Suggestion: Auto - "Pass on Loot" setting

kreatyvekreatyve Member, Neverwinter Moderator, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 10,545 Community Moderator
There are a lot of people who really hate to roll on loot in dungeons, some who hate it so much that they will vote kick players who are trying to grab as much loot as they can, mainly because of the roll for loot screen being so in your face. The problem is much worse on Xbox, where they can't move or resize the roll for loot UI. So I am suggestion that we get a feature where we can choose to flag our character to pass on all loot automatically in dungeons (something that can be triggered on and off in each dungeon). What does everyone think?

I would love a personal auto vote system. That way i could auto pass on the green stuff and auto need/greed on the blue+ stuff. I don't want or need the roll out-comes to fill my screen (place the result in the action tab, so if anyone is interested they can look there). If i win, put the item in inventory, i don't care who won and what random number i won/lost on.

The problem is even worse now, once i could clear the results by repeatedly pressing ESC, but now every second press brings up the ESC menu, disrupting game play even more than it did before. I have moved the results to the side of the screen, which has helped, but that is a band-aid solution at best.

People should be able to farm in peace, whether it be for items to sell for gold, for surplus equipment for a guild or for items to feed to their many artifacts. An individual auto vote system would stop people getting frustrated with others for picking up, what they consider, worthless green/blue items.

I personally never support a vote to kick someone for picking up items, even though i find very annoying at times (even more so when the vote (and the result) pops up in the middle of a battle). For me, the farmers could help their own cause by picking stuff up between battles rather than during.

The party leader can change the loot threshold already, just nobody ever does it.

I've always got my party loot option set to "free for all", problem solved.

+1, i get it that new players can have potential upgrades in any green, it just annoys especially when 3-4 items pop on screen
Please fix Zhentarim Warlock companion's skill "Arcane Warping" to the originally intended "Arcane Boost"

Yes, of course, I have my loot set to the free for all. However the dungeons won't allow the party leader to fix it at all. I never use Need or Greed and when it pops up it just blankets the screen and causes more issues between players. Guild Wars (the original not the other crud game) had a simple system that money was divided with party automatically. Drops are assigned to the player, it literally has your name on it. If the party member quit out, those items went up for grabs.

I would like to be able to turn off everything except blue or better drops, personally. Or at least move the rolls somewhere less prominent.

Dungeons do not actually allow you to change the loot settings once you are in, and revert your own personal settings to the game's default "roll on everything" when you enter via a queue. The only way I was ever able to enter a dungeon and maintain a round robin loot preference was if I walked in with a group through the door, and dungeons no longer have doors.

I would probably use a custom setting to auto-pass or auto-roll if it existed.

Honestly, we just need to do away with the entire roll for loot system and just award personal loot.

The major drops already do this. It's already done this way for CTA's and other event type content. They just need to do it for everything and be done with it. You only see your drops, everyone else only sees theirs. No windows, no popups, no fuss. Then you can pick up your loot, or choose not to, without disturbing anyone.

The party leader can change it in most content - but not in any dungeon.

Please update all group content to use the Call to Arms personal loot system. No more loot rolls ever.

That is exactly the problem. Loot rolls are a part of playing MMOs. I get that and kicking people for taking loot is unacceptable to me. The problem is that pugs don't learn to play in a sensible and respectful manner. It's only common sense not to pick up loot during a fight for every reason already stated above. It's also good manners to try and not annoy your team members. It will only get you blocked/votekicked.

It's like they are afraid the drop will vanish. Which, if they played the game for longer than 20 minutes before that run, they can know it will not and that there's plenty of time to pick it up after combat. People just don't learn.
+1 to all suggestions for improvement. My guess as to why players loot during battle is that they're trying to keep up with the would-be paingivers and collect loot at the same time. They probably feel they need to collect loot during battle so they can still try to give chase to those who are racing ahead, and who won't pause to allow them to collect. Arguably, those who race ahead and are plagued by this issue have themselves to blame. Personally, I commend players for collecting all the loot and leaving the dungeon clean and tidy for the next person.

Party leader used to be able to in dungeons. Why they changed it is beyond incomprehensible to me. #1 on the list of things to do with the loot system in dungeons is to give us back the ability to change loot rolls in dungeons. There is absolutely no logical reason why we should not be able to.

who needs loot rolls anyway? just assign loot as CTA style. You get your own drops no more filling my screen with unwanted roll info.

    Better suggestion:

Remove drop from dungeon mobs except personal drops from echantments(and maybe gold). This also will help new players by selling profession resources from killing mobs while leveling up since level 70 players will either have to go farm skill nodes or buy from AH with higher prices.

Removing loot drops from mobs is a bad idea. Half the reason i do any dungeon is loot drops. I collect that stuff as RP or toss in guild coffers. Only having loot drops at end boss is one step closer to just hoping in to an end boss and loot chest. Why even bother with dungeons and lets all do heroic encounters.

Once you have all chosen your roll, need greed or pass, you can hit escape to get rid of the loot roll info. It isn't a perfect solution, but it definitely makes it easier to see with tons of loot being picked up.

Oh dear gods YES! I would love to set mine to Purple gear only!!!
I don't need trash items and I REALLY don't want them in my

    Please make this happen.

Didn't know the leader settings didn't work in dungeons, that's a weird decision.
Anyway, I think personal loot would be best. It was on the way, but since last mod some personal loot got reverted back to dice roll loot. Insignias too.
If you give people a setting to pass on anything below epic, I can see the rage already when someone auto-passes on a blue insignia or a green artifact.
  • ambisinisterrambisinisterr Member, Neverwinter Moderator Posts: 10,462 Community Moderator
If we had an auto-refine I wouldn't pass on nearly as much. :)

+1 for auto pass on loot thresholds. I'd rather be able to set loot rolls but that clearly isn't going to happen. As someone mentioned above, have loot just appear for us, don't really know the implications for that other than it seems to work with salvage drops from mini bosses right now.

I can't even skip green loot with escape now, the second time I press escape it doesn't get rid of the 2nd green loot window I want off my screen, it gives me the options window, the problem is further exascerbated by the people that are most likely to loot every green item, because they usually do it regardless of whether or not you are in the middle of a fight.

what I don't understand is.....on the "call to arms" events loot on the ground is for me alone, since this is already implemented as a mechanic in the game why not do this for everything green and anything that is blue or higher have that on the loot roll, there would be much less people getting upset over someone picking up green stuff
  • aaramis75aaramis75 Member Posts: 348 Arc User
Just fix the UI so we don't have a ton of boxes in the middle of the screen obscuring our view every time someone wants to loot a green item.

Every other MMO out there has provided an easier method for keeping track of loot that doesn't affect your visual experience. It's not that hard, really.

Once you have all chosen your roll, need greed or pass, you can hit escape to get rid of the loot roll info. It isn't a perfect solution, but it definitely makes it easier to see with tons of loot being picked up.

This was the way it worked, but since the new mod every second press of the esc button (at least for me) calls up the ESC menu, which interferes with game play even more than the roll results do, causing you to loose control of your toon until you clear it (again by pressing esc). Whilst not the end of the world, it has made a bad problem worse.

As I said previously I have moved the loot rolls to a less annoying location, but apparently this isn't an option for xboxers.
