I plan to buy a few keys, I don't have time to farm anything. For 4 hours of farming I could just go to work and get $80

I'm on board with you. I'm one of the guys that's going to be dumping zen into this game. If I spent 4 hours of wages on this game I could buy a metric F** ton of lockboxes/keys. As long as the rewards make it worth my while.

It's gambling. Just because it doesn't resemble the gambling seen in casinos doesn't mean it isn't gambling. I don't think anyone implied that gambling in this game is a serious disorder like casino gambling addiction can be. That doesn't mean having in this game is good or desirable, because most think it's not.

Question - would you also crusade against packs of baseball cards & Magic cards?

(not that I'm necessarily a fan of every lockbox out there. TERA's are lousy - the rewards are just boring; the ones in the couple Aeria games I've played are abusive as all heck; Star Trek's..... those ones I don't mind as much. Cheap keys, with at least moderately useful & interesting stuff even when you don't get the rare drop. Plus the guaranteed Lobi crystals so even when you don't get The Cool Thing, you're still saving up for other rewards.)

Frankly, if I get overflowed with lockboxes I will just put them on the AH for a tiny number of crystals and contribute to the entire lockbox economy tanking.

You think this is bad? The first rendition of Champions Online Lockboxes had a truly demented drop rate. To the tune of 200 Lockboxes a day, possibly even more. 1000 or more by the time you hit max level. And they dropped almost NOTHING of any use. These? They drop items that can be used from Level 1 to Endgame, with many of those items being genuinely useful. I even opened a couple myself and got a few "make-life-easier items".

Sadly neverwinter will go on pause for me to see how cryptic and pwe will handle the item shop, paying for a key and hoping for a mount doesnt reward me for my hard work i could spend 100 hours getting the mount and the x person will get it on first try :(

Same here, not to mention i've bought two pieces of the jester's outfit with the bars that come from them, if that tells you anything. (and those two items are the only ones i regret, so ugly, ugh)

He seems perfectly happy with what he is doing, why should he subscribe to your notion of what's "real."

Trolling aside, I limit myself to a specific amount each month in STO....I'm good about not going over that, Neverwinter will be no different for me.

Never played a PWE game before huh? trust me, a lot of people will quit when they find out just how bad PWE is. It was a sad/sorry day when I found out PWE took over for Cryptic. Never let a money hungry compnay like PWE run anything unless you want it run into the ground.

If you guys are getting so bent out of shape about the lockbox (a small aspect of the item shop, with keys buyable in-game and cash shop currency obtainable in-game), then you'd best avoid Aeria games. Tried one recently, the cash shop turned out to be mostly random boxes. With no way to get currency or keys in-game. And the boxes costing up to $5 each, depending on if the "main prize" in the box was a mount or costume.

out of 20 boxes I ended up getting the Nightmare and the Flaming Bird thing... so I dont think the odds are too stacked against players... or I am just lucky

I had to open 400 boxes for that mate. You're just lucky.
PS: To support Cryptic, I've opened 600 so far! :D

The mount is BoE, which means you can save it if you want to use it on a different character. The lockboxes are great, at the moment you almost always end up getting something that's worth more than 125z. The enchants sell like crazy and you can easily earn more AD than what the key cost (I buy them from the AH). In the end I've made more AD from selling the stuff I get than what I've spent on the keys.

Opened about ~80-100 boxes, gotten the mount, 2x pets, tons of very rare enchants, some rare enchants, weapon enchants, profession assets, profession tools and of course the idols.

I spent $90 on keys and got no mount. 1 firebird pet. 2 epic lesser weapon enchants.

and 67786345e5t35r25245 runestones which I cant fit in the puiny bank so I then had to buy 2 bank expansions and 3 bags

    PayPal contacted me inquiring. lol.

The only zen purchase I am happy with is the wedding dress. It's like a rogue magnet in PvP. Being able to wear fashion gear while not losing stats from standard armor is excellent.
