Are people underestimating the value of gold?

I see people say that gold is useless. Looking at my self, i only quested (no foundey) to get to level 60. Sometimes some pvp with it. At the end, i saw 38 gold in my pocket. While numbers are just relative, i found out doing T2 Dugeons with pugs how important gold is.

Sometimes i use 3-5 Medikits which is 1 gold and between 10-20 potions and that is another 1.5 gold.

But in most games, doing a dungeon means you get gold. But not in this game. I never got more than i spent doing a T2 dungeon so far.

What are your thoughts?

Yep, they do. I saw someone offering 1M AD for 150g this morning. Gold seems worthless right until you start doing T2 or Castle Never and run into the problem with pots and the kits. I have been steadily losing gold on my CW, and I imagine it's worse for melee classes.

I was a 54g when I hit 60. I'm at 40g now and it keeps going down. Sooner or later ill have to start buying ID scrolls with AD so I can vendor gear for more gold and stay in the green.

You either didnt have a cleric, or didnt have a good one. Either that, or the cleirc is way nerfed later game and cant heal well enough to keep up with the damage. I wouldnt know, I'm only level 41, and dont play him anymore. Aggro system needs to be fixed first.

    We're specifically talking about endgame.

To an extent they are. It is quite interesting to see people trying to sell purple gear/items in chat for gold rather than AD. Least some are on Beholder.

Yes they are underestimating the value.
And of course there's the kits and the potions to be worried about as well. Gold is basically useless early on but the higher level you get the more important it becomes.

However you should be at least breaking even if not gaining more than it cost you in pots. If not that's likely something deserves the developers taking a closer look if others are also finding themselves in the same scenario.

Yep you don't know, the cleric can't heal when the CW is trying to rank first on dps. If the CW fails at having a 100% uptime on major control abilities then here is the issue, the cleric won't heal you when swarms of small npcs are harassing him, and everyone will waste tons of gold on potions.

This is the reason I dont play my cleric anymore. I get aggro to easily, and its impossible to shake.

Well i was invited to do a T2 Pirate, they needed a CW.

This group knew what they were doing (guild people) 2 Clerics to stack Astral Shield and a CW to push off the monster. But what they did was run through the whole map and had 4 points where you stop. During the stops you stand on Astral Shields and Repel monsters. Did this instance 4 times in 1 hour during Delve. I am not sure if the developers intended this like that.

However , in THAT group i used 0 pots and kits. But doing Ice Cave with a pug, i went through 5 kits and 20+ gold due the wipes at last boss. And then i don't breakeven, i lose money.

Well you can but you need the wizard not trying to LOLDPS the instance. I've ran a dungeon with an awesome wizard doing his job yesterday. I didn't know they could do so much control. So basically i think it's just their fault when the cleric is overwhelmed. :D

I may be wrong but playing a cleric isn't hard at all when mobs are under control.

Yup. Losing gold in end-game dungeons are just drastic. Med-kits, potions, ID. I don't know if its what developers intend. Soon everyone will be force to sell AD for gold which is not a good sign.

*Edited: Many early gamers think that gold is worthless but actually they are so so important at the end.

Well..trying to aim heals isnt easy, but if mobs are controlled, clerics job is that much easier.

And they ARE called CONTROL Wizards for a reason I guess. They just feel the control is another word for DPS.

Actually, I sort of like it. Not for the AD part, but that people start to sell gear for gold. This addresses one of the complaints from free players, too, and it gives more choice. The downside are the gold sellers.

Nicely said imivo about the part people will starting selling gears for gold. But so far AD is still the "in" thing cause AH uses them

Aiming heals is easy: sun burst, bastion of health, divine mode astral shields, hallowed ground... All these powers are aoe heals and don't require targetting. But as a clerics we need to be able to stand somewhere and kill some stuff to build up the divine and daily powers. Thus we need the control wizard to control mobs harder. But they often fail at doing this and will often run DPS stuff just to rank first.

If they don't do that everyone will just use 20 or more potions during boss fights, but when i can do my cleric job properly, the team barely need potions. There is no mystery about the gold losses at endgame. It's just control not controlling and clerics not healing.

Gold is really needed because it pays for consumables, will be always useful through the game. Also, in the earlygame it pays for gear in critical levels, such as 20 or 30, and some classes can't afford to skip it.

It's basically the currency for NPCs, while AD's being the player/convenience currency (the weapons that you can buy aren't better, but they are prettier: you want them for fashion purposes).
    Characters:
    - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer)
    - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur)
    - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC)
    - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)

At this rate gold will run out. When i dinged 60, someone was selling something for 25g. Then before buying it i realize. Hey; i just quested 1000 quests and did some dungeons and i only have 39g? So i declined the sale. Now i feel it is robbery tricking people into them buying items for gold, because they WILL need it for t2 and need much of it.

Yeah they don't get it. Was actually an argument the other day over this in zone chat because some were mocking the person selling a pruple item for gold. They were mocking him or her. Would be amusing if one of them bought the item because I'm pretty sure the seller would have the last laugh. Think he was selling the item for 50 gp if I recall correctly.

Explains why I've seen people advertising Keys for 25-30g....

One problem is... what else is there to do for gold at 60?

Dungeons, PvP, and Foundry? Oh, and professions. Perhaps there needs to be some PvE "grindy"/repeatable content - dailies or reputations or something - the the less-dungeon-inclined players can do to earn loot/AD/gold, which they can then funnel to the T2'ers to fund their consumables.

And maybe some of this is coming in Gauntlgrym (sp?).... hopefully that thing won't also just be queued/group stuff.

Part of the issue is the rarity of Greater ID Scrolls at 60, so while you get a lot of greens in dungeons, you can't ID them unless you use AD to buy scrolls. Buying gold with AD is probably cheaper.

Well that is another thing. You can sell unidentified stuff for 1 silver, Which in a good Dungeon run can still net you 30+ silver. The annoying thing is and that is the reason why people decline looting them is the constant "are you sure you want to sell" window popping up.

I also upgarded an item today and sold my previous epic. Gave me 1g+. So that is also something to keep in mind. In this game, 1g is not a small amount

Ah, but many haven't realized yet that gold is actually valuable. :p

edit: also makes me very glad I spent $5 on a basic zen horse. That's 5g saved on each of my alts.

    There is none.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Too early to say. The guy I saw offered 1M AD for 150g, so around 6600 AD for 1 gold. But not enough people do that yet, so it's hard to say what people are going to settle for. One key for 5g would work at those prices too, which basically puts 1 gold at around $1.
