How do you get rid of the event window above the quest tracker?

Sorry for the extremely noobish question, but I find the event window that talks about sieges and what not a little distracting, above the quest tracker. I'm a new player and I won't find myself interested in that stuff for a while. Is there any way to minimize it at all?

When I first started playing not being able to remove the event display above the quest tracker was also a complaint of mine. Now, however, I am pretty much able to ignore it.
As there is no way to hide it all I can say is give it some time, you will learn to ignore it!

It will cease to exist in a few days, you will notice that you might even forget an event while it's advertised there....
But the answer is, no. UNLESS you want to hide your quest/mission tracker as well. They are bind together under 1 slab in the HUD.
If that's what you want, I HIGHLY advise against it:
Esc -> Rearrange HUD -> Mission tracker -> Hide.
