The organization was led for a long time by Fzoul Chembryl but that was in the 3.5 D&D edition
In 4th edition, then the timeline of this game , its leader is Manshoon a vampiric clone of the original wizard Manshoon, formerly known as Orbakh.
Current leader of the Zhentarim is Fzoul Chembryl.

As noted the current year should be approximately 1460 DR as this is 75 years post the Spellplague. Therefore the correct answer should be the final clone of Manshoon.
By 1434 DR, the final Manshoon clone would raise an army of undead and take refugee in the citadel of Stormwatch, from there he would retake the Zhentarim, with Darkhold and Stormwatch as their only bases. The Zhentarim would be reduced to nothing more than mercenaries hoping to re-achieve their former glory by taking any contract as long as it had good pay.
