Hi all,

We've brought the Foundry Editor offline temporarily and will bring it back up as soon as possible. Foundry quests are still playable, however!

Please check back here for updates as soon as we have them!

Thank you! :)

Update 4:20 PDT: It's up!

I can't save my Foundry quest. How do I save my progress with it down? Should I leave the Foundry open?

And I think Cryptic decided to bring it down AFTER it was having problems, correct?

How about fixing the bug (reported over a week ago) whereby "3d Editor" mode carries over to live, and prevents skill use, npc and game-world interaction.

Not only can I not use the Foundry, I can't even play the game (not that the non-Foundry stuff is worth playing).

This really is getting to be a joke.

Well done, you've managed to make Star Wars Online look good.

I'm not. I can't save. I have no problem with being unable to work on the Foundry right now, but I can't save. I'd like an answer from Cryptic on what to do with my Foundry Editor open.

No, I meant Star Wars The Old Republic.

My guess is that your editor is not really online anymore, so even if they bring it back up your session won't save.

I couldn't even leave the editor normally, even though I pressed the 'leave and don't save' button - I had to crash the process from task manager.

Why wouldn't it just re-authenticate when the Foundry servers are back up? After all, you can dump your Internet connection, re-establish it, all while the Foundry editor is open and it will still be fine. The only way it wouldn't work is if it runs from a session as you mentioned, and that session is invalid when they restart servers.

I'd like an official response from Cryptic instead of community guesswork.

This is because the developers and publishers of said games are more concerned with profit over entertainment. SWG was better than SW:TOR even with the NGE. I like Neverwinter for the setting and the foundry, the rest is kind of lack luster to me. I have yet to run a quest that has me saying OMG that was great. On the foundry side of that I have played thru plenty of them that was like Okay that was a blast.

We should be able to get a temporary datafile of our work.So we can save it offline and update it, when the servers are online.
Its sad about the work, but its not the worlds end. Anyways, i cant wait untill its back up i want to finish my foundry quest hehe ;)

I completely understand needing to take the editor down for fixes and maintenance, but please...PLEASE do not take it down for several days again. The foundry is my favorite part of this game so far. :)

So I wanted to try out the Foundry, it then proceeded to crash my game and now I can't get the launcher to open fully...Not sure if this is an appropriate place to put this message, sorry in advance.

This is just speculation, of course, but I am betting on a login-timeout issue and that you might already be seen as 'offline' by servers, no matter if you can move your character ever 30 minutes (and if editor is down for longer then couple of hours you won't be able to stay online for couple of days anyways). I think the best we can count on is last auto-save before servers went fubar - but when Foundry went down last week, the couple of hours before crash were erased as well.

As I said, my speculation. I am as angry at this as you are - I have spent hours today on my new map, shifting stuff on Y axis more than 100 feet up and I really, REALLY don't want to loose the progress.

    Indeed.

They should let us import/export something like XML files of our work. I assume they're using a similar method to store our work, if not exactly that.

Nothing proprietary in the things we change for our Foundry quests. Just values of what pre-made resource to use, its properties of where it's placed, when it's enabled, our dialogs, etc.

Cryptic, these server issues are proof enough we need a way to locally save/backup our Foundry work.

Yup. I know that feeling. My quest is on a 2048x2048 map and the highest object I have is 800-something. I use a lot of height.

Auto save to where? The servers? They're down. They were down for saving long before they were taken offline. It doesn't store locally.

Last time foundry went down, the last couple of hours went 'poof' as well.

*sigh* Hearing that kind of things makes me wish that we could co-operate on adventures. :) I love writing dialogue and telling stories but my maps feel terribly lackluster.

Yep, same here. I've just build a lava dam with iron walkways hanging over it and if I have to rebuild it from scratch I will hurt someone.

    Agree entirely.

I have yet to see any "official" content that is as well crafted, balanced and as entertaining as the best the Foundry has to offer.

Bonderleaf's is in a different league to any of the official content.

And I am beginning to suspect that this is part of the reason the Foundry is constantly down, underperforming and bugged - if it was a tip-top tool set Foundry authors would be making the Devs look like amateurs.

That's what my guild is trying to do so far with a shared account for the Foundry. My specialization is in details and such with the 3D editing, etc. 1450 details in my first quest on one map, and most of those are 1 cost items to cram it all in, lol. I think it's about 1300 items so far.
