Yesterday I got my Guardian to level 60. The highest level possible. Yay me. But it took all of two minutes to start feeling very depressed. The main reason why is that there isn't a lot to DO now that I'm here.

I am not psychologically equipped to enjoy PVP, so the emphasis on PVP is a total non-starter for me. Daily quest to play PVP: pointless. PVP seals and all equipment attached to it: pointless. Dungeons that are only accessible after you win at PVP: beyond pointless (literally: here's pointless, and just beyond it...)

Skirmishes? They don't exist at 60. Hope you weren't enjoying those.

Dungeons? This game's dungeons are hard for the sake of being hard, in the most idiotic and unfair way possible. They are not fun to play. My class feels useless, enemies have gratuitously high hitpoints, and defenses aside from "get out of the way" functionally don't exist.

Which pretty much just leaves the foundry. There's a very good reason why I generally don't read fan fiction, and making *interactive* fan fiction just allows for an order of magnitude more ways for it to go wrong.

Now, I'd like to contrast Neverwinter to Star Trek Online, another of Cryptic's fine offerings. In STO there are basically 3 player "classes" and over a hundred playable ships. Your ship is like equipment. It gives you stats. Your ship has weapons, devices, and officers. Different ships do different things, different weapons and officer layouts allow different strategies. The total number of combinations of things you can do is extremely high which translates into enduring gameplay variety. Versus, Neverwinter: You have 5 classes. All of the classes have the same number of abilities and only 1 weapon. Most of your stats offer fractions of a percent in terms of performance, most of your abilities seem either broken or pointless, and there's no real incentive to respec and try something different even if it /was/ free.

And endgame? STO's "dungeons" can be completed by an ordinary group of people. They're relatively easy, which means they are good for having FUN as opposed to sitting down for half an hour of mashing enemies in the face with your paper-mache sword followed by intense frustration ala Neverwinter dungeons. STO has reputation systems that require months of investment to earn unique rewards i.e.: long term goals, and can be earned on either ground and space to suit your preferences. It has starbase projects that both soak resources and allow access to new team-oriented content. There's a reason to keep playing.

Even the community is totally different. In STO you can sit around in a social zone and listen to the endlessly amusing ravings about religion and politics, sometimes there's some roleplay, people ask questions (and receive answers). Versus, Neverwinter's social zone chat is 50% looking for groups and 40% trying to hawk stuff. There's probably a really interesting study that could be done on the psychology of MMOG players by game.

So, yeah, frustrated. Depressesd. Climbed the mountain and found nothing there that was worth the climb. It was a nice climb, but it's not really something you want to do again because there's only one path.

Discuss.

I feel exactly the same way and for the past 3 days have found myself logging in far less. Was a fun ride while it lasted.

It should always be about the journey and not the destination.

I'll hit level 60 by the end of the week and I have enjoyed it greatly. I will either start another character or move on and play something else. I will do so without regrets because I allowed myself to enjoy the journey.

There is a reason I play multiple MMO's.

The good news in all this is that you enjoyed the game so much, you are depressed that you have a sense of it being over, I'm not going to tell you that I was able to still enjoy the game after I reached 60 because what I enjoy others don't, I will say there is more content coming with module one and more classes as well, maybe you should take a break find something to occupy your time until more official content is released?

I'm also enjoying the new STO expansion and I am having a blast in TSW and LOTRO, but if you really are jonesing for more Neverwinter, honestly some of the foundry missions are quite good.

Anyway glad to see a constructive post about the state of things
    Cheers.

    Really?
Maybe its because am CW, but am having fun running the epic versions of dungeons, i have tried the cloaktower, the crypts, idris and they all were super fun, am getting nice pieces for sell, enchantments.. which i found out i have 1% chance of success omfg :O
Ill try wolf den or mad dragon soon.
Game is only over if u wanted it to be, also aberrant skirm is fun, the skirmirsh bonus isnt, its why people hardly run it, 1k ad for it at lv 60 is a letdown, u can run it 2 time max via pugging.

End game content is WAY more worrysome as a problem than the whole economy fiasco, economies tend to balance itselves, but when there is NOTHING to do... people get bored and a boring game is no game at all, i leveled to 60 in 5 days, enjoying the game because the combat is awesome, way less repetitive than other mmos, yeah, the quest could be a little more creative and yes, the idea of the devs of more difficulty is more adds, but as a whole, i enjoyed the content of the quest, but since,2 weeks of entering for entering, i end "playing" a couple hours day, mostly to do a couple foundrys (some of those are awesome, try them, is the best of the game) and crafting, i have still 4 epic dungeons to complete, but im not in a hurry, i am finishin as much archievements as i can, but im really finding less and less motives to keep interested in the game...even getting gear, (12.7k should be enough to play confortably any dungeon) feels pointless.

I got to level 60 and I hadn't even completed even close to all the story arc's or scratched the surface of the stuff thats available in the foundry. Do we level to fast? or is that part of the plan to hopefully get us grinding away at end game?

Anyway I will finish stuff of for the fun there will be no uber and phat lootz but I can enjoy the story, but I have the problem of over leveling the stuff so the challege just becomes trivial.

Um has anyone ever tried just using HAMSTER gear in lower level stuff? Will that work?

I think I got the worst class possible to 60 in just a few weeks - Cleric. I have not spent real money on anything in game and do not have any purple gear. Maybe half my gear is blue. I was waiting to put enchants on some nice equip by now, but nothing dropped and I REFUSE to spend real world money on a f2p game just to get gear good enough to die a thousand times in an epic dungeon. BTW - in case you peeps don't know - you can't even enter an epic dungeon unless you meet the gear requirement. So, basically, I feel the same way you do. I am done with this game. Just so happened I got to 60 the day before Caturday. So after reading all about the cheating going on and how nice everyone was to everyone else during this event (*extreme sarcasm dripping from every word) and I'm done. I have other characters I'm playing out but the love is gone. Its now something I do to spend time with the boyfriend.

this game is based off of the old neverwinter games which in turn come from d&d which as a long time player i have found this game refreshing in that im haveing difficulty with the dungeons at high levels (like a d&d campaigne(shock horror)) the fact that monster have rediculously high hitpoints is just like a high level d&d game (suprised) and to top it off it the fact that your class feels useless is just the game going ha you thought you were tough **** in your wow and guild wars well guess what now you gotta work your *** off to surrvie like you would have to if the game were real oor it was a D&D CAMPAIGE

Just like any other skinner box, I mean MMO, if you want something to do at max level you can grind something, be it cash, loots, achievements etc. If you enjoyed the leveling you can level an alt.

If none of that sounds fun go spend time doing something else.

If you are any class other than GF or GWF, you will be able to have fun a bit longer after levelling, but only a little.

In NW, the combat is basic but fun for a while and the linear questing is above average. However, the systems around the core gameplay,

    - from lack of respecs (important for players to have even basic understanding and get to know their class),
    - to broken aggro,
    - to lack of class synergy,
    - to broken class balance,
    - to the crudest and worst dungeon finder ever seen in a modern MMO (roles, what are those?)
    - to broken loot system including horrible loot notification design,
    - to nonsensical, non-progressive class loot itemization/stat weighting,
    - to awful character maintenance economy (*),
    - to tedious and undiversified dungeon design (yes, *every* fight is adds fight),
    - to huge number of glitches and exploits (so many players do not bother to report them),
    - to broken currency design,
    - to reduced and pointless/non-scaling rewards for level 60s (all those XP rewards),
    - to incomplete and imbalanced professions (there is more than one currency you know),
    - to the most non-MMO, non-scaling, time-wasting Facebook style crafting system ever created for an MMO,
    - to broken AH and AH interface,
    - to broken chat system where *everything* and everyone goes into [Zone],
    - to intentionally and unintentionally broken broader game economy (the more broken a freemium game economy is the more real money that is spent. Also reason why character wipe is pointless),
    - to completely unbalanced and heavily abusable PvP,
    - to unbalanced and buggy Foundry (yeah, try running most foundries as an endgame Cleric...),
    - to horrible customer support,
    - etc.

... make NWO a very average or even below average MMO.

In short, NWO has a much lower playability than its competitors like Tera or Vindictus or Dragon Nest. The shame is that it is not because of its core combat or levelling but from every other thing that make a successful MMO. It is not a game you will be playing much, if at all, even a month from now, unless you are a "whale" and have invested heavily in the cash shop.

(*) Yeah, that gold currency you thought was useless after level 25 and you basically ignored it, is the same thing that will likely cause you or be a big factor to stop playing the game when you hit 60. It is critical for the most important potions and injury kits which you will use up way faster than you can replenish, since there are no ready sources of gold or gold exchange in the game.

I hit level 60 before the whole Caturday mess (Who comes up which these names anyway?). Since then I have been working on my Gear Score and pushing hard to complete each and ever quest, explore every area (Which I have to say... Mount Hotenow was the most broken map I have ever experienced just saying). I do the PVP for the glory and have tried dungeons but always get ditched at the end with less heal pots than I had and nothing to show for it. I have done a Skirmish but it never really got anywhere and was annoying to say the least. I have enjoyed the ride and have put both time and money into it. I am not wanting a second character but what I wanted was to be able to see the new 60th level area Gauntlgrym but to my dismay no such luck as it has not come available for some reason. I was kinda hoping to continue on and do some thing to do the last dungeon. Now though I am just bored and all my hopes feel sundered because after a week or so of looking and doing all I can I still haven't found it.

just like a high level d&d game

I cannot think of Neverwinter as D&D, high level or otherwise. Cue extended ranting bonus features!

    * There's nothing to do except fight. There's no travel time, there's no logistics, there's no healing, conversations, equipment management (other than selling your trash), or learning spells. Basically the stuff that a D&D group will spend half its time doing is not represented.

    * You can't do anything outside of your class, you can't even ATTEMPT it. If you're not a rogue, you can't disarm a trap. Period. You can be the smartest most dextrous person in the universe, but you cannot make a roll at it because you didn't take the right classes in adventurer school.

    * There's no scroll, wands, charged items, or other such consumables. A big part of D&D strategy is to know when and how to use the stuff you've got. A well timed oil flask or antitode is huge. Neverwinter has basically two consumables: Scrolls of WTF Is This which you will use a LOT of because there's no concept of lore checks or familiarity, and Potions of Irrelevantly Small Stat Bonus which you won't notice the effect of except using statistical analysis.

    * Huge huge problem: Loot is boring and does nothing. I think in my entire run I got ~6 blue quality items which were not statically placed, and only 1 of THOSE was for my class. And not a single piece of equipment has any special abilities or lets me do anything I couldn't do without that piece of gear. Contrast with any good game of D&D where fancy stuff will generally have some kind of backstory and DO something, like make you immune to diseases, give you an extra spell slot, let you use your wildform more often, SOMETHING. Neverwinter has a very small set of gameplay mechanic and nothing diverges from them. For example, I'm a guardian: Why don't I have a longsword that gains automatic criticals against a specific kind of monster? Or a shield that, once per "day", can project an magical force field?

    Meh.

I really don't understand why people always pull this statement out of their butt.

Maybe in a game that's supposed to be about the Journey. There's rarely any MMO's now that do.

I mean really, 1-60 here. It's just very generic questing all the way through, and you level very fast. How is it going to be fun the 2nd time around? Lol.

Atleast in Champions Online, completely creating a new hero with a theme/costume and skill set to match was fun even if there was no end game.

This game just feels like CO but w/o the customization lol.

That is fine that you don't understand it. Everyone has different opinions as to what makes a fun game. Everyone has different goals in the game. Personally I have no desire to run high end dungeons in groups. I don't care if I don't have epic gear or millions of AD. I have one goal when I log in and the is to have some fun. If the journey to level 60 is not interesting and enjoyable then, for me, I don't see the point in wasting my time to reach that goal.

If there is nothing for me to do at level 60 then so be it. I have enjoyed the path getting there. If I enjoyed it enough then maybe I start an alt and do it again. If not I move on.

Agree dungeons are somewhat artificially hard on this game, unless your right class. I would guess GF gets kinda same treatment as GWF from people that follow metas and are pretty much frowned upon. Then when you find actual people that are not all about meta, you just end up overall unbalanced setup with lack of healer or something.

Play a new class, fool around with some foundry, try making your own foundry quests.

If none of these appeal you, leave. You are not bound to this game, and you can always come back (until the servers go down). Mess around with some other games, you might find one that makes you want to stay in that game. Or just find a time-killer until Cryptic begins pumping out the other classes, Gauntylgyrm, and other goodies they've teased us with.

Nothing's keeping you here and nothing says you can't come back.
