So I made a second loadout for my CW (one is AOE, other is Single target for bosses). Being unable to change the loadouts anywhere except at campfires is too restrictive and removes a lot of the functionality. I just ran CN, changed to single target loadout for the first boss... Found I couldn't change back to AOE loadout until just before the second boss. That is, unless I run back to previous fire or kill myself, change loadout and then run back.
Why not make loadouts changeable anywhere/everywhere except in combat? Or able to change with an altar? Or even make it a VIP rank 12 perk that you can change loadouts anywhere except in combat? We can pray anywhere with VIP. If it stays the way it is I don't think I'll be using the loadouts as much as I had hoped.

So you run your AoE loadout up until the bossfight, switch to single target, burn the boss, and then you're stuck in single target loadout until the next campfire. You can either kill yourself, run back to the pre-boss fire, or suffer through the next open dungeon section in single target loadout until you hit another campfire.
I agree this is kind of a nuisance and detracts from the potential benefit of loadouts. If I'm trying to optimize my build for boss fights in order to perform better, it's cruel to force me to backtrack after the fight, giving up any time I saved with my optimal build.
Admittedly not a game-breaking issue, but worth bringing up as a legitimate complaint in my book.

Having tried all the above, so far the solution is suicide!
Hotkey/killme is working pretty well for me so far.
I am Took.
"Full plate and packing steel" in NW since 2013.
But still you relinquish all of your non-persisting food items and any buffs you've accumulated (not a huge deal admittedly, but not a non-issue either)
I guess it just runs contrary to what I consider the general intent of loadouts. If it's more hassle to switch back and forth around bosses than it is to just leave it, that's sad.
In no way am I saying that loadouts are bad. For support classes they are a godsend. But for switching between AoE and single target within a run, they aren't as streamlined an experience.
