In the interest of fairness, here is the poll, made for the Females of our fine establishment. I made the original thread just to be a little silly and to play on the Male Gamer Stereotype, and to be honest I didn't expect it to generate such serious replies. Shows you what
I know.
So, anyway, here it is: Girls, how many male characters are in your list, and if you feel so inclined, why?
Comments
FOR THE SEVEN!!!
I am in 100% exactly the same boat.
So, from KWS's City of Data..
Females: 81 toons, 2264 total levels (L28 average), 27 L50s
Males: 12 toons, 207 total levels (L17 average), 0 L50s
For my part I never play male characters. I just don't want to. *shrugs!* Sometimes I wish my female characters had the male armor options, though. **** plates and missing sections to show off skin are really awkward to look at. Especially when they're also asymmetrical. I'd rather just have regular armor, myself. I don't mind asymmetry, really, just the skin being shown.
That said, a lot of female gamers play male characters to avoid creepers and sexual harassment online. So your mileage may vary, especially with a poll as limited as this one.

Also, I apologize, I seem to have inadvertently offended you. What other options would you have liked to have seen?
No matter what I choose to RP or play online, never played a male. Yick! Disgusting. Males have no fashion sense, and they seldom bathe. And they think playing with spiders and snakes is fun. Brrr.
I know, some of my male friend gamers play a female character because "if I'm gonna look at an avatar in game it's gonna be a sexy avatar."
Fine. I've always played a female avatar online, and I'm quite happy with with kickin' creepers in the RP nuts, or calling the PD on the serious wackjobs.
Or I just shoot them. And my hubby can shoot them too.
We both do bi-weekly target practice at our fav shooting range.
My shooting buds call me "Annie Oakley" 'cause I can rapid-fire 12 rounds in 5 seconds in-target.
Sorry I couldn't vote in your poll, hon.
Again, for those of you whom I have made upset by this poll, I apologize. I really didn't mean to rile anyone up, just making conversation. I really didn't intend this to be a serious as it's turning out to be.
A better poll would just kill the flavor text.

With an invitation to explain why in the thread.
And yeah: Boo to the Chainmail Bikini. Gonna find myself some real armor and then wear it as my "Fashion" armor forever.

Just saying, I can't compare to the physical prowess of my D&D characters, or any other virtual/game character for that matter. While I can kick people with steel-toed boots (and did! in 6th grade!), and now come equipped with two easily accessible knives at all times, I'll just never be able to compete to my virtual selves. (Alas, I have a permit to carry, but firearms are too big/heavy for my purse. I am SUCH A GIRL. Where's my backpack?)
*shrugs* Oh, I don't know, I think I like you IRL over your digital counterpart. #notflirting
I am more tangible at least, if not as athletic or skilled. ^_^
For the characters I play, I invest a piece of myself into them. That's why I play so few males, and so few evil characters. That's just not where my headspace is, I don't identify with it, so I'm not invested in it. The characters that I loved most in City of Heroes made me laugh:
BubbleYumm - FF/Psy Defender
A piece of bubblegum mistakenly tracked into a Crey lab on the bottom of a scientist's shoe. Exposure to mysterious 'lab rays" made the gum sentient. It then melded with a nearby semi-sentient robot, forming the life form it is today.
Booster Packrat - Arch/Traps Corruptor
This character's costume had one piece from each of the available booster packs. It got harder and harder to fit pieces in, as I began running out of slots in the costume. It almost felt like the developers/designers were trying to help me out, because they kept releasing costume pieces in new slots (neck, cape, tail, hat, etc.). Once the game went Hybrid/F2P I gave up, because costume packs were coming fast and furious, and I was out of places to put pieces. But the concept still amuses me, and of course, I love the power sets.
Iron Chef Shishkabob - Spines/Fire Scrapper
Her battlecry was "Allez cuisine!"
Otherwise I'd never have played a scrapper to L50. I am so not a melee person.
Generally speaking, I had to really like the costume, back-story/concept, and power-set combo in order to play a toon more than about 7 levels. I invest a little bit of myself into a character I like a lot, and so those characters tend to be a lot like me. I know that's a little narrow of me, and maybe it means I'm bad at RP, but I feel no need to challenge my boundaries. :P I'm comfortable being a girl and playing girl characters.
Totally. I never leveled up most of my characters except for the ones that represented me, my wife and our daughter. We'll see how far that carries over in Neverwinter.
Cute post practicing trans-gender? You've almost got it right.
The "firearms are too big/heavy for my purse" kinda spoiled it. Try again.
Practicing for... ? I'm sorry, I don't really understand your post. >_>
And firearms *are* too big/heavy for my purse. First of all, I'd never find a firearm in it anyway, and second of all, my purse is already huge and full of stuff. Honestly I wish I could just carry around my AR (not concealed, obviously) and be done with it. The thing has a shoulder strap, and doesn't need to go in my purse!
(Okay part of it is also that I don't like hand guns, as I am not nearly as accurate with them. I'm much more comfortable with my AR.)
Um. Ok. I misunderstood your post. My bad, I apologize.
I've two weapons of choice I practice with, once I earn my Conceal Carry License I will choose between the two.
My sweet li'l Smith & Wesson M&P (Military & Police) .22 caliber, light as a feather, even with a loaded 12-round mag. Easily carried inside the tiniest of my Coach bags.
My wicked li'l Sig Sauer P-238 .380 short 9mm caliber Lady, easily carried in my pocket.
AR-15s are too conspicuous, kinda defeats the purpose of "Conceal Carry" if ya get my drift.
Yes, well, the only reason I went for a "conceal carry" permit is because FL doesn't have an open-carry permit. Otherwise a hip holster would do it too. I'm not concerned with concealing anything; I'm a pretty open person. And besides, who is going to mess with a woman who has an assault rifle strapped to her back? An armed society is a polite society! ;]
And YAY COACH! My bag is Coach too, and I love it. I used to buy nothing but walmart purses, because why spend more than $20? And then some coworkers pitched in to get me a Coach, and now I understand. It's two years old and still looks brand new, it's gorgeous and classy, and it will apparently last forever. Instead of, you know, having to buy a new purse every 3 months because walmart sells a lot of HAMSTER. :P
And yes, technically I could fit a handgun in it, but then I'd have to take a lot of other stuff out. I have a personal cell phone, a corporate cell phone, and an iPad, so I keep all the cables and cords for those three devices in my purse. I also have a solar charger and all of its connectors, and the charger for both my bluetooth earbuds - and that's just in the "technology" pocket! Also have one pocket full of "normal purse stuff" like hair brush, chapstick, Tide Stain Stick (Savior of my Shirts), pocket knife, etc. Then the third pocket is wallet, glasses, and my Gluten Free PDF (which I carry around copies of so I can hand out when needed). So yes, a handgun could fit, but what would I remove to make room?
*chuckles* Sounds like you should invest in a rolling carry-all for your "nerdy" stuff you tug along with your left hand, leaving your right hand free for your classy Coach bag with all the "essentials." Your personal protection items (btw, you forgot Pepper Spray), your Conceal Carry weapon, your essential ID items and credit cards, and lipstick.
All that other stuff you should put in a roll-around bag you can drop when self-defense is your first priority. Just a friendly FYI.
Actually, that's not a bad idea. I probably won't use a drag-along, but once I get my new gaming laptop (come on, tax return!) I may switch back to carrying a backpack. Not sure yet.
Truthfully? I'd rather be able to drop something from my left hand rather than having a heavy pack on my back when confronted by your garden-variety wackjob in a serious situation. Up to you, a backpack/purse sounds better than trying to carry everything in a large bag.
