Stacking issues

deanski07deanski07 Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 102 Arc User
I am really getting tired of multiple things that are exactly the same IE: Coalescent wards bound to account, scrolls of life and mass scrolls bound to account, but there is like 3 in each category that you just cannot stack together even though you cannot see any difference in them. I mean WHY??? Can you guys not address this issue? It has been like this for a long time.

Because they aren't the same behind the curtain.

That only raises the question of Why aren't they the same?

A previous answer was along the lines of "because they come from different places and it's useful to the game/devs to keep track of that separately"... but that quickly gets us back to "why can't they stack anyway?".

    Hello @deanski07,

Unfortunately, this issue cannot be addressed because these items are technically different. It’s related to the way the game works.

    Regards,

However, can you at least give them different name such as Preservation Ward 1, Preservation Ward 2, .....?
Since they are "different", please make them "different".
It is just painful to find which stack of Preservation Ward to stack to.

I keep the stacks in the shared bank so that I can stack lone item when I get one. They are all account bound. It would be better (for me) to see different name/icon so that I can stack the lone item to the right stack easier.

Be easier, as well, if we could just double-click them into the shared bank instead of the personal bank.

Just remove all item binding in the entire game xD

Well, that does not change the underline item number problems. Now, instead of 3 stacks I can identify using the word 'Account' or 'Character', I will see 6 (or more) identical stacks of P-wards instead of current 3 (or more) identical. And, the 'removed' binding item will be a new item and will have yet another item number.

I said remove all binding from the game. No bound to character exist, no bound to account exist, no bound to anything ever. All things just one thing, u can do with it what you want to, use it or give it away/sell/trade, use it then take it out and then give it away/sell/trade. Then there would only be one stack of everything. Binding is a stupid concept anyway which does nothing to help the players. For things like mounts and companions I do understand that they face issues that once it is equipped to a character it's just too hard to take it off again using the current system because it affects so many stats under the hood, so they could stay the same concept (except nothing is bound to character or account in the first place and all are tradeable) but they don't stack to begin with so it doesn't apply to this thread. Just unbind everything and make them all one thing and stop this stupid binding rubbish once and for all, it gives us all a headache for no gain.

Obviously, all things is not just one thing. Account bound itself has many variants. No bound will also have many variants. That is how Cryptic works. It does not solve the stack issue until they make it no variants. Variants is not a bound type issue. They made multiple variants for a reason.

There is more than one stack issue.
    1. different variants
    2. different max stack size
    3. non-stackable when it should such as Celestial Bag of Refining, various overload enchantment, stone of health, ...

The reason they are different is because of the binding/because they are bound in the first place. It's a digital item with an identifier. All u do is change all the identifiers to the same thing. If u have something "account bound" and "character bound" and "unbound" it is only the identifiers of it which are different. And it is the identifiers which make them bound or unbound and to whom. A pres ward is just a pres ward. But we have variants of that due only to the existence of binding. Take away binding and there is no difference between them and they all stack.

At the end of the day it's all digital code and you can do anything in a digital world you want to if the will is there, it's only 1's and 0's and it's instructions the system reads and follows which are written by a person. They can make any item anything they want including how they stack and it's not at all complicated. The complicated part is that they don't have the will to do it and also don't have the time to bother about it.

At which point they can no longer track items to their source. Which was the reason we were given as to the different item stacks, in the first place.

The Bags aren't meant to be hoarded. The newer overloads do stack, if they are full on time. Stone of Health probably falls in the same reasonings as the p-wards.

I consider stone of health is another beast. Stone of health has a charge count within the item (like timer within overload).
It is one item with N charges instead of N items with 1 charge each. P-ward is 1 charge each. A stack of N p-ward is N items with 1 charge each.
The charge count has the cyan color number vs number of item count that has white number.

e.g. these are all single item without stacking. The cyan number is the charge count.

I would say the charge number (cyan color) should be moved to the top half of the icon and add number of item number (white color) to the bottom half. This way, the stone of health will be stackable. However, the icon will be covered by numbers.

Or, get rid of the charge number and need to check the charge in the tooltip (like checking the timer of the overload). But, many will not like that.

Life would be easier if they implement stone of health like p-ward. i.e. N items with 1 charge each. This way, it will be stackable and easier to implement. And, there will not be Purple, Orange, Cyan color of health of stone. Health of stone will be like potions but can be stacked to higher number instead of just 99 (current potion limit).

I wouldn't mind if the potion stacks got a boost.

They can pretty much do it with everything. More a matter of "will they/won't they".

I guess "they won't". For me, I am a hoarder. The account/character/unbound limitation bother me the least in inventory management. The variants is the next level. The highest level of inventory issue I have is the stack size. Sure, they can do that with like Profession materials. No, they don't.

    Hence,

Removing bound. Removing variants will not reduce inventory space above.

Yes, it is a hoarder's problem. No, I will never use them all regardless how many characters I want to build.

I tend to keep 2 stacks unbound. When a stack gets full, I either move it to guild storage for people that might need them, auction them, or mulch them.

Bound I keep one stack of rare.

Just imagine... if they stacked to 999 like lockboxes, that Dragon Hoard bag would only have 3 slots filled.

I have been dreaming (and lobbying that in the forum in various occasions) that for a long time and that is why I said the "The highest level of inventory issue I have is the stack size".

I agree with you in here, these Health stones are used a lot by tanks.

A tank has not always enough time (due his/her role) to replace a stone during combat, so they load a new stone mostly before a combat but ends up with a lot of almost depleted stones in bag with NO possibillity to recharge them to full amount (like you can do with potions) by just dropping them on top of eachother..
And ends up with simply deleting the almost depleted stones to free up bag space

I have brought this thing up multiple times in the past but never have seen any reaction from Devs about this.
It's about time they take time to look intoo this.
