Mount (horse) just dumps me off as soon as I try to mount it, ever since I got it

Both my daughter and I joined Neverwinter a few weeks back (different locations of the town we live in, different computers), never having played before. We both got the free mount around 3rd level or so? I am now level 25, she is level 13. We both equipped our mounts. They then show up under the hotkey of “7”.

When we both push 7, it looks like we are getting on a mount and then it disappears in puff of smoke over and over and over and dumps our characters face down to the ground. I could spend hours pushing 7 over and over and over again and get the same result. So could she. This happens literally anywhere in the game, at any time. I can reproduce it for any developer who wants to join me in game for 10 seconds to watch.

I thought maybe it was a level restriction initially, but at level 25?

Is anybody else having this problem???

There is a ticket sent to the dev's as a bug: #310160 but nobody has touched base with me about it. Baldur's Gate 3 is kicking off next week. If something as fundamental as getting on a mount is broken in this game, maybe it's time to move on instead of investing any more time into this.

That has nothing to do with your level. I can do the mount in level 4. I saw this kind of behaviour many years ago. That usually was connection issue. At that time, I interpreted that as: you did the mount, the server somehow did not pick that information up. Then, later, the server feedback and tell the client the character is not on the mount. The client program takes you off the mount.

Baldur's Gate 3 would be a better choice because you should not need to worry about connection issue much. In addition, you have not invested much to this game anyway. It is easier to switch now than later.

Hello! I'll pass on this info to the rest of the team for investigation - Thank you for providing the ticket number so we can also circle back with support.

Hi @khelben#8144! Do you have a mount speed slotted? That is the primary cause of being dismounted right away.

Just an FYI, BG3 coming out next week is not the full game. Its like an open alpha/beta that you have to pay for.

Hi @nitocris83 Sorry to have to phrase this as such, but can you explain what speed slotted means? I didn't assign it, but it shows up on the playing screen to where I can push 7 on the keyboard to mount. If this isn't what you mean, can you explain further?

its on the mount power screen itself where you pick / " slot "if he runs or trots and ( his attack power is also the 7 key if the mount is high enough level ) ..you could try switching running and trotting and see if that does anything or if it was blank (causing) the bug

the keyboard hot key (number 7 ) assigned to mount / mount attack is not what she was referring to. tho you could try changing that in options as a test too ..if above fails

is this a training mount or free mount maybe its bugged after they did they mount updates the other week try getting another cheap blue or green one /from a guild member /sympathetic person in game

Type C. Choose "Mounts" tab. Choose 'Current' tab. You will see 4 rectangles on the right. The blue one (the 4th one) is for speed. Choose 'Gallop'.

    The first one is appearance.
The 2nd one is mount power.
The 3rd one is Equip power
    The 4th one is speed.

@plasticbat ding ding ding! Thank you so much! It was empty. By adding Trot or Gallop, it worked perfectly. So apparently having it blank caused it. I guess it's not a bug per se, but just poor UI communication. It would be so simple for it to pop up a message "can't mount horse without a speed designated". The game set the other 3 with defaults when I got the horse, but not the 4th. This game really lacks adequate feedback loops built into it. Like, I literally just discovered I have 29 insignia's gathered from the tower district. Everything points to me giving these to a bounty master. But I tried everything I can think of to do so and nothing works. If you are supposed to gather insignias and give them to him, why isn't there an obvious tab for it, or a menu option when you talk to him? The learning curve on this game must have driven away so many new users... it's really kind of sad. All I want is to just run through all the modules and experience what's in the books they correspond with. I don't understand why the basic stuff has to be so difficult. Get a horse, get on horse to go faster than walking. That should simply work the second you get a mount without needing to understand all those other options. Thank you again!

    your welcome .......*shrugs*

@kalina311 I'm sorry! Your help was appreciated too, but when I read it, I still didn't really understand the terms "mount power screen" and / slot and other things yet. plasticbat spelled it out in much more detail about how to get there, and once I did, then your suggestions made a bit more sense. Please don't take offense. This was the first of a hundred things that I *still* don't get, it was just the most frustrating I guess. I just wish there was a "Neverwinters for Dummies" Guide. Everything I look up on Google or YouTube goes from simple to complicated in a few seconds. I've resigned myself to just trying to play through everything without understanding I guess and hope I can progress with minimal dying. I don't get the refining astral diamonds thing or anything else. I just want to be able to play it like Diablo: pickup better weapons and armor and spells as you go, discard/sell old and just *experience* the modules. Everything else is just so tedious and feels like work instead of fun.

Thank you to everyone who helped and we appreciate the feedback @khelben#8144! Better understanding pain points or player experience is very useful to us.
