Well in internet lingo the number 5 is a replacement for the letter "S." So 55 would be "SS," which could be seen as a reference to the HAMSTER secret police largely responsible for rounding up the Jews for execution during WWII.

That's my guess for why it is censored.

"$$" will lock your chat and not display anything you type after it. Even with the filter off. I like to use it to say lots of cash as it's quicker... but now I have to just use $ and it's irritating :p

$$ is used as a break between commands in binds/macros, so the game tries to parse anything after that as a new command as opposed to a continuation of your local/zone chat.

That's got to be the most HAMSTER thing I've ever heard.
At the risk of feeding a troll. You may find it HAMSTER, but there are a great number of people around the world that are still sensitive to the events of that time period. In some counties there are laws with stiff penalties, up to and including jail time, for certain actions that could be seen as supportive of the Third Reich era. In some forums "88" is banned as well, because of it's connection to National Socialism.

Fortunately, a few countries still have freedom of speech and expression and all that stuff.

In these countries, mostly in the EU, freedom of speech exists, however they put this on the same level as yelling "Fire" in a crowded theatre, which despite the American 1st amendment is illegal.

And sadly most people in those countries are way too ignorant to comprehend what that means so they use it in situations where it isn't even applicable.

They are too ready to pounce on any perceived PC infraction. Plus, it's the internet, HAMSTER must be brought into it if possible, along with all the propaganda associated with them.

55 could be due to SS, but then again, is SS censored as a bad word? SS can stand for alot of things, like Screenshot and so on. Also, SS wasnt the secret police, gestapo was. SS was just an elite branch within the wehrmacht, Sturmsoldaten i.e storm troopers.

88 and 18 however can be sensitive, since they are commonly used by neonazi movements. 88 Stands for HH which means Heil Hitler, whle 18 stands for AH i.e Adolf Hitler.

There is however no rational thought behind banning either of the above letter shortcombinations. Alone they are just numbers. Like "wts x for 88/55g" or "what folder are my SS saved to in this game?".

It feels like this is another quarky situation where european political correctness takes a turn for the worse.

Im assuming here that you think I mean it applies to forums and video games? If so, no im not way too ignorant to think it applies to games and forums. Poster above me said something about COUNTRIES and thats what I was responding to.

Or the more common Spacesquid. Though I heard they crashed in Azeroth a few years ago.

This kinda reminds me of when I used to play the MMO Grand Fantasia, during the holidays you could get a "Sexy Santa Costume" for female toons and that's literaly what the item was called Sexy Santa Costume, thing is the word Sexy was censored by the game so you ended up seeing people saying WTB "**** Santa Costume" and the like in the World chat, good times :p

Did not know that. Makes sense too. One would think not having a / command in the chat box it wouldn't use special commands for macros. Eh oh well, I don't know 100% of the game so there's probably something where it's used in that manner.

The whole sensoring theory is moronic and accomplishes nothing but ppl feeling they are entitled to something for nothing because someone may have said something one time (maybe) that could have possibly been construed in a negative or derogatory way-this coming from someone of Jewish decent. Thank you.

Bunch of 88/18/55 loving HAMSTER$hats. *rolls eyes*

Want weird censorship. White Knight Chronicles censors words that start with "con". And to make it more amusing they have a set of pre-made messages and one is "congrats" that gets censored when you use it.

The most obvious answer is to keep people from typing A55 or A$$ in chat, even if they are referring to a donkey.

Ignorance is hard enough to tolerate, but insensitivity will get a thread closed, and accounts banned. Let's show some class.

If you think that what you are about to post is insulting, don't post it.
