well since STO started off as a subscription game it had the choice of a lifetime membership, now whether they offer a premium style subscription or just straight up cash shop has not been released yet so as far as a lifetime subscription goes its *shrug* we cant possibly know yet.

Neverwinter is a non-sub game. You can dowload for free. You can play for free. Anything you pay for is just "extra" stuff that may, or may not, be availible via game play. The is not sub. So there is no Lifetime Sub.
If you watch any of the streams, of press release game play, you will hear the Devs say that the "base game is free". When asked to say what you will be required to buy the Devs remain quiet. They may mention how fun the "base game" is to play. One even said they have not finalized what will be sold for money in the game.
So just to be sure you understand. Neverwinter, as of this current time, is a Free Game. There is no Subscription, or required purchase, to play the game when it is released. The game is in Closed Beta, and those who support the game now are granted a chance to play these Closed Beta Weekends. Otherwise the general masses can wait for the game to be released on a Date TBD.

There is no sub for Neverwinter online. You pay nothing to download the client. You pay nothing to play the core game.
the hero of the north pack is the lifetime sub equivalent.
The pack is a load of fluff items you buy for two hundred dollars. Nothing more. It's equivalent in real life would be....spending $200 on say....something completely irrelevant to your comfort or necessity.

Like a digital talking item that says "YEAH...I'M AWESOME!"
The fact that the Hero of the North have VIP login priority makes me incredibly skeptical that there won't be some form of VIP(sub) service option. Unless of course this is just a beta priority login and doesn't apply to the game at launch.
And by subscription I mean some nice benefits but nothing that makes it a requirement like DDO's various benefits between their Free, Premium, and VIP accounts. Quite a popular option in F2P games I've hear some say and see no reason why not to include it.
Neverwinter Online is a Free to Play Game from the Ground-Up! It is not a freemium game or a hybrid game. It is a Free to Play Game. Free to Download and Free to Play! There is no Subscription Model and therefore there are no Lifetime Memberships. Free to Play!
Yeah was actually trying to drill that into a "persons" head last night.
But...But the starters packs you have to pay for them!!!
"Yes...but you don't have to purchase them to play" But you have to pay for the starter pack
"No you don't"
Gamers just can't grasp the concept of optional.

No there wont be.
It's the equivalent of a founders pack.

Hope that is clear enough.

How often do they need to say this?

what now?
Like the rest of the packs.
When you literally can't play the game without stuff, then it's P2W, freemium required, etc.
