It seems like the game has less people playing it after launch than it had during open beta. Of course this might be be anecdotal observation on my part on my server, Beholder, so I would like to know other people's point of view on the matter.
From the forums to zone chat, it just seems like people have given up on the game of late. My last guild crawled to a halt due to lack of activity and seeing more of the same in my present one.
Some authors of the more popular class guides don't even play the game anymore, read that streamers seem to have given up on the game as well.
Are we surprised? No, don't think so, given the state of the game. Is it too much to ask for the people that made this game to care for it? Too much to ask for class bug fixes? Too much to ask for acknowledgement on the various issues plaguing the game?
I am sorry if I came off like I was hating on the game, far from it, I think a lot of people, including me, want the game to succeed and live up to it's potential, build on it's core game play. I do not want the community to die around me. Whats an MMO without other people to game with.
P.S. Give us more frequent Dungeon Delve events Cryptic! Even half an hour ones at least, as long as we can relog for the DD chest.

I can feel the same way. In our guild, we have 500-600 level active members with 70% level 60 in a different time zones, so most of the time before, we have at very least 50 upto 200+ Online. Our members we're still in our guild, but we can't now even reach 20 online, most of them quit NW and transferred to other games.
Reason, VERY POOR End Game Content.
But, i'm still here because i'm enjoying ripping people apart in PVP.
There's three ways to do things, the right way, the wrong way and the way that I do it.
our guild folded..GG is such a huge disappointment and it was one of the ONLY things keeping a lot of guilds held together..Now that they see what it REALLY is?..they'll fold too.
Guess that miscommunication about classes and paragon trees and races and other things is finally catching up to them..thank God.
Well to be honest not many people who want a feeling of satisfaction from completing end-game content are are going to stay in a game where exploits did (and still do) rule. Not to mention what fun is there in facing end-game bosses whose only threat comes from them spewing tons of adds which you have to punt off edges?
Same here, my guild had 120 active players at start of OB. At this moment in time we are down to about 8 and a few of these have stated they are getting bored. The trouble is its not just with end game but also the lack of ideas for dungeon bosses, the majority of the time it is all about try to kill the boss and kite the endless mob spawns before for lower spec PCs game just becomes a lag fest or screen freezes. Other mechanics involve try to keep down the endless spawn of mobs and kill boss before they overwhelm you. I am sorry but how little thought did the devs actually bother to put into these encounters?? It seems their only answer to making things harder is increase number of boss aoe red circles and increase number and rate of spawning adds, then towards the last 25% of boss life spawn really big nasty adds plus loads more of the other adds, come on this is boring rubbish.
Sadly..I believe their business model is not to keep players past three months. I think their business model is designed to do exactly what it has done. Bring in noobs..dazzle them with shinies..they'll pay for Zen for approx 2 months til they find out like we did that this is a 3 month game and they'll move on to0 in order to make room for the next busload.

imo population decreased cuz of the following:
1. this gs thing .. (need cleric with 11k gs lol @ this)
2. disappointment of some players for having no new paragon, class, race
3. lastly theres nothing to do honestly
One contributing factor is summer. People like to go away for summers.
That doesn't mean there shouldn't be a great effort made on important things, you know like getting rid of EXPLOITS THAT DESTROY WHOLE DUNGEONS.
oh please... you know darn well that after summer people return to school or their children do and when this happens whatever they played during the summer they no longer have time for, summer should have ample players cause if they dwindle then that means when schools start there is going to be no one left

These are my exact thoughts. Sadly I was noobish and forked out about $60 on this game. I don't mind, as I got about 4-6 weeks joy from it. I would have spent the money on other stuff anyways.
Now its already uninstalled and I am back to another game, just troll forums from time to time to read the doom and gloom
I enjoyed levelling a lot, then its like hitting a brick wall of boredom at cap.
I log in once a night to run spellplague in hopes of getting the set piece I want and then one run in CN to see if i get something i may be able to sell.Nothing else.
For me and my guild (we are playing several games since years together, mostly rather long per game) Gauntlgrym was the "last hope" for NW for us. Sadly, it was totally disappointing. Only interesting part of those 1.5 hours are the 30min PvP.
other reasons:
- dungeons only worth every 6 hours (DD), otherwise almost nothing drops (CN final is an exception)
- only 5 person content aka dungeons/PvP, nothing for smaller/larger scales, nothing for solo
- no premade pvp queue not that fun to fight pugs that quit in like 8/10 cases within the first 100-200 points.
Well, pretty much the main reasons, which are already mentioned in here. In short: lack of end content. NW itself isn't bad but its "completed" to fast.. Even had the time here to get 4 lv60 chars all with good eq within almost no time.. nothing I usually do, but without that I'd have quitted already earlier though.

During EU primetime I sometime open up instance window and check how many players is in Protector's Enclave.
Start of the open beta it was 15 full instances, start of the live it was 18 full instances. One instance is 150 players.
People get bored very quickly these days, and they also have many more options to choose from. It's a common MMO problem, even for a behemoth like WoW. Grinding is not nearly as popular of an activity as it used to be, and it's no wonder. You can only do the same thing so many times, especially when you could be trying out different new things rather than repeating your actions 30 more times.
Right now Neverwinter doesn't have much of a longevity in it (limited PvP options, no ability to have more than one spec or respec for free, lazy design for most bosses which includes waves of adds spawning, events turning out to be a double-edged sword, etc.) and Cryptic has a lot of bug, balance, and content updates to do before it does.
Free to play means that people are even more likely to come and go as they please.
I'm new here. Really new. Just signed up yesterday, and rolled a cleric. Got interested in this game cuz I played NWN1 (didn't get to play 2 though) and loved it. I've played seceral MMORPGs before, most of which are F2P (in pfact, the only P2P I played was WoW, which I played up to the beginning of Cataclysm). And I like PVE more than PVP (I'm a lousy PVPer). Now, I think you'll agree with me that most of the F2P titles out there are PVP-centric, while their PVE content is basically a neverending, tedious grindfest. Of course, there are exceptions (Dragon Nest for example, has good PVE content). But most of them (things like RF Online, Rohan, etc.) fits into this category. I don't know whether any of you have played Rohan or RF, but let me tell you that those games will really test the limits of your patience.
So now my question goes to whoever it is who have played any of those grindfest-y games. Is Neverwinter's endgame content that bad? What about mid-game? Is it worth me investing my time to get there?
I noticed when I went into the city in all betas it was pretty full, open beta it was packed. After this last patch it was so empty I heard a <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> from an orc which was impossible before.
So now my question goes to whoever it is who have played any of those grindfest-y games. Is Neverwinter's endgame content that bad? What about mid-game? Is it worth me investing my time to get there?
Neverwinter's endgame is a buggy, exploitable, boring add-fest and if that is your main interest you should try somethign else.
Leveling is very fun but Devoted Clerics may have some issues. Still I leveled a DC to cap after the latest round of nerfs and while harder than any other class it is still doable. The Foundry is also great.
Basically if you like leveling this game is great, but if you prefer end-game stay far, far away (at least for the moment).

Leveling 1-60 is enjoyable. Hence, Im leveling my second character to 60.
End game PVE consists of the following: Running Tier 1 5man epic dungeons for Tier 1 loot, then running Tier 2 5man epic dungeons for Tier 2 loot, daily foundry quests for AD, daily skirmish for AD, daily dungeon for AD, creating foundry content, Gauntlgrym(when it comes back).
It is a grind for your gear, kind of..but what game doesn't have it? Honestly, since the dungeons are difficult, it makes it an enjoyable rewarding experience rather than the quick 20 minute dungeon runs of WoW or GW2 that reward <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>. Yes, you can be very unlucky in these epic dungeon runs and get only blues, and this is something I think they want to address. It is a dungeon grind for gear, but its not that bad. Once you get the set and look you want..yeah there isn't much to it I suppose. They aren't bringing in loads of money from box sales and subs, so you can't expect as much content as a WoW or something.

You're probably just a bad cleric, sorry. I havent changed my spec up at all and I heal just fine. I think the changes made the class better.

Did not except this many replies. So it seems its just not me, and in general people seem to have given up due to all the issues and the general lack of stuff to do in the game, especially between DDs. Due to this guilds have folded, and when they do, in my experience anyway, they kinda bring down the spirits of those that are still sticking around or want to.
I saw one response stating the his server, Mindflayer, seems more crowded. So if and when Cryptic decides to implement their one shard idea that they've had from the beginning, do you think that might be somewhat of a band aid solution to the population problem?

The grind that I was talking about are EXP grindfests. Grinding for rare/epic/good endgame gears are, like you said, present in every MMOs out there, be it paid or free (and not just MMORPGs, but MMOFPS too). And no, I won't complain about any lack of content. The game is barely a week old (not counting beta). To compare it to titles like WoW or EQ which have been around for almost a decade is simply unfair. So, even if it only have one endgame dungeon and no alternative, it would be fine for me, as long as the encounter itself is enjoyable. Contents will come with time. I'm not that hardcore of a player, so I won't level that fast anyway.
And after rereading our banter, you're right. I should've started my own thread. :P
EDIT: Or not. It seems that I'm still too new to create a thread. How long until that probation is lifted anyway?
I just logged to give my opinion on this. I played a **** tons for the first month then nothing at all after that. There's a few things that ****ed up the game.
1: No reset at the release (at first i was against it but it should have been the best decision)
2: Too much exploits for easy items ( ruined completely the economy)
3: I just logged in to see the price of items and it's ****ing amazing how low the best T2 sets is for CM
4: Too easy to get the best items in the game ( thx for the exploits)
Because of that, there is no point of playing a game like that when there is nothing to do anymore. Oh well it was a fun month.

Depends if there is any population problem. I see more people playing now, compared to open beta. Your friends not playing is just too small statistical sample.
