I had been looking forward to the Mysterious merchant, as some of the items it offered were pretty interesting - here are some of the items from Preview:
Now, my guild did not summon the Mysterious Merchant (MM) yesterday, but one of my secondary alts got a "10-minute invite" to a guild that did (in exchange for making a reasonable donation to their coffers). He was fully stocked up on Guild Marks and ready to make purchases on my behalf (the items are BtA when bought and bind to character on equip - which is fair)
What I found was a big disappointment. The MM had two of the items above - the Executioner's Black Attire and the Weathered Hydra boots, but they had been "nerfed" - they were now IL 450 and their stats had been reduced accordingly. Whereas previously the items were basically BiS for my (DC) main character, that is now no longer the case.
The bottom line is that I now consider the MM a pointless waste of resources - the items it sells are simply overpriced for what they offer.
Silly thing is that this may partially have been my fault. I had previously compared some of those items to the masterwork armor pieces and pointed out that the MM items were superior, which meant that there was not much point in going for the masterwork items. I did however state that considering the high price, I felt the MM items were just fine, but I suggested that the Masterwork armor be given a set bonus instead.
Well, that didn't happen.
Instead the MM items were nerfed.
Why am I not surprised?
