Lesser Identification and Identification Scrolls broken.

venranvenran Member Posts: 24 Arc User
Lesser Identification and Identification Scrolls seem to be looking at "Item Level" to determine if they can be used to identify an item instead of "Required Level". A Required Level 10 Green (Item Level 30) item can not be identified with a Lesser Identification scroll, it takes an Identification Scroll now. The same thing is true for Identification scrolls a required lvl 29 Blue Item (Item Level 87) could not be identified by either a Lesser Identification Scroll or Identification scroll. It took a Greater.

This stinks for new players and existing players who have started new characters because they cannot identify dropped items to upgrade from their existing items.

I have a new level 33 character with a full inventory (three bags) of unidentified items, many of them upgrades to my current armor and weapons, but since I can't ID them I can't use them and my character is supposed to go to increasingly difficult areas with substandard weapons and armor... not good.

I was told there was a previous bug where Lesser Scrolls of Identification could have been used to ID any item and problem existed for months, I presume this latest "bug" is the developer's way of attempting address that issue which in turn created another issue. I just hope this isn't another issue that takes months to correct.

I have been told that Greater Scrolls of Identification still work and will identify any level of item, but for new and low level players needing to identify low level items with bound scrolls provided by the game spicifically for that purpose, necessitating them having to purchase Greater Scrolls of Identification when they often don't yet have the means to do so this isn't really a workable solution for them.

Here's a thought, in the non-MMO Neverwinter games there was one level identification scroll that would ID any item, also many merchants would be able to ID an item for a fee (I believe it was 100 coins), perhaps something like that should be considered.

Hello there,

To make things exceedingly short I also have this issue with my new character a moon elf wizard level 21, I've only been playing a few days now and just recently bought the "Knight of Feywild Pack" for 49,99€ I'm currently in Blackwood the forested area and so far have just been selling all my identify scrolls and green items, though I've kept the two blue ones. :)

This explains why my item rating is 3x something.

I only started playing neverwinter a couple of days ago and this bug is really hampering my progression. I'm having to rely on white gear and quest reward gear as I progress

If this is going to take a long-time it sure would be nice if they would, at least, turn off the requirements for identification. Another possible solution would be to expand bag slots or banking slots so unidentified items can be stored until this is fixed.

It's unfair for us to lose out on possible upgrades because or increased sale value we cannot identify them. I might as well stop playing.

Still broken for me. Going to wait until it is fixed to play. No point in trying to loot gear you cant use or sell for full price.
• aurum#9480 aurum Member Posts: 2 New User
Still broken for me as well, :( come on Arc games this isn't good for your company's reputation and the customer service players should not have to ask to get a bug fixed nor should they wait longer then a couple of days. ;)

Identify scroll not working, lvl 59 bound and unbound don't work on lvl 30 gear. I paid for 6 months of game play and I can't play because all of my bags are full. What a joke. No way to report it either through support and live chat doesn't work anymore. Getting the distinct impression that ARC is out to screw people to make a profit.

I have same issue, but only happening to one of my characters. The others appear to be okay. I logged a support ticket, but cannot see the support ticket in my ticket history in-game? Strange

Similar issue. Started a new character last week, and I have not yet seen any loot drops of identification scrolls other than the lesser scroll. I'm having to burn Astral Diamonds to get Greater Scrolls. I was wondering if that was a quirk of running a Cleric, but I'm seeing a lot of people having similar scroll issues. I have not checked my older characters to see if it is persistant. I would, of course assume by now LVL25 monsters should not be loot dropping lesser scrolls of identification *and* loot dropping LVL60+ items.

Here's a great idea that I'm sure the developers thought of, but why not just make only one type of scroll that handles everything? I don't really see the point mechanically of flavorwise in having 3 types of scrolls which all do basically the same thing.
• absolutezero#0998 absolutezero Member Posts: 1 New User
this bug is not matter of ID scroll, but droped items (unidentified). I found that this items's price is 1s 10c. this price is for 60lv over items, not below 59lv items. (2c). You can see that these bugged items are priced at 1s 10c (Even though it is below 59lv)

By having different tiers of scrolls it allows them to give them to the new characters cheap and yet charge more AD for the higher level ones. :-)

I really wish they would give us a better answer than just "We know and we are looking into it". It is my understanding this is not the first time they have broke the scrolls. It has quickly impacted the quality of the game for many new players.

> Well I was going to get back into the game, but now it's pointless. Looks like you screwed up again, PWE. This should have been a top priority fix above anything else and should have been hotfixed immediately. Now new players have no reason to even try the game. I wish some COMPETENT company would get these IPs and not these Chinese people who clearly are overly greedy and don't know what they're doing. Y'all need to learn that game-breaking bugs should be first priority, but I doubt you people will learn until you're out of business, which I hope happens sooner than later at this rate.
>
> Also your rules about not being able to use in game chat until you are halfway through the game is COMPLETE BS and utterly ignorantly stupid.
>
> The only way to really make up for this is to get rid of the chat limitation, have ONE scroll of identification type (stop trying to profit off something so basic), and compensate for this nonsense with extra week on all events.

Playing devil's advocate here to some degree: First off, they know EXACTLY what they are doing. They are like this in Asia, they are accostumed to have a cash flow get in because of games. And oh boy, did our region(s) bought into that being mindless about it! They know exactly they're milking people's money being HAMSTER. And sure, people complain, but in the end for so many years they have backed up/supported the games economically so the companies don't give a HAMSTER. This is first point.

Second point is, chat restriction and other things until you reach certain level, is to prevent spammers, gold sellers, etc. I find this to be a bit annoying as a new player but I understand it as well, and not having this issue is MUCH more rewarding to say the least. Also it makes sense, so they can keep you in the game. I don't see a problem with this. It forces you to play to a certain level and finish certain campaign quests, thus all the gold spammers won't "waste" the time to level up characters up to 20 or something just to spam their gold page. It's good. In fact, is GREAT, much better than Trion's way of "spend 5 dollars on your account to unlock chat".

Third and last point is, while I hate this bug and is annoying as hell as a new player to the game entirely and it boggles my mind that they had 3 maintenances in a row each day and still haven't fixed it, I still can't complain much. In the end, it is a free-to-play game, first off, and is quite a good/entertaining one to be honest. Coming from every other F2P mmo out there that I could play (RPG style) this has been the most interesting on playstyle overall and gameplay with things to do along the way. I also asked on Reddit about this, and someone told me not to worry since the quest items / white items are enough to reach level 70 without any major hiccups and so far, it's been true. And I don't know about other people, but I am tired of quitting games because they suck / have many restrictions at low-mid level. I was planning to reach last level on this game and try end game, I set myself to it and I am going to do it because I have been having a blast so far, withing reasonable annoyances like this one. If you're going to quit the game or not play it for a bug that doesn't affects in a major way your LEVELING (because that's what it is, is not the late game or something really important), then don't play it, but also don't complain.

Now, with all that said, Arc and Cryptic should fix this ASAP, since like you said, it is somewhat game-breaking and an important thing, more than the PvP patch they made and the carpet mount thing (sorry PvPers).

Again on the chat thing; there should be some kind of allowance for one player being able to walk up to another player and chat with them or ask them a question regarding the game... The problem as I've observed it are so called 'new-low level players' or more accurately spammers who sign on, create a character to advertise a third party website then either quit that account or gets kicked.

I believe there have been several attempts at a fix, not allowing players to chat until they've finished the turorial and not allowing players to chat until they reach level 15, but some spammers are more tenacious and willing to do the quick turorial or level to 15 before attempting to peddle their third party websites.

I have to at least give cryptic a nod for attempting to find a way to make it harder for third party spammers to pester players...

I realize it is probably difficult for some new players to question existing players about game specifics, but as far as actual game play goes, most of the areas, quests and leveling is pretty much straight forward for the new people who actually follow the recommended quest paths from the people who give them.

Of course that being said, I wish they would be willing to do something about the "Admin" spamming players about who got what from which lockbox, but that's probably not an issue that will ever be considered, for several reasons.

Also, I keep hearing from players that the ID scroll issue has been "fixed", yet every time I hear this I sign on to one of my low level characters with their bound lesser and regular scrolls of identification and it's still not working...

Either this issue only effects some players, or the players who claim the issue has been resolved also have Greater Scrolls in their inventory and just don't notice those scrolls are being used to identify low level items instead of the level appropriate scrolls.

But according to reports cryptic is "aware of the problem and looking into it"...

I just hope they are able to do so in a little more timely matter than the previous scrolls glitch where lesser ID scrolls were able to identify any unitentified item of any level. {jk}

On the broken scrolls, I keep hearing players claim the issue has been "fixed", but then I sign on with my low level new character and I'm still not able to identify anything with the lesser and regular bound scrolls that were provided, or purchased lesser or regular scrolls from the wondrous bazaar.

So either this is an issue that only effects some players - or those who are claiming the issue has been fixed have a Greater ID scroll in their inventory and just don't notice when the Greater scroll is being used to ID a low level item instead of the level appropriate scroll.

But the PTB's have reportedly stated they are "aware of the problem and looking into it" - I just hope the issue is resolved a little more timely than the last scroll glitch... o:)
