Why is a swashbuckler using a shield? Why is a striker using a shield?

Arrr, and a bucket of squirrels.
The stars are falling, and the old gods silent as death, with the blood sworn to rip you down from the night sky, what cost will pose too high?

Because that is the literal definition of a swashbuckler.

"'Swashbuckler' is a compound of 'swash' (archaic: to swagger with a drawn sword) and 'buckler' (a small-shield gripped in the fist) dating from the 16th century."

As to why a striker is using a shield, it's because shields can be used defensively or offensively (particularly small dense shields - like metal bucklers). The whole idea that someone using a sword & board has a low offensive output is an artificial convention taken to ridiculous extremes by several very popular MMOs.

And... this companion DOES use her shield offensively.

I didn't ask "why is a swashbuckler using a buckler?", I asked "why is a swashbuckler using a shield?" Look at the image. That's a full-on shield, like a GF or OP totes around. Definitely not a buckler.

If you're going to whip out "literal definition", you might want to pay attention to the words that are being used.

A buckler is a type of shield. Like any shield, it can be used offensively or defensively. The other half of your vague complaint was that a striker was using a shield, as though such a thing was inconceivable, which is why I spelled it out for you. If you're going to whip out the Chewbacca Defense for something that's really not that much of a stretch, you might want to pay attention to everything you're implying in a post.

I didn't contest your striker point. Just the Swashkiteshielder.

Speaking of shields, are there supposed to be two, or is there just the one?

There are two, but I believe they are class-specific.

Just wishing out loud.... But it would be nice if these cta events had multiple queues with different difficulties: one for 70s and one for 69 and under, for example. As it is this cta seems like a sprint to the end, no semblence of teamwork needed, nor tanks nor healers. Homogenized for every skill level.

I have similar feelings towards the siege and pit fight, the only ones i've been around for. And fyi, this is from the perspective of a 2.4 gf and 1.9 op. Not bis or elite. I find the combat in this game wonderful, i just wish there was more reason to try, or even pay attention.

Thank you and have a nice day.
