You should be able to zoom in/out

I have the same problem. The Zoom function doesn't work at all. I've found that if I exit the game completely and come back in, I can zoom in/out for maybe a few seconds before it zooms all the way in and won't zoom out anymore.

It makes the game virtually unplayable.

I've heard reports that resetting to default settings should address the issue. Does that work for you?

If it doesn't: Do you have non-standard keybinds, especially ones using the mouse scroll wheel? Do you have any other peripherals attached, such as a game controller or a tablet?

I don't want to zoom in and out every time, I just want to set my camera to the furthest zoom out that i can and leave it there. Is there a way that I can permanently set the zoom distance i want for my characters instead of having to zoom out every time it resets itself?

i play with a non default fov (field of view) setting of 80 or 90, and the new zoom works fine for me.
i'm very happy with this new function, because apparently i can bring my char even farther away without further distortions ...
nice overview -- it's very enjoyable.
    thank you for implementing it!

I actually have a question about this, as I experienced the issue on a number of characters I wasn't actively trying to play with yesterday. If you reset defaults, will the game behave itself afterwards and not require changing settings every time you want to play? The ground splat targetting bug doesn't seem to recur repeatedly, for example, so correcting it only requires redoing settings once.

Restore all defaults, or keybinds only? And is it going to be a requirement to not use the mousewheel for a keybind? I've bound mounting up to middle mouse, and don't particularly want to have to retrain my muscle memory to something else.
