Its these little things that really make PWE seem slimy. The overt and intentional tweeks put in the game to steer people to spending more cash....

Well HAMSTER, they're trying to get people to pay cash for their "free" to play game? Those nefarious buggers - the audacity!

Seriously, these messages rarely come more than once every few minutes. They pop up, and are gone within a few seconds. If this is the type of stuff they do to keep me from paying a monthly fee in this game I'm *just* fine with that and I think people are making mountains out of mole hills.

I don't think these messages are too bad though it would be nice to just have it display in the chat window instead of across your entire screen. Then they can still advertise though be less in your face about it.

They won't EVER get rid of this. All you need to do is log into STO and you get with the same messages only its about Tal Shiar Destroyers and Jem'Hadar Escorts.
You can turn off the spam messages in STO (click the triangle at the bottom right of the minimap - the option is under notifications).

i don't notice it anymore. the only time i do see it really is in a dungeon sometimes, and the only one i have actually seen was someone who got it from a guildie in a giveaway on a stream.

I'm much more distracted by the system covering an important bit of my screen telling me what's in a loot bag I'm standing on while a dozen bad guys are trying to hack me to death. I'd rather they turned this off in combat than the nightmare notification, I tune that out.

It's Casino tactics. Buzzers and lights going on make people believe that they too can win.

Sounds like alot of people here dont have their Heavy Inferno Nightmare yet ;p Just kidding, although I find the need or greed window much more frustrating. Especially when you just shift3 to get ot out of you face and then its like "hey buddy!!! You didnt win!!!". GTFO of my face loot window!!!

This message is terribly annoying, and you can only get rid of it by turning off system announcements, which is very much throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It's only purpose is bragging rights, but there are so many of them out there, it's nothing to boast of. In fact, I'm much tempted if I ever do get one not to use it just so I can be different.

I'd love to - this as well as the "buy rez scrolls" popup are my two biggest gripes with the game's monetization.

At the very least, turn it off in dungeons and just display in public areas.

I agree; not only do I want this message to go, but I felt from the very beginning (and feel the same way even after having bought a few keys) that the Nightmare Boxes are a shameful idea.

It is a bold-faced exploitation of basic human psychology. They know VERY WELL that throwing these boxes in our face (and originally not even allowing us to discard them!) would strongly compel people to spend money they wouldn't otherwise have spent.

I do not mind at all the micro-transactions in this game; I can even forgive a little bit of P2W, but I cannot forgive this disgusting gambling temptation. If they want our money, the onus should be on them to make a legitimately attractive business model. Offer us something we are willing to spend a reasonable amount of money on via the shop. But to exploit the obsessive nature known to exist in many gamers is really quite appalling. I hope these boxes will be phased out, never to return, but I can already see the next "season" of boxes offering a brand new rare mount on the horizon, that a great many people will feel compelled to roll the dice on.

Does anyone consider me to be completely misunderstanding the intention behind these boxes, or consider my aversion to them to be an over-reaction?

It is intended to remind you that Neverwinter has a Zen Market and Nightmare Lock Boxes. You can buy Zen either with real money or with Astral Diamonds off the exchange market.

I wouldn't mind, but the darn lockboxes take up a slot in my inventory. :(

That said, I played ME3 MP, where every single unlockable was from RNG boxes.

They are discardable so it's not a huge deal.

I obviously don't like the gambling boxes, but I think i'd mind much less if there weren't SO VERY MANY of them. The drops should be far rarer. Initially I was picking up dozens in a single play.

They are now, yes. They initially weren't.

One way to improve it a bit - hit Escape, select modify UI, and drag that message box out of the center of your screen. It's much less obtrusive when it's in the corner under your portrait.

You, my friend, have just won thebriman's gold star helpfulness award! Thank you!

Hit Escape. Rearrange HUD. Resize and move the "Normal Notifications" to a less obtrusive place. Just over the top of the chat box or right under the menu at the top of the screen are both good places to tuck it away. I hardly ever notice it now. Good luck!
