Dread enchantment?

reaper#3644 reaper Member Posts: 126 Arc User
Got a couple questions. First is this enchantment still available? Then how good is it for a hr? Just got a lesser feytouch right now that I'm starting to refine. But wondering if this wouldn't be a better one to put the effort in. Thanks in advance for your insight

Alright so thanks to Rhadamathys I looked in the PC area and over there some are saying it is better then vorpal in solo and small groups. From the small amount I read anyway.

Just for those who may be interested.
    This is at normal.
Your Encounter powers strike with an additional 40% Critical Severity. Additionally you damage your foe for 15% of weapon damage as Necrotic damage every 1 second for 4 seconds and induce terror in your foe, reducing their defense by 20%. This effect cannot be refreshed until it expires.

Yeah it actually sounds like the Dread Enchant was pretty much made for a HR.

Yeah I was starting to work on the feytouch. But also thinking of the plaugefire enchantment. So i went on the wiki to see where to get the pf and came across the dread. Now I think I might wait and get the dread and work on upgrading it. What are your thoughts wdj40 you have a lot of knowledge on this class and game and put alot of effort in it.
    Thanks

Is the dread really that good? Here's some thoughts...on trans

You gain 25% CSev over vorpal on encounters only. That means you lose 50% CSev on careful attack (your best source of dos in a group) and on seismic shot (mine crit for around 300-400k atm).

40% reduction in defense...what does that really equate to in dps?

Finally, the 15% weapon dmg...twisted is 2700 damage...that's around 400 dmg total over 4 seconds...

Next, there is an icd for terror and it is only single target...

So I ask, is it really that much better for an HR? Perhaps for solo mode, but group mode vorpal is still king, imo.

@reaper honestly I have only tried the Fey at Trans as they are so expensive to make. I have heard the Fey is a bit broken for us though and does not work properly. I have not noticed a lack of DPS though.

I will try Dread once it comes out though :)

Trans Vorpal is 2mil more than a Fey in the AH which is why I have never gone back to it. I would love to try Holy Avenger and Lifedrinker at Trans... But I have been told on the PC forum that Lifedrinker is not very good.

rhadamathys. that's what I got too but I solo prob about 90% of the time right now.

Wdj40 the vorpal seems really pricey out of my reach right now I'm hoping the dread will be cheaper fingers crossed.

Thanks you guys for the input it is appreciated

Because of the single target attribute, I will pass on Dread.

Next Lock box, if I recall, will have Negation and Terror(?). Getting a trans Negation and Elven Battle is my next goal.

I had a Holy Avenger and it sold fast, wish I had not sold it.

Hope everyone reaches their goals this coming weekend.

I'm still considering it but now I'm not sure about it the vorpal or dread. Might just wait until the dread hit then make my decision

I ran Ecc last night with another HR about the only difference between us were some boons and I have rank 11 and 12s she rank 10s and 11s and I ran trans vorpal and she trans dread she beat me in total dps the act logs showed she rec 37% root damage to my 26% and her sezmics were hitting 600k mine were hitting 480k sezmic ever time came up the regular encounters were around a 10 to 12% difference my rapid shot was higher as was my CA but end of dungeon over all she finished 113m dps to my 92mil dps a 19% better dps The dread enchant defiantly worked better for her

Seismic is a daily, and isn't affected by dread...those numbers should be reversed...or at least scrutinized more...take out seismic and what do numbers look like?

Also, I found a good way to test...me and taco ran hunt skirmish...around 3-4 times and got a baseline diff for our damage (we didn't use buffs, kept the runs the same as much as possible with regards to tactics)...then I changed build and ran it again 3 times...using the averages we were able to see how 1 build changed...

I try to keep a eye out for more side by side runs over on the PC forum just hard to get a good comparison. I have seen that a lot of pc peeps are liking the dread on other char also. Probably why it's so expensive  and its new.

I think that for the start the dread only comes from the Zen store, so the prices are likely to reflect that.

@rhadamathys you said above vorpal was still best in groups in your opinion, and spoke about runs with taco, and you were able to see how the build changed.

what was the result? i am quite curious and dont have a similarly equipped trapper to test with. (nor one with a dread enchant)
any info would be appreciated, thanks : )

    Wow Trans Dread already?

I have put my Trans Fey on my Water Weapons now for PvP... My Twisted Set for PvE has a normal Dread so a long way yet to go to get that to Trans :(

Best Enchanment is still a Vorpal reguardless what these devs label it. Why because you loose the sev on at wills and dailies.

@Ney, That T.Dread did work last night. I might make my own soon.

Not surprised he has a T.Dread. The farming is intense with our guild. I am already packing salvage into my mules and personal guild repository after emptying last weeks residual salvage and RP into the coffer Sunday. Two more weeks is another 2xAD!

Keep in mind that I plan way ahead and stockpile what I need to ensure I can get what I want...I probably spend 60-70% of my time trading, grinding, and playing the adx instead of playing ... Kinda taking its toll on me, but it's payed off in that I now have 2 4.3k toons...few more acquisitions and I'll be back to playing for fun...kinda burnt out on trading atm...

My concern with dread on an HR is that it comes down to play style and other factors which makes it hard to say what is right for everyone...unlike the SW, where I can say 100% every SW should run the dread, he is different.... My seismic shot does 450k on a crit....my careful attack procs for 1m plus...does the increase on encounters make up for losing out on those? Dunno...do I want to swap based on group vs solo? Not really... I'm leaning towards vorpal but will try dread and see...

Edit: as for salvage, I have 10 toons with around 2m rad on each...now that I no longer need refinement, I make a pretty penny selling all that as well.

first off im gunna say dread and vorpal are both good and yes you loose the crit sev on dailies and at wills now im going to point out that ur a hunter so u shouldent be using at wills at all and ur dailies still hits hard most my damage comes from my encounters so why would i not want to enhance that? and adding on to that i ran with a vorpal and change to a dread because honestly im doing way more damage with the dread then i was with the vorpal and if ur team player the dread helps ur team out more so then the vorpal does. now to end this i will say it really is preference

  • wdj40wdj40 Member Posts: 1,958 Arc User
Saying a Hunter does not use At-Will's is just plain wrong... I cannot count the number of times I have corrected people on that. If you are a Trapper Hunter Ranger using Aspect of the Serpent, you HAVE to use At-Will's to maximise the damage from AotS.
