7/9/2013 EDIT: Prices are probably cheaper than when I first made this back in May. This is still the best "bang for your buck" set. I might updae this urther with better upgrades but for the time being, it is what it is.
Most players hit 60 and are looking at prices on the AH and wondering how the heck are they going to get BiS gear...
I want to make a realy quick guide for players on a budget that will enable you to get good gear that will hold its own in PVP for cheap. Think of this as the best bang for your buck items.
Helm - Shadow Wolf Headdress (5k AD as of 7/10/13 )
+225 to power/crit/armor pen.
Armor - Armor of Insanity (buy it for 2-5k AD) Same Price as of 7/10/13
+298 to power/crit/armor pen.
Arms - Icefall (20k ADish) Dropped WAY down to 2-3k AD as of 7/10/13
+ 255 pwr + 158 to arp/crit
Feet- Piercing Valiant Greaves (5-10k AD) Are these rare? Only 1 at AH for 1k AD - 7/10/13
+ 225 pwr +135 arp.
Shirt: Optional (not a big deal until offensive slot)
Belt: Any offensive slot with a combo of Arp/Crit/Pwr. Some people prefer HP too. Just get what fits in your budget. This will be a blue item.
Pants (Optional)
Neck: Minor-Excorcist's Necklace of Blessings (Higher the stats the better, can get for easily 5k-10 AD)
+ 129-133 Power/Crit/Arp
Rings: Ideal: Pyrotechnic Band (100k each -50k AD as of 7/10/13) Or Master Slaver's Ring (<50k each - 20-25k AD as of 7/10). If your on a REAL budget though: Wont check below prices, too low to matter.
Pale Bone Band (less than 10k each.) Signet of Unending Pain (less than 15k each.) Smiting Berseker Ring (less than 15k each) Or for Hp/Pwr/Arp (Nightwyrm Band for less than 2k each!!).
MainHand - Brutal Lizardfolk Scimitar (less than 10k AD) EDIT: Or Trollhamer easily sells for 10k AD (some complained that prices of lizard are up)
Off Hand - Shield of the Crusher (2.k AD) (This is a lvl 49 item) Confirmed as of 7/10 still a lvl 49 item and selling for 3k AD.
Offensive Enchants: Either Crit/ARP go with the highest you can afford. Most people can easily get rank 4s (2k each) or rank 5s (10k each). REmember that pwr doubles so 150 pwr is really 300.
EDIT: The effectiveness of ARP and any armor pen stats caps at 24% on bosses and most T1 mobs are in the high teens. Shoot for a respectible number here. If you have a stone or cat pet, you can get alot of ARP on your pet.
Defensive: Radiant Enchants
Utility Movement Speed. (Optional really makes almost no difference.)
If you can eventually get weapon/armor enchants.
Lesser Plague Fire (75k AD)
Lesser Soul Forged (200k AD) - a cheap alternative is Thunderhead (150k) or Negation (120k).
The BASE gear altogether should run you about: 68,000 AD (no enchants).
Obviously upgrading enchants/weap armor will cost you.
This is a basic guide to those GFs who just hit 60 who dont have gear. You can pick up garbage PVP gear for glory, but try and do a few dailies and you can start getting gear fast. While it is NOT BiS gear, it is decent gear and will allow you to start PVPing without getting completely dominated.
If I was given a fresh 60 with less than 50k AD to spend, this is what I would shoot for to start.
EDIT: ABILITIES
Someone asked about abilities.
PVP:
I run Lunging strike, Bull Rush and either knights challenge or frontline surge. It depends on the situation.
For Dailies I almsot always use Villians Mennace and Fighters recovery. I hardly use Indom since its merely for 1 wtf pwn on some1 but often I dont even need it and would like more benefit liek a heal or immune to CC.
PVE:
Lunging/Enforced Threat/Frontline Surge. Everything else the same.
For bosses I like slotting the "kick/DoT" ability (forget the name) Since its got amazing damage over time AND you can shield bash (debuff) (enforced threat (debuff) and Villians Mennace (buff you) and then proc it. I have had this thing when it crits do AMAZING damage that way. Just debuff/buff first then proc it. When you time right this will be often in a boss fight since ET gives you tons of AP.
Thanks for this. My GF's been parked at 60 and has all the Stalwart pieces except the helm but I haven't slotted much else yet. This'll help when I finally hop into end-game delving that I've been holding off on.

ayroux - For PvP this is a great set. I've sat down and went thru the AH and built pretty much the same set with Greater Tene. You'll reach optimal CRT/ArP/Power.
You'll lack your survival from Deflection but hit like a truck and 1-2 shot many players.

Yes I took that bait LOL, I actually thought he was serious since you can get stals at 49......
But I have seen many guides (Envy/Rokuthy/Uncag3d) who all share BiS gear setups that require some decent bankrolls. I wanted to give players who just hit 60 a way to get good gear for the price... I have to say I would run this if I started over. Currently running stalwarts cause I love the tankiness and HUGE pwr boost.

Any thoughts on the huge powerburst vs timeless crit in pvp? Or how they weigh out? Im debating whether i should spec
Into the extra 5 ac since it could possibly help in pvp im not sure though how much more tanky it could make me pvp wise as
I have not hit 60 yet but im getting close. Or if i should just spec for as much damage as possible with cd reductions?

Recovery is almost useless in PVP. My personal opinion is that timeless is not that great. I prefer Stalwarts or the gear posted above.
Do not buy the glory set, in fact there is lv50 greens from npc in market that actually are better for only a gold or two... :P
I bought glory set but changed everything out ~30 min later (had the greens before that) to some epic items (Envys old setup) that inklude spider helm, graywolf armor, icegauntlets, lizardfolk and so on from AH for... Not much at all.
Later I changed that for Stalwart Bulwark and other BiS items (will not change my Stalwart until T3 atleast, i love it).
I want to refresh this post as I personally met a lvl 60 GF in PVP who I rolled over who then asked me about my opinion about his char and how to perform better.
He was using (dont know why) 3 piece of the grand set and some off set pieces. I went and spent virtually nothing on the AH to gear him with the above recommended items and then started to PVP with him. I gave him the helm/chest/gloves/boots/rings/neck/weapon shown above with a couple rank 4 arp enchants. He then went out and bought enough to get rank 5 arp/crit enchants and is now approaching 2k arp, somewhere around 5k power and getting close to 2k crit. I probably spent less than 50k AD on him just to test this out.
Within a few PVP games, he was nicely geared (on a tight budget too!) and was able to put out VERY nice damage, he was literally BLOWN away at the difference and said it made ALL the difference in the world for him playing.
I also did this with another GF who had stalwarts but bad enchants, got him to swap out enchants for arp/tene and upgraded a few pieces TO arp/power/crit and he said before he was tied with a rogue in his guild after my advice (including skill rotation in PVE), was almost doubling the rogues DPS in his guild.
Not that I am good, since I stand on the shoulders of others (Rokuthy/uncag3d/Envy) however I want others to see this and know you can get a very good set up without blowing dough on Tene enchants OR BiS set pieces...
If you are <lvl 60 or you JUST hit 60, seriously consider this set up because it will get you far...

No Problem. The biggest thing will be now getting upgrades since it will take either all 4 timeless/stalwarts to really make a difference from a gear perspective.
Honestly probably the best places to start would be getting pyro rings/ a stone or cat/ and some good enchants. I personally wouldnt use lesser tene enchants but you can make 1 tene enchant and start upgrading that way...
Once geared enough maybe then look at getting a set but with new gear coming soon and new content in the "summer" new stuff will come out making everything obsolete.
What skills do you slot, and what's your opener/rotation like for PvP?
PVE:
Dailies: Recovery/Villians Menace
At Wills: Cleave/Tide of Iron
Encounter: Lunging/Frontline/Enforced
Passive: Ferocious/Combat Adv.
PVE Boss fights depend on each boss. Sometimes I add knights challenge and Knee Breaker. The goal is to have 3 plague fire stacks to reduce defence, then tide of iron, then knights challenge then villians menace then knee breaker and you will get REALLY nice ticks with that.
Other times I just grab as much threat as I can with mobs and will socket enhanced mark.
PVP:
I keep everything the same EXCEPT for encounters are:
Lunging/Bull/Knights(or frontline) depending on makeup.
I sometimes also grab Indom Str instead of Villians Menace but typically either am using recovery (SUPER OP! especially with Tene) or Villians is nice with a heavy CW match.
Ill use frontline when I can see they are focusing me pretty hard, typically makes KC useless. When 1v1 I will always use KC though, its just too OP.
My typical rotation 1v1 versus a CW would be something like: holding block as I get in range, meanwhile I am getting MMd which reduced block a little but grants stal stacks. Wait until they try and choke or pop an encounter (happens all the time I think they get sacred of my glowing sword) then I pop knights challenge, bull rush/lunge and cleave(if needed)
Other times in group play Ill ride in, cleave 2-3 times then KC and 2 shot (lets me build up GPF stacks + Tene procs)
I dont like to KC and waste encounters right off the bat since I dont have stal stacks OR GPF stacks and typically no tene procs either.
I can often 2 shot that way but have found I can 2 shot MORE often cleaving a few times. If I am LEADING and rushing INTO a bunch, I often shield up and let them hit me 3 times to get stal stacks, wait for an obvious encounter and THEN KC and lunge/bull rush followed with a threat lunge.
This isnt revolutionary or new news to anyone (probably). I dont take credit for this setup since I did not "figure it out" but did play around with a few things and like that the best.
I would say the best advice I typically give most GFs complaining about damage is arp is NEEDED for damage.
To GFs complaining about holding agro(shouldnt happen now but pre patch): you need to do more damage to get agro!
To Gfs complaining about PVP: gear properly with this guide and stack arp/crit.
Most Gfs out there think we are meant to play a "tank" class. Not so, we are just a "more tanky" dps class. There is NO benefit to running a tank currently. Unless content get ridiculously hard that players NEED a tank, I dont see that happening unless they buff GF defense a TON.
How good would this be for a fresh level 60 GF planning on doing PvE mainly? Also any other cheap weapon suggestion apart from Brutal Lizardfolk Scimitar since they are currently 100K on Dragon...

The T1 set weapons are very cheap. The KC, Valiant, etc are all under 10-15k each.

You can also get the troll hammer it has nice arp on it. On mindflayer they go for about 10k AD as well...
General set in my opinion is garbage, its really tanky but doesnt give much offense...
And this set up is great for pvp or pve... I would just socket different. You will want to get Dark enchants for ARP until you get around the 24% cap including your Dex stat... For PVE then you can either start stacking power or recovery... You can go with crit if youd like for pvp but it wont help much in PVE...

Thanks a lot
I will try to get some cheap stuff ready for when my current GWF hits cap.
Great list. I did the same thing when I hit 60. Searched the AH for the cheapest good stuff I could find. For arm/feet a cheaper option is Knight Captain 2 piece. The bonus is 400ArP which is nice.
Ayroux, do you have a guide anywhere? Both Rokuthy and Envy have stopped playing and I've seen you make knowledgeable posts in a lot of threads and I'd love to see your ideas all in one place.

I made a quick GWF Sent guide that is out there somewhere. I have to say I stand on their shoulders as I got most of my info from them. With the tene changes I am actually going to retool my GF for a slightly more PVE focus and can post an update once I get him where I want.
Currently am torn between Vorpal/plague fire though. Currently Vorpal doesnt work with tene enchants but since I am getting rid of them, I might go back to vorpal.
Typically in parties you will have a CW/rogue/gwf who have plague fire and its actually rare to be the only one with it now a days..

Yeah some people really like the set, and it can be an "upgrade" but you definitely pay for it over the items I listed above, and I would wager that if you were to spend that same AD you can get more bang for your buck with better enchants or a pet (pve purposes) or take that lesser to a regular plague fire etc...
I have the two piece in my bank for fun ill try it out, but I have to say about a month ago (as posted earlier) I literally met a guy in PVP who asked me for help, I met him after stomping all over his team and went on the AH and bought him about 50k AD worth of gear (the pieces in this guide). We then started PVPing and he kept up with my score in the game... He was literally blown away with the difference..
That said, in pvp and pve ARP is the best stat hands down, you want to get it very high before considering crit or power. In pvp recovery is garbage, but for PVE its pretty decent.

I needed something exactly like this, thank you.
What is BiS?
And... say I had 700k AD saved up, how much would your gear list change if I was ok with spending most of that?

BiS is Best in Slot, basically, err, the best item for that slot.
Wait for more experienced players but if you have that sort of money then I would still get the items listed here and run Tier 1/2 Dungeons to get better stuff, the reason being that you won't be able to get the best stuff for that amount of AD, and the items here are pretty good until then. The only changes woudl be to consider consider upgrading to a better weapon, and perhaps buy Gemmed Shirt and Pants as the last two are BiS and are always useful.
Most players hit 60 and are looking at prices on the AH and wondering how the heck are they going to get BiS gear...
I want to make a realy quick guide for players on a budget that will enable you to get good gear that will hold its own in PVP for cheap. Think of this as the best bang for your buck items.
Helm - Shadow Wolf Headdress (buy it for 1k AD)
+225 to power/crit/armor pen.

Shirt: Optional (not a big deal until offensive slot)
Belt: Any offensive slot with a combo of Arp/Crit/Pwr. Some people prefer HP too. Just get what fits in your budget. This will be a blue item.
