Some people seem to be missing the point entirely.
It's not that sex sells, or that some people are prudes, or that people are going to quit the game because some cloth armor shows skin (lolwhat where did that come from.)

Somebody said to give an option for bouncing HAMSTER and more naked clothes.
Honestly, I'm fine with that.
As long as we get *options*. Which was the whole point of the whole thread. Apparently reading comprehension is hard, and hyperboles are taken literally. In fact I'll go edit my original post.

Side note: Thanks for telling me that mail/plate armor uses get full armor, I should clarify that in my post.

Even Blizzard tried "censoring" the WoW and look what happened, ever since transmogs were added to WoW a few years ago, all the armorkini set prices on the AH have risen to ridiculous prices! Go to any WoW AH and search for armor chest and leg pieces with the names: jade, golden, bloodfist, revenant, and many more and they are always 100g to 5000g!!!

People are buying these bikini armor sets because they are BIKINI ARMOR SETS!!!
Hell, I'd buy bikini armor sets in this game too if I could transmog the appearance with full stats, but there seem to be a bunch of limitations on it. It's fun occasionally to strut your stuff, but there's not really an option to do so in the game right now either. The drab brown underwear isn't exactly what I'd consider sexy, so that doesn't really work for me.

I agree the beggers clothes don't exactly scream sexy lol.

And yes we need more options to customize please.

Think of it as a potential $ maker idea.

Hooker clothing? A new way to RP?
/optimism off
You should make different looking items some revealing, some not. that will make RP better and people wont open threads like this.

Agreed, and as a sidenote can the females get bigger HAMSTER too ? Preferably with a bounce animation. Thanks.

LOL. I find it disturbing enough already that some guys play with a girl char that has a 'sexy' outfit.

@Tori: Lmao nice pic XD

Yep, hopefully we'll get some diverse item sets in the game.

What? I thought people liked sexy armor? I am confused...

I saw this picture on facebook a while back. IMHO it is a shining example of the double standard within MMO's heh.

Not that media has always been completely one sided... Google "Zardoz" some time. Now that is something that can not be unseen! Poor, poor Sean Connery.

Definitely agree there needs to be more clothing/armour options.

There were so many awesome examples and inspirations that Cryptic could have taken from Bioware/Fanbase for NWN 1 (I really miss the range of armour/clothing and modding ability from there). Instead they opted for something that at times I feel resembles a "WoW Lite" game.

It's popular nowadays to decry the previous four decades of fantasy-genre art and champion "realistic" armor. /shrug

---

Anyway, I made a new CW.... and, ok, I can see that even the beginner default shirt is that cutoff thing. I could have sworn it was a full length (couldn't remember, I got rid of mine as soon as I got torso armor.)

Which reminds me.... why the heck are all the crafted shirts & pants identical? You'd think with all those different craftable shirts, there would be at least a couple of different models to choose from for each class. Sure, you can dye them, but.... it's kind of amazing that the company that gave so many costume options in STO & CO, ended up making this.

The armor/clothing is extremely conservative in this game. Much more so than the source material. I could live with that, but unfortunately the armor designs are both few and uninspired as well.

Also, not sure why people keep bringing up the realism thing all the time. I mean, realism in a fantasy game? Really? Armor is there to look cool. Any realism is purely coincidental.

This, above all. This is what really will hurt RP/immersion, underneath your armour (whether skimpy or not) we all look the same.

Can we have the option to have a bit of realism when it comes to armor though? I'm not screaming that HAMSTER clothes should be done away with, I just want options. The double standard with armor in RPGs bothers me, but I get that it doesn't bother everyone.

I just want choice. O.O

Yeah, this is what bothers me. Not even just from a RP perspective, but all the models being identical just seems pure lazy to me. But it probably isn't a top concern for such a new game, I suppose. But I really want to see things become more varied over time.

Please give my cleric the option to use the visuals from the mage and rogue armors. I know its more realistic that she be covered head to foot in a 2 inch thick tin can but I would really like the option to make her look nicer.

Yes to more clothing choices, for females and males!

Also, I think it's hilarious how so many people started beating on a strawman. OP wanted choice, people, not to put girls in burkas. Optional sexual objectification for everybody!

Anyway, I have a feeling that they will start adding in more clothing options after they take care of the bigger complaints (class balance, no sound in Foundry, next big exploit in the AH, etc). We're still in "beta" after all. What I'm scared of is they'd make all the options part of the zen shop. But I'm going to be optimistic and hope that we could get at least a couple of free shirts that are not long-sleeved pajama-tops.

Oh, and while we're on the topic of clothes, can we have lace some time in the future? Hey devs, I'm willing to pay for lace! With transparency and everything. That would be cool.

Hey All,

In general, we're looking to make gear progression feel more visually and mechanically meaningful. I don't have more details than that just yet, but I do know that it's on the radar. Thanks for sharing the feedback; it's definitely valid and helpful!

I take less issue to how revealing it is- and more issue to how little variation there is- it all looks the same. Also- the holes in the gear are largely pointless- why are there random gaps in plate and mail armour?

Personally, I actually think the cloth and leather armour are the most reasonable looking- it's the plate and mail which boggles my mind since it actually is meant to protect the wearer.

Keep the holes everywhere armour- but c'mon, add some armour that looks complete, y'know, like the male armour.

It actually tends to go both ways. I mean, if you look at men in fantasy art they are absolutely objectified as well. No one looks like that. And all those super buff barbarians with their oiled muscles and bare chests... probably not approved at work even on casual Friday? The thing is the characters in most RPGs were never intended to be ordinary people. Think Greek gods or super heroes instead.

Yeah, I think everyone agree that armor variety is sorely lacking. More choice is always good.

They just need to rename the game to Neverwinter Academy. We are all students in school uniforms being trained in only 5 known methods of combat in all the realms. At least then the looks would fit :D

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I just tend to imagine my characters more like Eowyn from the LOTR movie, up against the Witch King, still pretty but bad ***.

Choice is what everyone agrees on in any case. =) We all imagine our characters differently.

I too would like to see options for how revealing/form-fitting my clothing is, as well as options for armor type.

I also want to see characters that can look thin, heavy, muscled, not-muscled, etc. - all regardless of gender.

Right now my female half-orc GWF and my female dwarven cleric both fail to look muscled and tough. That should be possible.

Though, compared to other MMOs I think they've done really good on this so far. I was pretty impressed with how tough I could get my half orc to look! haha It's moving in the right direction, I'm happy for that.

The main thing about the female armors that bugs me is that they're kinda skimpy but in a way that makes it look like they're broken as opposed to purposefully made to bet skimpy. Particularly for low level rouges and wizards they look like someone took a pair of scissors to them with they're eyes closed and mad a few random cuts.

That aside yeah more armor variation would be a great thing, also I kinda wish the "fashion outfits" had been done like in Lord of the Rings online where you basically have two sets of gear, the one you're "actually" wearing which gives your stat bonuses and a cosmetic set that lets you put whatever you want on for show, kinda like how the fashion tab is here but you can mix and match normal armor with purely cosmetic stuff so you could for example wear the fancy noble's mask with your normal wizard robes.

Options are good, having "armor" for those that prefer the sleazy street walker or the overly conservative librarian is not an option. The key is that there needs to be an option and not force one preference or the other on people that have difference of opinions. But ultimately remember that the rating is not M like Tera or softcore like Scarlet Blade.
