Error when attempting to send Alliance invitations

When I try to invite another guild (or be invited by a guild) it says "[Error] Alliance Error: Invited guild must be same allegiance."

The guild I was attempting to invite is not part of any Alliance. I know for a fact because I have toons in both.

EDIT: moved this part down because it's just bad grammar and I know how it works now:

I don't understand how the invitation system is suppose to work.

It says: "Invite another guild to be the leader of your own new Alliance, or use the "Invitations Received" button below to see invitations to your guild from existing Alliances."

That doesn't make sense. So, you invite others to LEAD your alliance rather than invite others to join YOUR alliance? I don't get that.

Is it simply that what was deployed to Preview isn't actually working yet? Either way, that blurb is really confusing because (at least in my opinion) a guild should be inviting guilds to be UNDER it in the hierarchy (alpha invites betas, betas invite gammas) not the other way around.

So, I tried this again with another guild and they get the same error when trying to invite Greycloaks. It appears we cannot invite anyone or be invited to an alliance.

Update: We created several additional test guilds and with the help Team Fencebane as well, were able to set up an alliance. However, the original Greycloaks preview guild seems to be unable to be invited or invite others to an alliance. It's been attempted with 4 guilds now - none are able to form an alliance with the guild. Clearly, if this happens when the module launches to other guilds on Live, this will be a disaster.

yea same issue here I tried with 1 of my buddies and then tried several random invites to other guilds and still same error, this must be some old GG coding, as far as choosing GG sides I don't think that can be done anymore, so also tried making sure that my buddy and I both where AB to make sure that wasn't the issue still got the same error, so im thinking old GG coding or some other coding is messed up.

GG was my thinking too actually, though it could be anything. I'm curious if anyone at Cryptic has taken note of this bug. Hopefully!

Muchas gracias for the mod touch. This, if it's systemic (and seeing as Greycloaks aren't the only guild apparently having this issue) could really be a disaster... hopefully either A- it's fixed outright or B- some workaround other that disbanding and reforming the guild can be found.

I'm just curious if the majority of preview guilds have existed long enough to even have a GG faction, considering that I think a lot of preview guilds were only founded in order to test Strongholds.

If shiny new guilds aren't having a problem but really old ones are, then that is a point of correlation (and doesn't bode well for launch because our live guilds are long-established).

That question was one of the first one that came to mind once I started thinking about GG factions. Greycloaks on preview has been around for ages... certainly from when the faction system was still in play. While I don't know if that's the root issue here, there's a solid chance that the age of the guild

What's the name of your preview guild? Try sending an invite to Greycloaks - let me know your guild name and I'll try yours as well. Maybe whatever allegiance they have is wrong for everyone else, but the same for them? Worth checking anyway, don't you think?

Team Testbane was made when Strongholds was being tested, if that helps.

Yeah, and we were able to get alliances set up with Team Testbane with both Testy Cloaks and Cloaks of Test - but not Greycloaks. Those other two were brand new guilds though. I have a hunch it's an age-related thing in some way.

Yea same I tried with a lot of guilds when I seen folks come online, randomly sending out invites to guild leaders to see whats up, Name of our guild is DEFIANCE on test server, prior to that it was named Cryptic Developers still have Akro's toon sitting in there not sure how old it is but got to be atleast 2 years old now!!

Acknowledged.

Internal testing suggests that this is only an incorrect error message when the target to invite has an Old Gauntlgrym allegiance on their guild, but they're also part of an Alliance. From the comments in this thread, though, it appears that this *was* tested with guilds that weren't already part of an Alliance, so we're continuing to look into this.

THANK YOU @terramak, I appreciate the response! Yes, I can verify with absolute certainty that the Greycloaks on Preview are not part of an alliance. That is due entirely to this error. Thanks again for looking into it!

We've got a potential fix. Hoping to get it to Preview by the end of the day.

When I tried to send an invitation from Cloaks of Test (a helm guild) to Greycloaks - the invitation went through. However, when I tried to accept that invitation it didn't work. No error, just... didn't accept. The invitation stays there, and mocks me with it's non-working accept button. I've tried with different characters who are rank 7 in Greycloaks and it doesn't work.
