With a lot of positioning, triggers, timers, and dialogue prompts. I've managed to pull off animated cutscenes in dialogue and animated action scenes. I can't wait to show you guys!
Nothing more to add to this tease, I just wanted to tell someone.
I must admit I have no idea how that could be pulled off, some I'm curious to hear what method was used.

It turned out far better when put together, than I imagined in my mind when I was brainstorming it.

What kind of timer did you use? I'd kill for some kind of timer but haven't stumbled across anything like that. Very near the top of my Foundry wishlist is a way to time events (play FX for 2 seconds, have this event occur after 3 minutes, etc). Am I missing something?
I'm 90% done with my first quest and have put in dozens of hours and got a few interesting set pieces that are semi-cut-scenes, so color me extremely curious!

I contemplated trying to make something like this but the work involved appeared FAR too tedious for me
Congratulations! Hard work really pays off in Foundry quest - you can tell which authors spent a long time polishing theirs.

It took a long time researching the technique, the setup isn't really that long. Once you see it, it will be so obvious, everyone will be doing it. Like difficulty sliders.
And I thought building two entirely different types of rooms on top of each other and hiding one or the other was tedious...
But at least I posted a video teaser of it!
so... pictures or it didn't happen.
But I will ahead and guess that it involves dialogue with am invisible object, and lots of appear/disappear patrols to make NPC's move, and perhaps some area markers? Close? cause that is how I was thinking of doing it.

This is something i have been wanting to tackle for awhile now but wasn't able to since I used up all my npc's and encounters, but in my next quest I'll have a lot more control over the numbers so this is something i'll be working on.

I'll be posting this either tonight or early in the morning. Chapter 2, with 1 animated cutscene, the others will have to be added later.

I animated a mine cart down a track but it was less cool than I thought it would be... So I can't wait to see what you've got!

Thank you so much! The wait for act2 was getting unbearable, I was actually starting to worry you had left the game or something.

Still a couple of days left before I can publish it, but here is a video of the cutscene I shot while in the editor. http://www.twitch.tv/zovya/b/411439319

Pretty cool, one thing that broke my immersion though was the guard not noticing Kirshana when she was right in front of him doing the "lockpick/examine" motion.... btw looked kinda naughty or maybe that's just my wild imagination lol. (lock picking/examining right near his crotch....)
Maybe if the player and Krishana were in cells opposite each other, they talk from across the way (you can use like an invisible wall to start the dialogue or something) then the guard walks in between them and then you distract him while Kirshana steals his keys from behind him.
(Just offering some advice, still looks great though)

I agree it looks great. The naughty comment, I also saw what you saw and was unsure whether she was picking the lock or ... .
Beware, when you first publish it, your cut scene may stop working. I added a cut scene to a quest of mine, that worked wonderfully in the Foundry, but failed when I published.
After tons of debugging, I found doing two things helped:
1. Drop the mobs from slightly above the ground. This ensures they don't fall through and miss the trap entirely
2. Separate the traps by invisible walls. I found that my timer mobs would all congregate in one spot, even though they were set to be "No Wander"
If you're interested, I finally got mine working.

Oops, you used a different technique. I remember you participated in that other post about cut scenes. You may not have the same problems I did if you didn't use the trap technique.

This is my method for making timers:
