Maybe something like "knowledge" or something like that with similar effect as companion could fill 5 positions instead of companions.

Since they make revenue selling companions in the Zen store, I wouldn't hold my breath. Also, the playerbase definitely would not stand for that. There would be a mass exodus to make Mod 6 look like a minor trickle of players.

Next will be companion artifacts and set bonuses for certain pets. It will make you get 5 more legendary pets instead of the ones you have now.
They already have set bonuses for companions: fire and air archons.

The active companions are also place holder of certain inventory.

Companions already are artifacts in a way. You feed them XP to level them, and then at a certain point, you must upgrade them for a high cost.
Companion gear artifacts is probably the next logical step, but I hope not. More coal wards isn't progress.
Honestly, I think its just time for another level cap increase. They have obviously hit a wall of sorts as to how hard content can be (TONG is basically a DPS race once you know mechanics).
They won't implement any changes that would have the slightest chance of jeopardizing their revenue. Don't even think about it.
That's not true. It looks like they still plan to go ahead with the random queue nonsense. The mass exodus from that plus the bonding shake down (pay more $ to get close to where you were before) will be huge.
I wouldn't be against solo playing if the balance was right. For squishies who need to kite, then Chult would be a death zone.
Would it force more co-operative play? I doubt it.
Would it drive players away? I reckon yes

Because of Chult jungle, I already switched the pet of my OP to be augment. 1. The original pet has only 105% bonding. 2. She is just freaking nosy.
The last straw was: my OP cleaned up an area and wanted to 'cleanse' the grave. She went out to aggro another group. I cleaned out that group. She aggro another group. She took the time to walk over there to attack them. Arrrrg! By the time, I cleaned up the 3rd group. The original group re-spawn. Arrrggggg!
