I think it's to punish gold sellers!

Think about it. You can't trade AD or Zen! If you wanna do it, you gotta go through the AH and you lose a % of AD in the process! Then you convert AD to Zen.

The only currency you can trade between players is Gold and what does gold get you? Potions, Injury Kits, some mounts, some pets. That's it.

Yes it's true that some people are trying to sell Gold for other things, but its not working. I'll see the same people spamming that they will trade Gold for Enchanted Keys, or people trying to sell BOE gear for gold, but I doubt they sell, and if they do, you were probably stuck selling it for hours. How boring is that? :)

In the end, if you want to "Pay to Win", Cryptic is getting all the money to make that happen! Not 3rd party webpages!!! There is the option to do it, but 99% of the time those gold selling ads are just hack sites to infect you with keylogger viruses, and if you do find a legit site, there's also chances they will just steal your credit card# or not even give you the gold your purchased! But let's pretend you are part of the 1% that did find a legit site who did give you gold for $$$, then what? You got gold and all the best items are bought with AD and Zen! Have fun spamming Zone chat to convert your gold into something you need! You'll be there for ages!

Well i guess the key thing to note in your "reasoning" is that's your opinion, and nobody gives a **** about your opinion.

Just like no one gives a *** about your opinion either loud mouth. How about try respecting other peoples comments and being civil about it?? or maybe you grew up in a barn?

Let me answer your question with a question. Why the f does it matter?

It matters because it's annoying as hell. There are actually more than 3 currencies in the game. There are also the celestial and ardent coints as well as glory. It's annoying and I too would like to know why we got saddled with this BS.

Because they all have clear and distinct purposes.

Ardents are "Veteran rewards", like a lot of Subscription games give out.

Celestials are continuous play rewards. They designed to keep people engaged on a daily basis.

ETAETA: in fact I nearly never use gold except for kits and up to level 40 never had to buy any potion. I suppose you need potion to raid and thus gold but I see no other usage.

I bought Profession stuff (assets, materials); as a matter of fact, most of my earned gold was spent on those (1 gold for a worn chisel or whatever).

You must be low level. You only have to spend for assets once, and materials are dirt cheap.

Over time, most of your expenditures will be potions and injury kits.

Economy experiment..zen = RL gold. AD= printed currency or stocks. In game "gold, coppers" is a controlled environment.

    Hoard zen I guess..;);)

To my eyes AD are a pointless fabrication.
Why not just have Zen and in game gold and forget AD completely?

To differentiate with other PWE games, for example Raiderz. If all currencies of all PWE games have the same name, it wouldn't sound "nice".

AKA "I like to hear myself talk, I like to speak in my clever british accent. I frequently smell my own farts and feel sophisticated when I argue over semantics and other petty things. Mahaha."

It was a valid question and worthy of discussion. Whether or not there is a right or wrong answer is irrelevant.

Your posts bring ZERO value to the discussion. Its a **** shame PW doesn't take a more active role in banning trolls like you. You are a prime example of the crappy attitude that has made MMO's less and less of a fun community.

One advantage of AD is that it allows the limitation of inflation. Since no more than 24k AD can be created per day per person inflation will not be as bad as in most games (unless of course there are exploits that create AD out of nowhere or they sell founder packs that create AD out of nowhere). But barring those exceptions inflation is limited (and as long as those exceptions eventually go away inflation is limited).

Why do so many companies brand their own digital currency instead of just letting you buy gold or actual items for cash? Probably some negative stigma.

Somewhat because of negative stigma, but also as a marketing tool. Having their own in-game currency that's traded for real-world currency helps to divorce the player a little more from how much they're spending. You don't think about it as much when you're spending 4000 ZEN for a pretend bear as when you're spending $40. It also allows them to set a minimum on how much you can spend ($5 in this case, since IIRC 500 ZEN is the lowest amount you can buy).

It is rare, but Anet let you do this in Guildwars 2. They were even smart enough to hire a full time economist to manage the AH, what they call the black lion trading company.

If I could marry the gameplay and lore of NWO with the way Anet manages GW2 I'd be in heaven! :)
