One weapon type per class? Is this true?

Read on another forum from someone who claimed to have played the game:

"guardian fighter MUST use longsword/shield.

and greatweapon fighter MUST use 2h sword.

no hammer, axe, mace, no nothing. only 1 weapon per class."

How accurate is this?

In my experience, newer versions of D&D never really limited weapons based on class. The only limitations from 4e are those that each power states: (ie: Deep Cut - Requirement: You must be wielding a light blade.).

Would be nice to know the facts about this for the game.

I read that too, which is why I inquired in the Fighter forum. As usual our Truth Seeker was being a bit Cryptic...funny how that works.

The utility require the weapon type to be locked. So GF will always weild a shield and one handed weapon.

Can that weapon be changed to 1 handed hammer? Maybe, maybe not.

Similarly GWF will always wield greatsword. Can he also wield greathammer, greataxe? maybe, maybe not.
    Can GWF wield longsword? No.

Remember it is beta, and even if they are not shown wielding greataxe, in release the GWF can still have greataxe and scythe (as both are 2 handed weapons).

I really hope if they are locking weapon types like this, that they allow for variations of weapons within that weapon category.

IE: Great Weapon - Greatsword, GreatAxe, Halberd, Heavy Flail, Falchion, Greatclub, etc etc

Game will feel REALLY limiting if it only allows you to just use ONE of those.

Now for the finishing blow, crypticmapolis had once said this earlier that he sees no reason why Great Weapon Fighter cannot wield other 2Handed weapons like scythe.

So we have 2Handed clubs, scythe, greataxe and greatsword for GWF!!!

(Greataxe because trailer and many pictures show it - plus earlier screenshots(year ago) show a dwarf GWF using greataxe in combat)

    Yayayayayayaya!

Let me mash thiss barrel of ale with greataxe and we can all bath in it!

Keep in mind that in MMOs, weapon art is one of the last things to be hooked up. So you may very well see things in a video that aren't actually the things they look like. There was art in STO that wasn't there until the week of launch.

Heck, there was art in STO that wasn't there until after launch. :)

    Are you serious?

Is this an immersive AD&D based RPG or an arcade game?

Heck, STO was missing something more important than that at launch - a playable game.

Okay, so looks like I broke my own golden rule...never judge an MMO until it launches. Beta's use way too many placeholder items to pass judgement. This is what happens when the gas station I get b-fast at is out of coffee. /Grumpy

Proof yet again that someone is basing the final product on alpha content.

They should find whoever this alpha leaker is and ban his IP :P
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

I don't really think it was someone who "played the game". Most probably it was just a speculation. It took me an hour to find the information.

If it was an actual player, he/she would have seen the loot dropped in game and would have already known that you can wield more than one weapon.

Probably 1 weapon per class. This is how it is in raiderz, tera, and other newer games. Even games like TSW and GW are pretty limited in how weapons work. It's a lame trend.

great weapon fighter seems not to be an issue...maybe guardian is - how does he stab with a hammer...so i guess the skill is the limiting factor...maybe they will also charge for other weapons to use? but if the weapon choice is so strictly limited, it will limit heavily the customiation options and probably also the appeal of the game

I think too many people have been assuming because things aren't there in the Alpha/Beta Stages they won't be in at launch.

Let me put it this way guys...
What is more important, balancing the class to work as it should or making sure every weapon type is available for every class?

The limited item selection is pretty standard for early testing phases. Other weapon and armor options are easily added and balanced later rather than focusing on balancing both parts at the same time. If people are more worried about whether a Scythe is better than a Greataxe which is better than a Greatsword or whatever then the feedback from the actual class gameplay would be much harder to manage.

I'm pretty sure we'll have all the options we want when options are important. For now we need to make sure the classes and game in general work properly.

on one hand youre right, on the other hand...this is kinda basic stuff that is in any game so even discussing its availability is really weird...it just seems that the devs are waaaaaaaaaaaaay behind their time line if that stuff isnt even in...

Rogue from level 1 to 29 only ever got daggers except for once I got a one hand axe but it was lower level and I npc'd it. I hope there will be more weapons added in the other betas or at launch at least.
