This is more of a suggestion than an actual complaint. Don't get me wrong, please.
As far as I know, the Drow race will be locked until 60 days after the official game's release, and in the meantime it can only be picked if you buy the deluxe Hero of the North Founder Pack.
I'm a Drow player since a very long time - basically when I started RPing and learned about the Forgotten Realm setting. I've played all types of Drow - heroic, villains and of all faiths and credos. Well, I don't want to make this too long - you can just say that I know a lot about them lorewise-.
Of course that means that I'm willing to pay if that means getting early access to my favorite race. I have no problem with that. But 200 dollars... It's too much I believe.
Couldn't you guys release a "Drow Geek" kind of pack worth 60 or 50 dollars? I don't need VIP log access or Panther companions - I just want to be a dark-skinned elf, goddamit! :P
Characters: - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer) - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur) - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC) - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)

Ugh..no. I looked at it like a Kickstarter. Support Cryptic get a bunch of cool stuff for doing so. I like Drow. I'm going to play a Drow Trickster Rogue at launch. But if I had to qualify my purchase it would be for the three character slots, 750,000 Astral Diamonds, VIP access, and the spider mount which would be something stupid like 2.5 million AD if I bought in game, or 4000 ZEN. That's if I had to qualify it.
Like I said up top. Kickstarter: Cool stuff for doing so. Ugh maybe they should give Guardians Svirfneblin

Are you serious? We get the drow 60 days after launch. For free! Duh. It's been stated everywhere. The only "drow" thing they get is a menzoberranzon renegade. Same thing except one has feiry fire and the other dosent. So who cares. Come back 60 days after launch and play a drow. Personally I don't wanna "COPY" everybody and be a "Drizzt Clone". It will ruin my fav forgotten realms character.
All the available races at launch will be free. We are planning to release the regular Drow for free post-launch (after at least 60 days to allow for Founder's Pack exclusivity). Note that only the regular Drow race will become available; the Menzoberranzen Renegade will always remain exclusive to Hero of the North Pack purchases.

Well, the whole point of my post was to ask if it was possible to play a Drow BEFORE those 60 days... I really liked this game but I'm a one-character kind of player and it would kill my mood to play a vanilla character and then do everything again with the Drow.
And I think that "everybody" can't afford 200 in a pack, lol. Specially to copycat Drizzt - I haven't spend a dime on any of his books, never appealed to me. :P

I see, so only Founders will be able to play them, then. That's what I was asking. Though I still think that a "Renegade Pack" without the VIP access and stuff, more economical, could also be appealing for some of the playerbase.
I'd pay 50 dollars or so to play a Drow since day 1, at least.

This.
I find it misleading and perhaps even scandalous when people throw-up a title like "$200 for a Race ZOMG!!!11!11!)
The HotN Pack is not about the Drow. It never has been. It's like the Guardian Founder pack: it's about extras (some are services like extra character slots) and some are in-game items (like Astral Diamonds and exclusive mounts, etc.). The Mezzo Drow is just one of the additional extras to help justify the higher-end option (along with the Spider and even more additional character slots, etc.)
Frankly the Drow thing doesn't interest me at all. If I could give it away I would. To the OP: I realize you aren;t complaining, I do see your disappointment and that's fair. I just wish you'd have picked a better thread title is all. Really. I think it lays some (not intentional, I'm sure) insult to those who have invested (yes, we see it as an investment) in Cryptic and surely the Drow was a deciding factor for many, but hardly the only one.
I find it misleading and perhaps even scandalous when people throw-up a title like "$200 for a Race ZOMG!!!11!11!)
The HotN Pack is not about the Drow. It never has been.
I totally call BS, it is absolutely about that, otherwise drow would be in at launch, and not a 60 day "exclusivity" thing.
Throwing Drizzt in every ones face for TWO HUNDRED dollars is an absolute scam, and anyone who would argue with that would typically have their subscription status for games in their sigs.
I could care less for drow and probably will never play one.
I will start the game from day one with at least $1040 worth of items, mostly including mounts and companions. Probably close to $1200 worth of stuff which does NOT include a playable race like the drow.
If its true what they say that the game with all its content shall be free, then they need to make money otherwise! So if selling the drow class to the "must have" players means i get to play it all for free, i wont complain because i dont get to play drow!

They better have a way to buy a race change for a character. It would definitely be a bummer. Especially for RPers/RP-Guilds, or people who just enjoy the Drow having to set themselves behind because of this decision.
They clearly pushed the Menzo-Renegade because they KNEW that Drow as a popular race. So they wanted to squeeze as much money out of that as possible. If the only difference between the two races is going to be "Faerie Fire" then it just doesn't seem right. With all of the other things Heroes of the North get, don't you think that locking out the drow for 2 months is kinda bad?
Having a buyable race change for when the Drow will launch will be a band-aid at least.
Arrows and Blades do not have names on them.
They are addressed, "To whom it may concern.."
? Simply start your own launch 60 days later. It's F2P, you can play whenever you like. If it's an RP guild, I believe they can also wait for 60 days... What are friends for?
So those who's only half-orc player has to wait for months or forever? lol.

Nah I bought the HotN pack solely for the Robe of useless items...
And don't forget about spider mount . His speed is low so you have to buy another one from the zen shop. Greedy game developers

60 days is a LONG time in MMO land. Everybody will be well ahead of you, so all this talk of starting your launch 60 days later seems like nonsense. You shouldn't have to wait 2 months to play the game. -_- My plan was for a drow rogue and a tiefling wizard. My plan was to level the wizard first and wait for the rogue. After beta, I loved the rogue but found the wiz kind of lackluster. So I want to wait for the warlock class for my Tiefling. This means at launch I have nothing to play (I greatly disliked cleric and guardian).
This could all be solved by simply having a race change token in the shop so that I could just play my rogue as a regular elf at launch and then race change to drow once they are officially released. I see no reason to argue against this idea at all.
This is more of a suggestion than an actual complaint. Don't get me wrong, please.

For all i care they make drow for everyone at release, doesnt matter for me. As for the drizzt skin it doesnt matter for me either.
I bought the pack for the spider and the pet, with the Astral diamonds , character slots etc.
Ill probably never use the drizzt skin. who kow maybe in the far future as mage or warlock but i even doubt that

Probably because the darkest you can get it is a very dark brown. On top of that apparently the MenzoGade apparently has options to several different cosmetic options at Character Creation that the vanilla Drow lacks. So it's more then just Faerie Fire having a different name, and glow then Darkfire.
In any event doesn't change the fact I didn't buy the package for the Drow. It's just a very nice bonus. Also giant armored spider mount.

I'm with the OP on this one. I don't give a **** that the $200.00 pack gave those buyers the Drizzt Drow; I care that I wanted to make a drow character and I don't want to make something now and have to re-roll it in two months because someone who spent more money than I did needs their special snowflake moment. I realize that not everyone who bought a Hero pack is one who demands any kind of "only me" period for the Drow but I think it's a bit lame to either force me to re-roll or force me to play a character I'm not that interested in for two months - the site front should more or less make all of this clear on the pages where they're asking for your money; it shouldn't necessarily be required that I dig into the forums and hunt down a FAQ to find out that I've effectively blown sixty bucks since I'm not going to risk wasting my time on one character now only to re-make it later.
Hell, even WoW doesn't require you to own the expansions that introduced the other races anymore; you can make a character of any time regardless of what expansions you own. Granted, most people who actually play and are subbed to WoW will probably own whatever the current expansion it but it's still solid to not hold races hostage. That's a lame move by Cryptic or PWE.
EDIT - Also, my apologies for necroing this thread; however, I didn't want to make another one and my search yielded this one as the most similar to what I wanted to ask about, which was the availability of a race change down the road. The good news about all of this is that nearly every MMO these days offers gender/faction/race changes for a fee (well, I don't know that Aion does, but it only has two races and I think they would worry about the PVP balance) so I suppose it's possible we'll see a race change option for Zen down the line.
I bet they are counting on selling a race change on the shop! Of course players won't wait two months before playing, they WILL become attached to their two months old character though... and will probably buy the race change when it's available haha. I smell a marketing thing.

When you put down $200 on a game from a big company you should make sure you plan to play more than $15 x 10 months which you could have used on a pay to play plus box lol

Frankly I didn't buy the $200 pack because I didn't want to play drow all that much, now if they had offered dragonborn. ... I'm not taken with riding a giant spider around, and watching them in town hasn't made me want to ride one more. And last it would have been painful to squeeze that much out of my budget though I could have I suppose.
That said the rest of the items where tempting to me but not quite enough to cough up for the founders pack. ::shrug::

I fully agree and while I find it a tiny bit snarky, I'm hoping it happens as I'm exactly as you describe; I'm not going to just let my sixty bucks rot, I like this game, it's actually pretty fun. So I'll just take the plunge and make my character now and hope to the high heavens that a race change pops up later.
I do think the armored spider mount looks really cool too and it seems well animated; I just don't like it quite enough to drop 200 dollars for it or for early drow access. I think I'm with Terradraconis though; I would've shelled out for Dragonborn - they're a type of race that is just missing straight-up from nearly every MMO out there. In fact, the only MMO I can think of with playable dragons was an old game called Horizons, Empires of Istaria, which had legit playable dragons, not humanoid dragons. I know the Aman race in TERA are supposed to be descended from Dragons but they look more like demonic humanoid elephants to me (look at those feet!) and my slayer was one.
I think one day Cryptic might add DB if they fit the world right. They're a really cool race and it's a lot different from what is in most MMOs right now.
