Most groups are formed within guilds and alliance imo. But if you want to group with certain types of players, you can always be the one that starts a group. If people want to have super high requirements, they are welcome to it, if they want more casual, they are welcome to that as well. Be the change you want to happen.
I agree completely. I have been eligible to run ancients for some time, but have been running adult dragons just to get more people able to run the ancients. It's not entirely altruistic, I admit: the more people able to run ancient dragons, the easier it will be to quickly form groups to do more ancient hunts.

I would encourage people to run young to reach 15 so that one can reach ancient faster. Not much point to wait for the queue/people to do adult if what they really want is to do ancient. If the adult queue pops fast enough or having private party available quickly, sure. If the 'delay' is because of adult queue, doing young will be a lot faster and always available.
*** The game can read your mind. If you want it, you won't get it. If you don't expect to get it, you will. ***
Have not had a problem solo queuing for the adult dragons. I did this first with my DC healer and it was pretty much easy as long as my toon did not die.
I also did this with my two primary DPS types and 90% of the time it was successful even when they used the reduced offense and defense modifier which for some reason got used a lot in my random ones and most of the time it was just 3 DPS types.
I have failed with a healer as well but that was because I got CC'd forever and did not get revived. The other two were DPS that were not good enough to finish it without a healer or tank. All other times when it did fail for me it was with a 3 DPS crew and pretty much always with the black dragon. I guess that means that all the other dragon types are just easier.
Based upon what I have seen so far it is usually an easy finish with a healer or tank present that knows their job.
In terms of IL I never have any idea what the other two players IL's are and do not care as I just presume we will succeed regardless of what their IL is because I know that as long as at least one of them is also capable of surviving to the end we will finish it.
As far as Ancient dragons are concerned, no idea but that is not solo play for sure and I believe you do need to take IL into consideration although I am not sure just how powerful you need to be to ensure a higher than normal rate of success.

That is all well and good if the primary concern is being eligible to run ancient dragons. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to get an ancient run invite for lower geared characters, and with adult runs you can often complete them faster than soloing a young dragon, especially if you don't have a dps paragon path loadout available. Plus you can always get a couple of rare dragon parts guaranteed in an adult hunt if someone has the modifiers. Since tanks seem to be in short supply for ancient runs, it seems sensible to quickly rank those up to run those hunts.

Yes, whatever that is suitable for the individual. I brought that up because there were people who thought they could not do ancient until they finished all the adults. They thought that way because other people told them so. They did not know they could do young.

It is also worth noting that until you reach rank 50 dragon hunter, you can rank up without doing a single ancient hunt. That might be a good option for those lower IL characters that struggle to get an ancient group invitation.

Dumb question. Where do I find my dragon hunter rank?

>I don't mind grouping with people to run the occasional instance but mostly I started Neverwinter because it was ranked #1 for solo play. I've done all the events that get replayed every year so a new module is what gets me playing. The last one could be done complete solo except the new Trial. Not all gear was great, but some of it was pretty good. Previous modules were similar, I didn't feel compelled to always have to group up. Well this one is different. I solo'd about 20 Dragons so far (and a couple in Dragon Well) but that really isn't useful even with a modifier. I did a few Adult Dragons in random and they were challenging as 1 person was always much lower DPS. So I figured time to try Ancients. Spent a lot of time grinding W.O.D. while in random queue, finally baled. My current guild was pretty barren since the mass exodus of the last year or so. I changed guilds. Seems they already have a core group so I'm thinking about jumping again... Then I realized solo play is pretty much gone. If I want better gear I need Ancients and 4 other people. I need to schedule around 25 minutes with 4 other people several dozen times a week for the next few months if I want to go after most or all the mythic gear. So I'll wait a couple weeks and see if there are any changes that allow solo play to be productive and cut down on needing a group constantly when I play. If you are in a guild already and have a core group, good for you! Please say how wonderful it is to whomever is left to listen. The average players will NOT be able to random Ancients with their gear and the fact people will give up on multiple wipes. Thus creating the smaller haves vs the have nots. Other MMOs may have you group up for instances/raids 2x or so a week, but solo play is still viable. This game basically became a true multi-player only game. I hear my old Lich King friend is making a return so I may cut my losses..
.
Neverwinter best solo play rpg mmo? Where did you read/hear that? While this game is good for casual players, even then the best game in this regards is Guild Wars 2, which is considered best game for casuals for like 3+ years.
Neverwinter is storry telling theme park rpg mmo game, so sotry arc is not hard to do solo. But, other part of game are dungeons, skirmishes and trials. And that's not a solo play. One of main way to get Astral Diamonds are doing daily random q's. And that's not solo either. So how could Neverwinter be best Solo play game?? Answer, you where scammed.
Now as for dragon hunt, I found your comment rather interesting.
There are three type dragon hunts, baby for solo fight, adult for small group (x3 players) and ancient for full party( x5 players). For solo players baby version is best, easy option. While adult is desing for x3 players it can be done solo too, but this serve for players who seek more a chalenge. Ancient in other hand was never meant to be solo. Not only damage gap between adult and acient is different, but also there are certain mechanics which only appear during Ancient dragon fight.
Now obviously baby version does not seem a chalenge, untill you start add modifiers. And here is may reason why I think this hunt is great. Bigger chalenge = more reward. Or in other words, want better reward, then you have pick a harder fight. If you don't want extra chalenge and want easy/quick fights, then simply don't use modifiers. But then you don't get additional reward, you will get just basic ones.
To expect so so devs either adjust ancient to be done solo kills whole hunting system. Also what's about players who like dragon fight for a party. ? Should devs ingore them just to please you? I don't want be rude, but here is cold fact. While story line of this game is solo play and you are main character there, when comes mmo part, you are yet just another player, just like everyone else. In short Neverwinter is not single player Online.
You have also mentioned that your guild is no longer active. So what? Have you looked to /zone or /lfg chats while in protector enclave? Any time I am in PE I can always see that in chat someone forming ancient dragon hunts. Also, add trusted players in friendlist, so you would not have to stay with pugs. Establishing connections is one of main elements of mmo.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I fully agree that having the hunts set up in this manner is truly excellent design. I, for one, don't think I should be getting parts for mystic armor from solo (or as you say, "baby") dragons.
My personal issue is that, after the initial questline, ancients are required for the campaign currency.

I personally would like similar like system implemented for dungeons..
As for mythic gear.. The ancient dragons mechanics are not so complicated. Also I think for too long game was focused on content which could be done solo.
This is one of reasons why players come and go. Players come to play mmo and find non mmo, non rpg game. Also making solo play make certain class/build population become irrelevant. I mean, ok lets say you can solo as dps. What's about healer? The current hunt system require you to have healer, and tank. So players who play as heal or tank don't get discriminated.

I can't seem to figure out why they went with the 1/3/5 design. This means all dragon types are about the same time commitment while the lesser ones offer substantially fewer rewards. Don't get it. It would make more sense if you opened up all dragon types to a full party and then lesser geared players could still earn currency for their mythic gear pieces from adult and baby dragons, just at a much much slower pace.
I also do not like that campaign completion is gated behind ancient dragons. I get it's scaled to 22k, but what character at 25k has the ability to stack up decent percentages? Exactly. I like the idea of a campaign completion being a group thing, but baby and adults should also contribute.
So I have to grind ancient dragon hunts to advance the campaign? On every alt?
Yeah, no. Hard pass on that one. That's a campaign I don't see myself ever completing.
Good thing there is only one boon and a few titles.
I looked at the campaign rewards and thought wtf myself, but I think you have to consider the "On the Wings of Dragons" addon as well. Both hand out more than enough rewards compared to M20 and M22. Boons is weird though, but maxed out characters at this point can only spend points on rather useless stuff anyway.

Not really. The "Dragonslayer" campaign will stay for a long time. The "On the wings of dragons" has limited time (Aug 22). If you start after Aug 22, what you can do is only Dragonslayer.
The Dragonslayer is per character. Each character will need to get 560 Dragon's ridges to complete it. That will involve many Ancient dragon for each character.
"On the Wings of Dragon" is per account. You only need to do 20 Dragon Hunt (can be all Young Dragon) for the whole account to get to the end by Aug 22.
So, most will finish "On the Wings of Dragon" but skip Dragonslayer. For those who do Dragonslayer probably care about getting the equipment more than completing Dragonslayer.
*** The game can read your mind. If you want it, you won't get it. If you don't expect to get it, you will. ***
Dragonslayer for sure is nothing you do on alts. The rewards are so bad that you take what you get as byproduct of doing your ancient farms for gear. In regards of time-limited campaigns: I'm a big proponent of that kind of stuff. If people miss out they miss out. There should be unique rewards for continuously putting time into a game. I get why they do it, but I also do not like that some older event rewards tend to pop up on the ZEN market. Completely takes away their historical and sentimental value.
