While I agree...I must say that I have hated this since 2nd edition. This insistence to use the feminine because it is chauvinistic to use the masculine is boggling. I guess it is because guys dont really care about grammar. The "proper" solution would be to use gender neutral terms, Their, them, they, the user, what ever.
But at this point it is akin to complaining about the wart on a orc's HAMSTER detracting from it's(opps, I mean her) looks.
Masculine is the plural and generic in english. We have a cult of PC folks that would change it (I really do not care) but her is wrong, his is correct (generic form), his or hers is PC (and correct by virtue of peer pressure), its probably works here as the races are possibly nonhuman. Getting bent out over such things is silly --- there are far too many important things to worry about fixing in this game --- but if they do change it, my vote is for 'its'.

Its? The Guardian Fighter will hold up "its" shield?
lolno.
To be honest, I have never given it much thought, but this use of the female pronoun always reminds me of fantasy and RPGs. I like it. In fact, I never thought anything was wrong upon reading this "her", it just felt... familiar.

There is nothing wrong with using "her", just fat butthurt virgins get mad at any mention of a female doing something

The preferred gender-neutral pronoun is dependent on geography, institution and author. The masculine pronoun in a gender-neutral context has been controversial since 1850 or so. There is, in fact, no one correct form and the masculine version seems to be used less and less. Switching back and forth between feminine and masculine forms is fairly commom in modern literature. Alternatives like "s/he" or "his/her" are usually ugly or off-sounding.
"Its" is, however, incorrect in this case (all races in Neverwinter have genders), as is the frequently used "their" (unless it is plural, of course). There have been various attempts to create a new pronoun, like "thon" ("that one"), which was even in some dictionaries for a while, but nothing has really broken through.
This always seems to be a big deal in English for some reason, really ridiculous. When I was learning Italian, everything seemed to embrace gender-specific descriptions (I expect same is true in most Latin-based language). Most words had masculine and feminine forms. Although I admit, language was never my forte, more of a math and science geek.
English is sometimes a very illogical form of communication. When speaking in Italian, I had to change the way I thought of things sometimes. For example, if you told someone you were going to "take" a shower in Italian, people would look at you like you're nuts. You would change that to "make".

Um, perhaps one little bit too far...
But I couldn't have said it better myself.
