The Spellplague took place in 1385 Dale Reckoning. Neverwinter, the MMO, takes place a hundred years after the events of the Spellplague. So, that would mean Neverwinter takes place around 1485 DR.
Manshoon's last clone, now again known simply as Manshoon, destroys Elminster in 1479 DR, while being the leader of the Zhentarim, which is now reduced to a bunch of mercenaries and some priests of Cyric. Elminster, however, isn't destroyed after all, but reduced to a pile of magical ash. Later on, Elminster attempts to destroy Manshoon, but realizes that Manshoon is in fact a Chosen of Mystra, and thus Elminster isn't powerful enough to destroy him.
So, not only is Manshoon one of the most powerful beings on Toril, he is indeed the current leader of the Zhentarim, around 1485 Dale Reckoning, which should be when Neverwinter takes place.

Pretty sure its Manshoon because after the spellplague there was the Manshoon wars and then the one Manshoon which rejoined the Zhentarim is considered the true Manshoon and then became the leader of the Zhentarim again.
So i'm going to say Manshoon during neverwinters period (Manshoons clone to be exact but he's now classed as the true Manshoon)

Manshoon is the current leader of the Zhentarim, but it's a clone that was called Orbakh till it became the last clone apparently. I would really like to know the book series with this, though it sounds like part of the last shadowbane book.

Did myself a bit of research and as far as I can tell, Orbakh the last remaining clone of Manshoon, retook the Zhentarim with an army of undead in 1434 DR making him the current Zhentarim leader.
