Please read this article just released a few days ago from Gamespot. It details that Microsoft wishes to open up Cross Platform with Sony but that Sony is still "not quite there yet." I would suggest to all those who wish to have Sony come to an agreement to open up Cross Platform in a more widespread manner with Microsoft to contact Sony and provide them with your wishes and feedback for such. Microsoft is already there, they want it, Sony does not. This agreement between Microsoft and Sony would be the first step in getting the PWE/Cryptic to even begin considering opening Cross Platform possibilities in Neverwinter. For without, it's not even something they can even put on the table for discussion.
So does that mean that it has to be on both sony and xbox before microsoft will cross platform? if that's going to affect us here why don't we already have cross platform xbox and pc?

In a way you do already. You can play the XBOX One through your Computer already. As for having one server that hosts both XBOX and PC players though, I am not sure. I'm sure that's been discussed but all that's been said on that is that "they don't have plans for it at this time."
Which, to me, means there's not enough players expressing they want this for them to consider it profitable to implement and maintain. Just my opinion and not any inside information. We're in the dark to as to "why" - just they tell us the same as they tell you: "they don't have plans for it at this time" and when mentioning cross platforming between XBOX and PS4, the answer is the same as what Microsoft says, that Sony is "not quite there yet."
So, perhaps they don't see cross platforming PC & Console as profitable yet but they might see XBOX and PS4 cross platforming being something they'd like to do but can't because of Sony. If this is true, then they're not saying one way or the other. This thread is for the discussion of Cross Platforming XBOX and PS4 though, not PC, as I feel XBOX/PS4 have a higher chance of cross platforming than those with PC - that XBOX/PS4 cross platforming is just waiting for Sony to change their minds.
I would rather have lag fixed prior to any venture into cross platforms. I could only imagine lag getting worse if they move forward with this.

This isn't specific to Neverwinter.
This is about getting Sony to understand that a console is a computer and it is just as ridiculous to not allow console crossplatforming as it would be to not allow Mac users to interact with people who use PC.
A game is a game and the games that are not exclusive (another concept I loath) should not be forced to separate their communities based on which platform they use. If nothing else it's trashy marketing which makes you choose between Xbox and PlayStation based on what console most of your friends have.
Sony doesn't have the best record when it comes to security. Opening to doors to a format that interacts with PC is just opening the doors to more security exploits. I agree in that I too would rather Sony put more effort into fixing latency issues. Even speeding up its OS and creating better security for its platform before doing anything like this.

market share has a direct impact on overall profitability. I think Sony has a lead in console gaming market with regards to size of subscriber numbers, and that metric being a lead contributor on how to quantify market share. Any endeavor, especially collaborative ones, have the potential risk of negatively impacting market share and it's link to profit. From Sony's standpoint there needs to be a substantial gain that outweighs the potential risk.
It is the unfortunate side of gaming, in the end it's a business. There are people expecting to get paid, and you have to pay them to continue to work on your creation.

Would love to smash those Cross platform pvp "experts" and take them to school : D
I'm totally okay with the platforms remaining separate.

You want cross-platform. As a game ages there are less players to engage in content if you pug. By doing cross platform you can play with family and friends who play on another platform.
DCUO combined PSN and PC platform a few years ago due to the PC platform hanging onto by a string and as soon as Sony opens up the flood gate it will combine PSN and XBox so that all formats can play together.
It is worth working towards this as more and more MMO games are launched as players will gravitate more towards a game that suits their play style and the game takes a population hit.
I would love that to be honest as there would be more players to run and have fun with but there are serious technical problems, mainly we need all 3 versions to be synchronized module wise. If a platform isn't on the same module the others are, they cant coexist as their version wont have the maps items or even sometimes skill/class changes that the new module has.
Think of the debuff changes in mod 12. Our companions behave in one way and theirs in another. We have gears that they cant see because its not on their build yet, same way as to what happens when someone on preview, links using custom chat channels, something new that the live server doesn't have yet. We see the name but not the item itself. On top we have the economy difference (ZEN exchange). The PC players will buy all the zen the consoles have in a blink of an eye at their current ratios.
I can see technically maybe Xbox and Ps4 doing it as they have similar builds but even then they have to synchronize events and other things as it can be harmful to the economy to have multiple events at the same time all year long. This task tho is way easier and manageable .
Not sure if that is a task Cryptic can or want to do and that alone will stop the cross platform from ever happening.

It is called server updates across all platforms and than combing the servers. Yes the PC is ahead of the PS4 and XBox in module but if there is enough push to combine the servers I am sure Cryptic would update the consoles to the PC modul/patches.
If the devs do this, I think content will be in test longer as both MS and PS have strict guidelines on when content can be updated and testing prior to content be updated.
I'm all for merging this and have been after PS for quite a while for other games I play, not just NW.
Just saying maybe you should know that Sony have been cross sharing with the PC market since the ps2 with FF 11 in 2002 its not that they can't its that neither Xbox or Sony trust each either which goes all the way back to the cell chip and Microsofts ....dubious acquisition of it after Sony did all the r+d I'm not starting another debate and I'm to old to be a fanboy but it's quite easy to see why there are problems. As I said not after a debate just stating a point.

Both PS and XBox are now using similar if not the exact same setup for hardware with minor difference. The systems are very similar.
As for the games, they are all 3rd party games. Let's take a look at games on both console that a merge of servers would benefit both systems. To put it simply, any game that is 3rd party that comes out on both consoles.
Games I know off hand are: NW, DCUO, ESO, CoD, etc...
It would not hurt them by merging the servers into one. It would allow 3rd party companies to reduce overhead due to less server being needed increasing the 3rd party developer financial stability which than can result in more games to both consoles.
There are plenty of games on XBox and PC that are starting to share info and account information. I believe MineCraft is having this happened with XBox Port and PC port.
I really hope both open this door open so we can finally see if PS or Xbox players are more skilled.
I have heard that the PC is the master race in gaming. Well every PC player I tend to run into in other games where I can play with them, they tend to use glitches and cheats moreso than the PS4 players and this is where it gets interesting. PC players will deny using macro, cheats or glithces to get ahead or be a top player in a game. PS4 that I have played with over the year will not deny using glitches or cheat to advance, we have nothing to hide and the truth is, if the devs put it there, it must be there for us to use until they remove it. LOL...
