The Brothers versus the Sisters of Sci Fi

I'm an old gamer, a science fiction fan and fantasy lover since 1965.

Am I sensing a little bit of tension betwixt the "old boys" of fantasy gaming, and the new lot of sci fi and gaming sisters?

What do You think? I once read an article in a science fiction magazine that I can't recall the title of, right now, but the article spent more time on the "glitzy girl", and didn't make mention at all about the femme fighter pilots.

The article referenced "Battle Star Galactica" circa 1983.

I see comments from the boys on the forums, and some comments are kinda terse, as if they think that science fiction and fantasy is a "male only" kind of space.

I disagree. I've loved science fiction, comic books, and other flights of fantasy since I was a tiny girl of 6.

Comments? Do you think that the realm of fantasy is gender-specific, and if so, why?

HAHAHAHA! SF is male only space!? Doesn't Anne McCaffrey's Dragonrider series prove that speculative fiction is gender neutral? As for gaming, the whole debate is childish. It all boils down to boys not wanting girls to intervene into their games because girls are "yucky."

    The way I see it:

There are, uhh, to put it politely,..."thickheaded" people everywhere. No matter which segment of the population you are looking at -- pick any race, age, gender, political affiliation, religion, etc. -- there are always going to be a certain percentage that are biased and overly judgemental.

I just try to ignore those few "bad apples" that are poor representations of any given segment.

I think the percentage of decent people on these forums is higher than average.

In one of my firsts posts on this forum, I wrote something to the effect of "I rarely post on gaming forums." Yet, looking back now, I've posted more here than I've ever posted anywhere else (combined) because of this community.

Just don't let the idiots get to ya. :)

A game is only as good as it's community. I'm happy to see ours is as good as it is. Let's keep it up! :)
