I tried with 1% mote, do you really need 450 preservation to raise an enchantment? Are we kidding right? I tried to put 3 for each slot. Obviously, failing me, he burned them all but the count only increased by 3/150 and not by 9/150, why? Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration 450 preservation for an enchantment? We can leave out the gold but there are still 300 preservation. It costs less to use a coal.
I hope it's a bug and not intended. Unfortunately I can't make less than 150 attempts, if I want to protect everything it costs me well 450 preservation.

2. You don't have to protect all 3.
3. If it works properly, it should randomly take one of the 3 items when it fails. If the item is protected by the p-ward, it takes that p-ward. Taking all 3 p-wards is a bug.
4. Using p-wards at this stage before the bug is fixed is waste of p-ward. So, don't use p-ward for now.
If I protect everything, I cannot burn all the wards in the 3 slots, only the failed one, chosen randomly, should burn.
Frankly, I have not upgraded anything. I have not exchanged anything. I am still stay put to see how they are going to fix stuff. If I want to verify something, I go to the preview server.
My own rule of thumb is: do not do/invest anything significantly until at least one week after a new mod launched. I have followed my own rule for a few mods already. Sure, I also missed all the 'free' stuff which may or may not get you ban.
I have reported this bug multiple times, on both preview and live.
I have seen it acknowledged a total of ZERO times.
The fact that they made these significant changes to the enchantment and refinement systems, and here we are, 10 days after mod launch, and the refinement system still has these HUGE bugs that have not even been ACKNOWLEDGED.
It makes the use of anything other than coal motes useless. Why would you even bother to use something like a 5% mote?
If you put pres wards against all 3 items, you can lose up to 3x pres wards on EACH attempt.
Cheaper to use coal.

Noworries replied in the live stream that they don’t expect us to use wards to protect every item, which still doesn’t respond this question.
Why would I lose a preservation ward in the case where it is not really protecting that particular item? It is indeed confusing and clearly looks like a bug, even after reading many of the official posts about refinement changes.
I hope the devs give this a second thought and change it to only waste your ward when it is protecting the specific reagent.
