...but D&D without multiclassing is not D&D. Granted, 5 classes is not enough to justify multiclassing, but that's part of the problem, then, isn't it?
I don't care about getting a multiclass feat (that's not good enough).
I am not interested in hybrid classes (that's ridiculous).
I don't care what edition it is (although none of my friends will touch 4e with a standard 10-foot pole).
I have been playing the other D&D MMO for 6 years now, and while they recently changed the system so that it is not D&D anymore, either, at least they have limited multiclassing. Other than that, it's just a WoW clone, and so is this.
There are other new games coming out; you guys had better get your $#!^ together.

Um, Troll? Sorry, I couldn't help but reply. WoW clone? Hardly, have you ever played WoW? The Turbine D&D mmo has very little in common with WoW. And to be fair, NWO hasn't even hit beta yet, so it's a we bit premature to give up on it. Exhibit a modicum of restraint and patience, and wait to see how it plays before being such a troll.

First of all at currently we do not know how many classes will be available at release and likely more classes/races will be available sooner or later after release. You know I am WOW veteran I played it for 3.5 years, while a good game I certainly can use my money for other things then paying a sub fee.
In addition my casual brother would never want to play WOW again since it is to harcore in loot philosophy. Guild Wars 2 is to casual in loot policy for me. While unclear I suspect stronlgy that Neverwinter is not so hardcore as WOW but neither so casual as Guild Wars 2.
On top of that despite being free game I think graphics look ok! Maybe not state of the art but the fights will not have huge system requirements. Well then there is the FOUNDRY a tool for creators to create a lot of adventures!
It is true that we do not know almost anything about PvP but that will be known later. Regardless this is the game that I want to play together with my brother and a couple of real life friends. I am sure our group can find a nice guild also. WOTC support this project and quite frankly this is the game I look most forward during 2013. It helps that I am also Dungeons Dragons fan and both me and my brother have read many R.A Salvatore books. Everybody have their reasons but I sure got many reasons to be interested in this game.

HA! You should see what I had to say on Turbine's forums!
I will wait and see (what else am I supposed to do, exactly?), but the fact that it is based on 4e means that I will not be holding out hope.
OTOH, MWO is awesome...

Jester, meet the court. Court? Meet the jester.
That being said, I have my own concerns about NWO that have me mildly wary, but I intend to give the game the benefit of the doubt - even if it doesn't achieve exactly what I WANT it to achieve, there's a chance it'll be an enjoyable and entertaining experience regardless.
My major worry is that the big draw of 4th edition for me was that it virtually eliminates the "one man army' syndrome that was present in 3.0 and 3.5. No matter how optimized your character was, it was very difficult to become powerful enough to operate independently: attempting to be the proverbial Rambo and clear the entire encounter on your own merits was basically an invitation to face-plant. I enjoyed the tactical depth of 4e, and the fact that it actually forced you to use teamwork and cooperate in a meaningful way with your party members.
With the emphasis on making Neverwinter an Action-MMO, I expect to see the exact opposite of that design philosophy, where the majority of content can be steamrolled by any given class or build and actual teamwork and smart tactics are only reserved for the toughest of boss encounters, if at all.
So if I end up enjoying NWO, it won't be for the same reasons I enjoyed 4e D&D (which in turn are not the same reasons I enjoyed 3.5, which are not the same reasons I enjoyed 2nd, etc ad infinitum invoking every game system I've ever used). But I've made my peace with that, and remain hopeful that the game will bring its own unique dynamics into play.

Very thoughtful. Exactly my thoughts. Though I do hope for a few things in pnp implemented in MMO because it would be 'interesting'.

Have you played DDO lately? They changed the combat system; it is just like WoW.
I have actually. I play with a regular tonight actually. and I have not seen any changes that would make me lose interest. Sure it's not exactly as it began, but what is? And it's still not anywhere near WoW! Sorry, combat in DDO is one thing I like about it. The rest is a mixture of micromanagement and inventory hell. But it is still fun. Maybe try having fun with it some time? It is only as negative as you want it to be. Or stop playing and stop complaining? Either way. Plus it's free to play.
HA! You should see what I had to say on Turbine's forums!

Okay, I've read this point numerous times from numerous posters. What does based on 4e mean to most people? And where did you hear it was? Is it worded that way on their website someplace? Because to be honest, I look at the NWO webpage very little. I follow these forums and breath in as much details as I can gather from here instead. So maybe I'm uninformed? I've watched and read interviews where Cryptic tries to explain that it is "inspired" by 4e, but it is not 4th Edition. How else can you have a game like Neverwinter, based on what has happened in the Realms (spell plague), work with WoTC, and expect to dedicate the ruleset to 2nd Ed, or 3rd Ed? From what I've gleaned via dev interviews this is an action MMO, so many of the rules go out the window. What is left over is inspired. What is to be had is a "game" that takes place in Forgotten Realms, in and near the city of Neverwinter, at a point in Realm history that 4th Ed has changed the PnP rules... this is an action based MMO. I'm just not sure why people get hung up on editions of the PnP game. Don't worry, you still get to use your mouse, just like you did in EQ and WoW, like you do in any other MMO. It's just a dungeon delve game where you get to kick monster butt, run around in caves and dungeons, cast spells and swing swords. Oh, and make some friends and have fun. If you can't do this, then find a different game? Maybe? Just a thought.
Sorry, rant is over. Feel free to correct my opinion or set me straight on the rules. /rant

Well I can't blame the OP for not being a fan of 4th ed as a lot of long time gamers ditched the system when it went from 3.5 to 4th ed. 4th ed was very much MMO style and changed largely to push a system that promoted sales of thier miniatures. Heck Ive been playing and Running D&D almost all my life and I wasn't a fan of 4th ed either, Pathfinder was a far better system to carry on after 3.5 imo but that just me and my preference.
BUT that said OP, you can hardly blame PWE or Cryptic for making thier game 4th ed and then griping that multiclassing works like it works in 4th ed.. I mean as a 4th ed game why wouldn't it? lol Plyus its not like the previous editions multiclassing was any better and could ledn to some MASSIVE balance issues in the PnP let alone for an MMO. Multiclassing in 4th ed was one of the few changes I really liked personally.
Ser Alathor Crownguard, Cwelenas Alenuath, Dwarin Stonefist, Danaerys Hellborn
lol, Actually it does state that the game is to basd on the 4E rules and even encourages you to read up on them to get an understanding on what to expect. However..That being said... It does not mean the game will be "just like" playing D&D 4E over the table with your buddies. There is always a huge contrast to what you can do around the table and what the computer can do, the combat mechanics for instance wont be based on a die 20 system like the game. Abilities are adjusted to fit the computer concept so dont think if your a thief you'll see your self scaling walls anywhere ya want. All I think based off 4E means is just that! "based off" meaning you'll recognize abilities and feats, see the same classes and equipment found in the players hand book. If you watch the video's you know spells are rarely the way people imagine them in a table top game. Look at "Ice storm" I think it is in their latest video, I'm sorry but as I play, If im a caster type and ast Ice storm I am not imagining ice to pring out around me pushing ice cicles up from the floor, I imagine just what the name says.... storm! No game will ever be exactly like a table top RPG. only loosly based. Either you'll enjoy the game or you wont, but I would say at least give it a chance, and dont make your end all opinion of a game that hasnt even entered closed beta and is still in Alpha testing.. Its not even a game yet.. there is my two cents
You all have some valid points even the troll. DDO is much closer to WOW now than it ever was, 4e was an attempt to sell minis which is why I never got into it, this will be an mmo so how close to the rules it will play is up in the air and if they limit us to lo9cked build they WILL lose some people.
Still I will take a look at the game and see if it's fun, if it turns out to be Vindictus but with a FR background I sadly will probably move on to TESO or something.

Actually DDO now shares more in common with Themepark MMOs than they do at all with D&D, the D&D association is in name only now. It will even be more so when they release the enhancement overhaul. I can understand some tweaking of rules as it simply cannot be perfectly transcribed but they pretty much discarded all the rules now and there are more differences than similarities.
In all honesty DDO is in desperate need of a reboot like ANet did with GW2. If Turbine continues to conduct business as usual then they will be left in the dust in 2013 I think.
Now the NWN 1&2 PWs.... now those are the real D&D online. They stay true to the rules and can DM events. Turbine and Cryptic can learn a thing or two from that community.
It absolutely blows my mind that people on this forum do not realize by now that NWO is just using D&D lore and assets, not the table top style game play.
This is an Action MMORPG that just happens to be using the Forgotten Realms universe.
This is flat out wrong. D&D didn't even have multi-classing for at least a decade when it was created.
What defines D&D is roleplaying. Before D&D there was Chainmail, which was a tactical war game similar to video games today, when people started acting out their roles, the game was transformed into a new game altogether.

Howdy,
While we appreciate your feedback on Neverwinter, we must ask that all such feedback be done in a way that is constructive and promotes civil discussion. Because of this lack of promoting civil discussion in a constructive way and the use of profanity, I am closing this thread.
