I remember the cleavage window for clerics. after a few post on the beta forums, it was closed up. I can see both sides of the sex sells (look at the cleric image for NW game ). Just give people an option to have windows/middrift or not.

    here's Plate cleavage window: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?75151-Please-can-you-remove-the-quot-cleavage-window-quot-on-female-plate-armour

I would love to see a non-stat-giving "overcoat" slot added to all characters. This would be sold via gold and AD vendors, as well as being able to be made by leatherworkers and tailors. It would simple be a visual piece that covers all normal gear - think like a cloak or longcoat. It could display guild colors or otherwise just give you a more conservative appearance if desired.

The word you are looking for is Tabard. And it would be an awesome addition.

Edited to add: This suggestion actually should be suggested more. Both CO and STO support guilds by giving guild members access to an additional costume slot. With the intention having a slot to make a conforming or matching guild costume. There is nothing like that here. No way to display your colors or standard. Looking back on it, it seems a disappointing oversight.

    Women Fighters in Reasonable Armor

Sorry but thats not reasonable at all, no round figures and one is wearing a cape so long which would make her slip and fall over in battle.
See, less cloth can be good, less options in different clothes not.

Present you Kyraa, relaxing in casual gear :

My bad, I didn't realize one image with a cape touching the floor invalidated all twenty-five pages. I'm also not sure what you mean by "round figures", but there are plenty of different body types represented. Check out pages eight, nine, seventeen, nineteen and various others if you're looking for examples on heavy-set physiques.

I'm also not quite sure what bearing your screenshot of "casual" courtesan wear has on my comment about armor.

It actually should come down to what the person playing the female character wants the character to wear, and not what lonely perverts want the character to wear. =)

Cloth armor doesn't matter since it's cloth, it's not going to protect anything. My Cleric and Guardian seem to be pretty covered up, too covered up for my tastes and I'm a straight female. Just because I'm married doesn't mean I want to look matronly.

That said, doesn't bother me all that much for now. A few years down the road, an expansion that has more fashionable gear would be much appreciated. But for now I'd just like to see more PVP content.

This is actually pretty funny. And as an older female gamer, I agree. I usually try to pick monster races so I don't have to deal with it.

I don't mind if the sexy options are there, just give us more options. More is always better than less. As a CW, i've seen only one piece of armor that doesn't have a bare midriff (and that was a 2mil vanity piece), but still had the "window". I so want layered robes, it just fits my image i have of my wizard, but nothing even comes close.

STO has so many options, and i hope that at least down the road this gets close to that.

To be fair, I generally also find the "realistic" male armor in games to be boring as well. Haven't seen everything in those games, but even if the gameplay didn't turn me away, the armor designs in the Souls games & Dragon's Dogma would have. The whole dull/grey/brown/"realistic" thing that's a trend in modern gaming is just..... bleh. Really, I don't care all that much about "practical" - I've got enough suspension of disbelief to allow for interesting visuals.

(Not to say that it can't be taken too far.... /glances at some of the crimes against art perpetrated by the WoW raid-armor design team )

Yes... more variety is needed. Both in terms of body customisation and armor. This includes everything from conservative and highly practical outfits, right through to fantastical and/or sexualised and highly impractical-looking outfits that appropriately reflect our characters' diverse personalities.

well maybe if you didn't take off your shirt and pants you wouldn't have to deal with that? Leave those on and none of the outfits have baring mid drift.

    Late to the thread, but...

assuming folks are replacing their original 'peasant' shirt (player crafted shirts and pants give stat boosts).

    You get progression like this.

From left to right. Just shirt and pants. Orc skinned armor. Trickster rogue +4 skinned armor. Note the bare midriff and cleavage all the way through. (Not that I mind, if you are distracted by that, as a rogue I know you won't notice the dagger in your kidney!)

    midriff.jpg

(also, with a little creativity, note that you can get a very distinctive look)

    Yes this is not fair.

Just because I'm a different sex doesn't mean I should have to wear different armor!

i want to show my midriff too!

    ukkjgiud.png

I hear you OP. I'm always on the losing side of this argument.

    I prefer realism.

I want just straight-up functional looking armor.

Embellish it with etchings and sashes as you choose.

But as soon as I look at my character and think "Wow, those giant shoulder spikes would stab me in the head every time I raised my arms!" or "That sword must weigh more than my character!" then you lost me.

For female armor, like you OP, it's about coverage. If you look at Linothorax or other armors you see that they often have scales or other plating around the waist because that's where the oozy parts are!
I know a bronze bikini bottom and boots looks hot but you left that big femoral artery exposed.

Yes, yes. It's just a game but, like 'it's just a movie', that never makes it seem better for me. Maybe I'm OCD about this.

Others would call what I prefer boring.

    Side note -

I pulled a helm yesterday for a new dwarf GF.

I swear to you - it's just a big plate across the front of your face with a big center hole cut for your nose to poke through.
Seriously, you're just a big nose walking around.

Dafuq? Makes no sense. (orange you glad I didn't say 'scents')

I can't figure out how to screen shot or I'd take a selfie.

IMO If you wouldn't wear it in combat why dress your character with it.

Print Screen will take a screenie, just rotate your camera to the right direction. It hides the UI by default, and the shots are stored in .../neverwinter/live/screenshots.

(I usually just turn visuals off on helmets, a habit I learned from long years of MMO playing.)

    Unfortunately 'realism' clashes with 'fantasy'.

'Realism' would mean that your average character would be running around in dented, mismatched and rusty bits of armor scavenged from the battlefield.

'Realism' would mean that after a fight, you would have to hand your armor over to a smith for repair, which could take days (or longer).

'Realism' would mean that you can't carry five horses, six sets of armor and hundreds of glass bottles of liquid around with you.

'Realism' would mean that folks in chain armor would have little to no protection against piercing or crushing weapons and arrows would go straight through them.

'Realism' would mean that for every hour 'adventuring' you would be spending days preparing and possibly weeks recovering.

'Realism' would mean that every wound, no matter how small, could be potentially fatal (tetanus, septicemia, peritonitis etc).

'Realism' would mean permanently losing body parts (fingers, toes, eyes, arms, legs).

Because I've always enjoyed the fantasy entertainment genre for just that - entertainment and fun?

I know that spying isn't like in James Bond or Alias, I know that Xena defies both physics & history at the drop of a hat, and that inertia & force transfer means that Tony Stark should have broken limbs/etc all over the place with all the hits he takes even with that fancy armor of his.

But it's fun. And it doesn't bother me, because I can suspend disbelief for the sake of entertainment. :)

edit: I have enough boring realism out in the real world. I play these games/read these books/watch these movies to escape that. :D

Realism doesn't have to be boring. Non-realistic gear takes me out of the immersion. It's all just really a matter of taste.

I had the choice between playing as a male with armor made to make the male look strong, or I could play as a female wearing armor made to make the female look sexually appealing.

If I'm spending my time killing monsters, why on earth would I want sexually appealing? I want to look like a HAMSTER. And if I DID want sexy, why can't I have a sexually appealing male character as well? Seems like it's only fair to either make both genders HAMSTER, or both genders sexually appealing. They chose to make males HAMSTER and females sexually appealing. Which is just not okay.

Part of it may be that I don't believe in this "immersion" thing that people keep throwing around on game forums. Especially in an MMO...... considering that the "ruins mah Immurshuns!" complaints I see on the Skyrim forums talk about things like the game daring to intrude on your screen with the barest of UI, or a brief twitch out of 1st person view, as utterly destructive to "immersion" - I can't imagine that anyone could be "immersed" (if that's even a thing) in an MMO with the chat box spewing tripe at a furious rate, dozens of inanely-named players jumping all around you, and UI covering half the screen. /shrug

Neverwinter has fairly conservative armor for PCs. The armor classes all are fully covered with heavy armor, and the widely used man-at-arms and cleric companions are fully covered. (The dog companion is naked but I don't think that bothers most people.)

Also, Neverwinter gave everyone peasant clothes. Those have no sex appeal, and players can wear them to be fully covered. There doesn't seem to be much of a problem. It's like the OP wanted to complain and didn't see that Neverwinter makes it easy to dress conservatively and have conservatively dressed companions.
What you think you said: Females have the option to wear non-revealing clothes because non-revealing clothes were given to you at the start of the game.
What you actually said: Females can choose to wear peasant armor with low stats if they want to cover themselves.

This topic comes up in every single MMO and I really don't understand why. The only thing I can think of is that there will always be a certain percentage of the world's population that wants to keep us in burkas (for those who dont know, that's how men keep their women covered from head to toe in the middle east).

I don't see the fashions in NWO as "HAMSTER" at all. As a matter of fact, me and my friends where just talking about how conservative the clothes in NWO are, especially compared to other MMOs. Listen, most of us like to look nice when playing these games. If not for the "somewhat" appealing fashions in MMORPGs we probably wouldn't be playing them at all. It sort of like the devs know this so they combine the game with a little bit of dress up barbie for us.

Honestly, if you find an issue with it you can always just play with a male avie and not have to bother with it. Just please stop trying to regulate everything we wear just bcause you find it sexual. I get enough regulating about what I wear in RL from my dad and brothers. It would be nice if I didn't have to worry about that here as well.
Oh, I see what you did there. First you took your own experience of males (trying to regulate the way you dressed) and applied it to all the males arguing against female avatars in games wearing armor that covers nothing. Then you took the opinions of you and your friends and applied them to the entirety of the female gender. While I'm sure there are many who agree with you, that doesn't make the OP's argument any less valid: you should be able to choose whether or not to dress like that.

That, and you just countered an argument for being able to choose how to present yourself with a tirade about why it's bad that you can't do so IRL.
