Is it a bug/exploit, or is it WAI? (Working As Intended)

*I like it because it actually requires strategy as opposed to just killing everything as in Demonic Slaughter. Used it quite often. I have 3 characters with full drowcraft. Well, my op has Elemental Alliance from ECC, so I didn't bother with the breastplate yet. But he has everything else.

**I actually think it might be WAI. I'm tired of explaining or trying to explain how to use the Zythar Method to people in-game. But I'll give you a hint. Closure never tells you to kill all the demons. Protecting the Harper is the goal. You don't even have to kill all the demons in Escape, you just have to kill most of them. Though Demonic Escape is the hardest to solo, and the most annoying. I've soloed it twice so far on my paladin, but I prefer to simply make it fail. I believe that is also strategy, a good one.

I wish i could make chat macros. If I had 10 AD for every time i typed in /say "don't kill the zythar!", I'd be at 4k ilevel by now.

If some moron comes to try to "help", i usually will just try to kite a shadow demon far away from said moron instead.

Kiting a demon (whichever of zythar or shadow works best for you) is totally WAI. The objective is "protect the Harper", not "murderize everything so more stuff spawns". They designed it this way. It was one of the ways in which Underdark content was intended to have mechanics beyond being a straight DPS race.

It's not just that I agree. More than one dev has responded to mentions of how people HAMSTER up this HE by fighting demons up the Harper's backside in a manner that indicates they also find it exasperating in their own gameplay experiences. Works as designed, other than the incompetence factor.

It's not an exploit. It's how it is supposed to work, as far as I know, until a dev states otherwise. I've done live streams showing off the method, so I do hope that is how it's supposed to work.

I know the method - I solo the demonic HEs all the time (all of them), and frankly prefer the kill them all method.. why? Because I can. With ease. It's boring as hell walking around waiting for the timer to run out. So, just because YOU don't want to kill the demons, don't come on here and call people morons ( @dioriel ) because they prefer a straight up fight to dancing around.

First i am very glad that you learned this by only watching how it is done and no extra explaining ("You no kill mob") was needed but...

Didn't they actually just fixed this so that demons can not be kited away so that people who think of enforcing their 'right' way by kitting mob away can't ?

Anyway stopped doing that 'skilled' tactic after players compalined they do not get the heroic accounted.

So when someone skilled as you kites the mob and some "noob" comes and oneshoots it it is cause else the heroic maybe wont count for him

offtopic: or you know do something like idk (epic) demogorgon or throne or pom.... if you want the +5 rings and twisted weapons from there you will have the drowcraft till you grind for them (and even sell shirts/pants in the AH cause ring drop is so optimal that you will be full of ichor)

You may be better off with 2*dusk 2* drowcraft then if you are skipping gorgon you dont need the set bonus against her. And the stats difference may be in favor of 2*dusk+2*drow (look remains the same)

I'm trying to decide if you said this because you feel playing since mod 3 is a long time... or... something else. If its the former, then understand that I've been in the game much longer than that and based on your comments my gear is substantially better than yours. So, if its the latter - then... understand that I have toons with less gear than you have (I have 19 lvl 70 toons) who also solo those HEs without the strategy you've mentioned. You're welcome to use whatever strategy you'd like - for me, I'll repeat what I said before: I find killing them much funner than dancing with them.

Well, not really. Haven't you ever seen Closure fail because there are like 15 people fighting demons but they all insist on doing it right on top of the blankity-blanking Harper?

You can't do this with more than 2 or 3 people, so no need to get angry at others that attack the demons. Remember that even if the goal of this HE is to protect something, your reward is still calculated on how much damage you deal relative to how much damage was dealt from all participants together. If you deal less damage than most others then it won't count. I had this case where everyone was just attacking the enraged balguras, leaving one other demon alive, and in the end even though I was there the entire time and attacked the balguras it wouldn't count as me participating at all. If there are several people involved, the only way that everyone gets the rewards (let alone a great success) is to kill everything. The enraged balguras die so fast that only the players getting in the first hit every time would get a reward otherwise.
Yes, the one getting hit by the zythar will get a reward because received damage also counts a bit for participation, but don't get angry if others wanna join your solo attempt. You don't own these HEs.

Since when the reward is calculated by the damage you did ? I frequently on WoD arrive at the very end of a HE because of instance switch, deal 2-3 hits on a demon and get rewarded, just like the players who did this HE since it's start.

So, I sometimes get rewarded for HEs that I wasn't even participating in. That's because sometimes the game declares surrounding encounters as part of the HE. That's also the cause of the bug in Fiery Pit and IWD when normal mobs get super-charged. Doesn't change that you need to do a certain amount of damage and if you are not allowed to hit enemies then it won't count for you.
I've seen it more than once that this kiting method leads to getting no rewards.

From your post looks like u finally understand what u have to do in demonic closure... Strange I knew that since this feature where added in game.. How?? Simply by reading<<<

U say Demonic escape solo is hard.. Well depend of class u play with. With CW is peace of cake,, with SW(my favorite) is not easy, but not hard either. With tanks I think is most easy stuff. After all u don't have to kill them all, but hold them away from portal...
