Came back, was having fun.. then Ghost Stories.. ><

For the love of all that's holy make that a scaling dungeon. Or lower it to the level of the rest of the campaign so it can actually be done. It just doesn't fit at that level. I could almost get through parts of it solo at 68 as priest, but those mobs inside.. no fricken way. Everytime I start to have fun I try that and get so pissed off I quit again. It's just NOT FUN. As a side note, I did see that Cloak tower is finally back YAY.

    a level 68 DC should not be having problems there...to me it sounds like you are undergeared, your build is wrong (should be DO Righteous for solo play) or you are using the wrong powers.

    Or, just team up with someone else.

    Many people group up to run Ghost Stories.
    Watch for messages in Neverdeath zone chat.
    You want to take out the two Green dragonborn guys first* in the end fight, they are the ones that shoot the AoE root attacks.

    *taking out the green guys first is good strategy for the whole zone anytime you run into them

    There are no Dragonborn in Ghost Stories. Only one lizard. The greens are Cult of the Dragon Dragonclaw archers.

    I have to disagree about the build suggestion. My primary DC is AC Virtuous when soloing, and I find that being a healbot makes it a lot easier for her in tough content. It takes longer to kill things, but they can hardly scratch her.

    Taking damage isn't an issue so long as you're the one standing at the end of the fight.

    The fact remains, we don't know what @fireopal3 build looks like, so I can't comment on that. But all my level 70's have no problem running solo through GS. I seldom do GS unless asked along by someone. Without knowing their gear, companions, mounts, build, etc. my only advice to fireopal3 is to ask for assistance when needed.

    I disagree that GS is supposed to be some kind of cakewalk for a natural level 68. It really isn't.

    You should see a big difference if you return after level 70 though. All of those crawls - GS, the Mithral Mines, that other one in Whispering Caverns - they're all a lot easier with level 70 gear, stats and powers.

    While the archers can be problematic, personally I focus on those footsoldiers - the Black Dragonclaws, and kill them quick before they go supersized. Two or three of those guys stabbing you in the head will ruin your day but good.

    DC's a good class for those dungeons because most of the enemies tend to stand in a group and you can dash in and unload your entire nuclear arsenal on them all at once. When you're down to the last one or two, take some time to build up your divinity charges so you can bum rush the next group too.

    I agree with fireopal3, Ghost Stories is way too hard -compared- with others of the same class. I know many ppl dont do it because of that and I always see ppl asking for party to enter there. Same thing happens in the WoD where there are 3 quests that lead you to instances that are also way too hard.
    Let me be clear, I dont want them to be easy but they are way too hard -and I repeat- compared with the others of the same category. Especially for newcomers are a pain. Mostly they dont have the experience nor the right setup and most important they mostly dont have good gear to run them. In such cases, entering those places with low level gear is a repited suicide and that's very frustrating. No fun at all.
    An easy solution could be to make them possible to queu (K) putting a warning in them to make them in a party.

    Every mod, there is something harder to solo comparing with the rest. Ghost story, Biggrin, Need for Mead, Cult Prison, Kabal, House of Crocodile (the quest version). I personally don't see a problem with them and these are self checking time to see if your character are ready for the next level. Of course, the easy way out is to do that with a party. Another way is to keep doing it (after upgrade/improve/etc) until you can't. I only chose the latter way.

    The issue is that GS and similar are now designed to accommodate lvl 70 chars but people get those quests way before they reach that high.
    It is not a question of build or gear as the lvl 73 mobs tend to wipe the floor with anyone of lower level/it takes forever if you are tanky enough.

    With that said to party up is usually a sole solution till you reach lvl 70 and then gear up with chult weapon and gear.

    Back when I first entered the Well of Dragons, I recall how they asked me to do different tasks there. One of them was the infamous Cult Prison or CP. Although I managed to get to the warden, I could not kill him by myself. All I did was step outside and ask, "Can someone help me with the Cult Prison?" I had a full party in no time at all. To this day, I avoid it like the plague, the fighting area is tiny and the boss is very hard. There are some areas that you can avoid and others that you can't. Ghost Stories is an area with such a small reward of 1 page of lore. You can get Defeating Cult Dragon and kill Charthraxis for 10 pages of lore. Just don't try to beat him yourself, shout out the arrival time in zone chat 3 minutes before his arrival and players will smoke the smoker.

    One and two-shotting everything will make your life far easier, so I’d strongly recommend preparing a DPS-focused loadout even if “healbot” is your favored style.

    A DPS loadout with Repurpose Soul provides ridiculous healing even without factoring in Divine Glow’s HoT. Running AC Virtuous as a solo spec is going to test your patience as mob HP and defense increases drastically outpace your DPS progression in late-game content.

    I don't think OP will come back. He already said he quit. If one quit for the first sight of trouble, this game is really not for him because that is no fun for him. There are more down the road.

    A guild member gave me some of the best advice, either bring in another player to help or wait till you a much higher level, will reduce the frustration but can still challenge, but don't wait till you have all artifacts you can have, then it won't be fun. You do have to admit that taking down one of the enemies who kept killing you is a great feeling.

    I haven't done GS for a long time, but I do remember what a headache it was. I didn't have trouble anywhere else I was doing for my level, but that place was a nightmare and there was no way I could ever solo it when it was given to me first as a daily quest, while I could solo everywhere else fine at that stage. After a while I was able to do it solo, but by then I had moved on to other places higher up. The only way I was ever able to do it when I really was required to for the campaign tree, was to join-up with others, and there were always people asking in chat to join for it. I think sometime the devs like to intentionally push the game into a more social group thing, it could be that GS was just meant to be something u had to group up for on purpose and they wanted it to be harder. In the case of GS it was definitely a group effort to get it over with for almost everyone when I did it, it was normal for people to have trouble with it and have to ask in LFG.

    They were designed for level 60 characters when Mod4 came out and like every mod, were solo content. During the Elemental Evil rework of the game, for some reason the studio made the instances level 70 but retained the quests being given out when a character hits level 60. As should be no surprise to anyone who's seen the leveling the dungeons, the scaling just doesn't work. If you are under level 70, the mobs just don't take that much damage from your attacks and you take too much from theirs. If you are decently geared and level 70, then soloing them is trivial. If not, then grouping up is the best strategy, not because they are intended for groups but because they weren't designed for YOU despite the quest being given below 70.

    Ghost Stories was and is by far the hardest of the lairs due to the fact that most packs of Tyranny mobs have two or even three elites and GS expands on this by adding the titular ghosts. It is also annoying in that if you have only unlocked GS, the campaign is going to ask you do it every single day until you unlock the next zone, and a fair amount after that.

    I also found Ghost Stories way harder than I thought it should be at the level it was supposed to be playable (according to the game designation) at least solo...

    That's why I often enlisted the assistance of friends and guild members - or just noted Zone Chat until someone in Neverdeath went "LFG GS"... you play and you learn.

    Of course now that I've been through it a few times my survivability has increased when I attempt to run GS with a new character and I still rarely try to solo it at the level Neverwinter recommends, but then for me there was a lot of content Neverwinter said I should be able to do at a certain level that I found daunting, especially solo. So I just learned to ignore the suggested 'do this at this level' and only attempted things when I felt more confident in my gear, tactics and ability.

    That's what has worked the best for me.

    I have 70LvL characters to hard...and to expensive (zen for Scroll of Life)!
