Is a 'full wipe' even something that is even remotely being considered by Cryptic?

I see a bunch of chatter about a 'wipe' from guild mates, and here on the forums. I am just curious if there is anything at all, to back up the notion that this is even something that is being considered by the game maker / publisher.

so far, I think it's just 'player suggestion'.

The only 'real / official' information on this that I can see is the promise from Cryptic that there would be no wipes after the 25th of April.

It's in all the marketing information that sold the game to the founders, and is one of the primary facts I based my time and money expenditures on. (I certainly wouldn't have taken time off of work, had I thought that the character I was playing would one day be wiped.)

So, I'm just curious is all this chitter chatter, just wishful thinking by some of the more vocal players of the game? Or has Cryptic some how put this on the table as a possibility?

I already know that were a 'wipe' to happen, I most certainly wouldn't play this game that I love so much any more.

but even considering that it 'might' be a possibility has put me in a bit of a tail spin wondering if I should continue investing time and energy into my current characters.

Anyone have anything that comes from 'Dev's or even community managers, that would indicate that a 'wipe' is on the table?

perhaps a re-affirmation of the add campaign of 'there will be no wipes after April 25th 2013' would be in order from an official rep.

anyway, thanks for checking for me, so far, I see nothing that indicates it's an official consideration, but there are enough other people talking about it, as if it might be a possibility it has me worried.

Thanks!
Thanks,

zWolf / Wesgar

They have said in the forums (yesterday's announcements updates and on Twitter) they are NOT doing a wipe.

    Search harder.

It's just that alot of the toxic players were spamming the forums between yesterday and today with wipe / new server demands but I believe a mod took care of them. Simple answer is, they have been asked many times this question and they stand the same as they did when they first answered them.

There will be no "complete wipe" and no "new server" (since they will be merging all shards into one mega server.

Note the word complete, because they will do necessary rollbacks if they have to.

There is always the possibility of a wipe just like there is always the possibility that a gorgeous woman would materialize on top of my lap when I post this message, but that would require the majority of players no longer being able to play their character instead of people completely clueless why the rollback occurred. I would not understand the reason if I didn't frequent the forums. The wipe is effectively the nuke version of fixing a problem in MMOs. Its an absolute last resort and the fallout from it will take years to dissipate. I have never heard a single case when a wipe was used unless the game came to an end or the test servers needed some cleanup.

why would a company not wipe the entire game between beta and launch ? makes no sense , everyone should be on the same page / footing, starting fresh on the day the game launches

Beta with game companies means 100 different things it's pathetic. It can mean anything from soft launch as a scape goat if there are any major bugs, to this game is not even close to being finished, to even this is just a glorified demo. So many other reasons to call a game 'beta' when it's really not.

All the fear mongering should at least be dwindling as proof that people didn't exactly get away scott free with caturday since the value of diamonds are actually going up(costs less per zen). So fear mongering because of that is just plain dumb. The only way you can expect a wipe is if they complete and utterly revamp the game like Square did with FF14.

if you took time off of work to level a cartoon character, then I hope I never have to work with you.

    1. In the f2p genre over the past few years, "open beta" has become synonymous with "launch (but there may be big bugs!)". They let everyone in, they open the cash shop wide..... it's launched, they're just keeping the beta label as an excuse for problems.

    2. In this particular game's case, it was specifically announced at the start of "open beta", that there would be no wipe. The only reason discussion of wipes keeps coming up is because of a small subset of extreme forum posters who have been campaigning for it since they got frozen out on controlling the auction house For Massive Profits (oh, whoops, I mean "because the economy is broken!")

exactly, usually what they done is open new server, those who like "wipe" can moved on and those who not want it can go on. by the terms of "merging server" I believe the indication is going this way
