Automatic Chat Ban for helping new players

So on Dragon server at the moment there are a bunch of people trying to exploit the new players who don't know how to redeem Idols for AD. They are trying to get them to exchange their 40k AD Idols for 31-33k AD Keys.

I started posting messages to Zone explaining to the new players that they should hand in the Idols to Rhixx to get 40k AD and then if they want a key exchange some AD for Zen and they would save themselves around 8k AD at current exchange rates.

This upset a LOT of scammers, so they decided to all report me for spam so I would get automatically chat banned so they could continue to exploit new players.

The automatic chat ban after 20 reports needs to be fixed, it is completely abused at the moment by those who want to prevent someone speaking in Zone (whether or not they are guilty of spam). Assisting new players and telling them where they can hand in their Idols for significantly more value than getting a single key, is certainly NOT spam, but until Cryptic do something about the automatic chat bans, exploiters will continue to game the system to their advantage and to the disadvantage of new players who know no better. This is going to drive new players away from the game.

Cryptic are cold calculating and concerned with profit. Fixing the chat system might cost something, or just be a hassle for them. STP players complained forever and Cryptic ignores it, they do not care if there is no effect to the bottom line. It's F2P, and PW.

The whole reason they have it is to automate moderating and save money. Sure, another effect is gold spammers get banned, along with everyone else caught in the dragnet of cheap automated chat moderation.

If you can frame the argument in such a way that it would affect profits, or especially the Whales, then Cryptic's ears will perk up.

Sorry to hear this, but sadly this system seems almost designed to be exploited by the worst elements.

If you make a ticket there is a (slight) chance that Cryptic will actually review this and possibly deal with the offenders.

Well people scamming new players does effect profits because it makes people leave the game due to being fed up of getting scammed.

As for submitting a ticket, I have submitted 3 tickets so far, 2 of them related to a billing issue, they have answered exactly 0 of them, in the last 3 weeks. So I have absolutely no illusion they will respond to a "Chat Ban" ticket if they can't even be bothered to respond to billing tickets.

Needless to say, this "Whale" won't be swimming in their tank anymore.

Kvetching about the state of thing and yelling "whale" seems a bit hypocritical coming from a HoN purchaser.

Hypocritical, maybe, but it doesn't mean it's not true....

You don't even have to say anything to get chat banned, they can just exploit the /ignore_spammer command across multiple accounts and you can get "chat" banned without ever saying anything because you undercut some exploiter on the AH or pissed them off for some other reason.

I'm not even sure you need to be logged in.

Edit: welcome to their list by the way, expect to get chat banned repeatedly at odd times without even saying anything

one way this effects profits is

1 player running 1 account and only 1 account, is more likely to buy for that 1 account than someone that's running 1 account +19 alt accounts, to gain free invokes/ proff assignments, and.. autoban people in chat that try to keep them from their scam targets.

Being tricked and scammed tends to make new players quit sooner, and some of them may have been potential customers. People being muted while simply being afk multiple times may make some quit as well due to the fact being muted prevents use of all chats. It is a flawed system and improving it will just make the game better overall which in turn brings more people, which means more money. I also doubt it takes much resource to make a minor change to the system.

Hey, I'm in agreement with the lot of you, I'm just saying Cryptic only fix exploits that cost them money immediately, anything else just has to wait and fester for months.

They have no CS, no proper way to report, no response if you do manage to contact them. They let the worst elements run the chat for them because it is free and they simply do not care. years of history in their games have proved this.

Here's a thread where you can post suggestions on how to improve the chat ban system. Chip in your constructive feedback. :)

This system is just absolutely ridiculous... ppl can just abuse it for personal vendetas or smthing, Making innocent ppl get silence for 24. BESIDES, if u want the 24 ( cryptic) and ur rly ONLY concerned with spamm, then make it 24 hours ZONE only, making it abrange team and guild chat is just plain dumb, not to mention it completely disrupts gameplay... but hey, this is just my opinion.
