Do you play alts at end game?

chocobofarmerchocobofarmer Member Posts: 512 Arc User
Do you have alts that you play end game content with, and do you think it's too hard to get alts geared up?

Back when I played 1.5 years ago, I had 5 lvl 60's all pretty well-geared. It was relatively quick and easy to get them all geared up to be ~80% as strong as a best in slot toon, and it was really fun just playing all the classes and being able to do well in both pve and pvp end game. Right now I am trying to get my dc geared up, and wow, it seems so much more painful. Lvling 60-70 is tedious, AD is harder to come by, artifacts, pets, and bags are bound, and there's a lot more gear to grind. At the rate I'm earning AD right now I can't even imagine how I am going to get my dc geared up without pulling out the credit card, so how am I ever going to get to my alts? I did some dreadring solo dungeons with my level 60's, and ya I was squishy as heck, but it reminded me of how fun the combat of the other classes is. Pretty irritating I used to be able to enjoy those classes but now there is a lot of artificial paywall make it harder.

Prior mod 6. I had every class able to perform at least effective in PVE and did so. Post mod 6, I have one lvl 80. The rest sadly are only for storage now.

So no to the first question, the 2nd question is more of, is it worth your time or money question; meaning it can be easy or difficult just depending on its actual value to you as an individual.

I have 4 alts that are ~2.9k ilvl, that I consider end-game worthy, and another 3 that are adequate in T1s -- although I almost never run dungeons on them; I just don't have the time.

You can earn T1 gear for your alts on your main, farming seals in T1 dungeons. Use the alts to get free sigil artifacts. Rank 7 enchantments are nearly free, using rank 5 drops and blue Marks of Potency from Leadership boxes. Rank 8s aren't much worse now -- I've gotten more than 10 GMoPs from leadership boxes or DR lairs.

MH and OH weapons are free. Using RP from leadership, gear drops and Dragon's Hoard enchantments will get all the artifact gear to purple.

Run Sword Coast Adventures on Gateway to get free gear for your companions. I got the Stone of Radiance for free back when it was a promotion, so my augment is free, and I mostly use companions I got for free from promotions or from Winter Festival.

The main expenses are higher-level enchantments, armor and weapon enchantments, and buying artifact necks/belts if you don't get lucky on drops. Oh, and I'm a crafter -- so I buy dragon's eggs and make my own rings and shirts/pants, selling enough to make a profit while outfitting all my alts as well.

At this point, the greater issue is time -- each campaign and the demands of the ever-hungry SH coffer make it harder and harder to actively play all my alts.

Edit: Note that "end game" for me is T2 dungeons and the like, I am emphatically not a pvper.

Have all classes at 2.5k fully decked out. Well, 2 are 2.3k, but that's because I been lazy with upgrading their enchants. Play whichever I'm in the mood for, grind some ADs.

Grinded all 8 through spinward rise and 16/16/16 vigils, pvp for 4/4 burning set. Currently got 3 with drowned weapon set, working on 2 more. Freakin hell to manage, but at least I worry little about getting bored. I will never reach BiS that's for damn sure when I split my income 8 ways.

I have one main, and three secondary mains - All 4 are vi able for end game (although the GWF is only around 2.1k), the rest are 2.6k-3.3k.

I have another 6 toons which are there in case I want to shake things up, one of them I'm looking to gear up in case I want to really make things difficult and main another toon.

I have 3 mains, OP tank/AP healer/GWF DPS 2900/2750/3340 IL so I can help my guild out in whatever role is required on dungeons/dragon runs.

I have 8 characters, all level 70. I play four of them as time allows.

They are all, at a minimum, 2.2k ilvl.. in fact, I just took my baby pally through his first dungeon ever (eToS), and he did fine, especially for a character that invoked from invoke level to about 63.. I have a baby GWF that is coming along nicely, but I want to get her a few more boons before taking her into an epic.

Pretty much all of my characters had "endgame" gear waiting for them when they hit 70. Once I had my "mains" decked out, all the seals and Guild Marks and whatnot went towards equipping my lower characters.

The average iLvl on the 8 playable alts I've put less effort into is 2.5k. The 4 I play more are approaching the 2.8 mark. Gradual acquisition of Drowcraft armor is going to bump that average, and the next 2xRP will bump it more. I play content that's endgame enough for my liking.

I have 16 at level 70, and the average ilevel is around 2.3k. But should be closer to 2.5 once I get the drowcraft armor on them all and their elemental main and offhands. And get their enchants and artifacts leveled too.

I tried focusing on 2. It is not viable at this time. Stick with one toon and pour all of your time and resources into it.

Eh. Once you hit 2.8k or so it's barely worth investing much more in your character for PvE. I hit 3k with my CW and while I could keep playing it not like it's going to make much difference.

I've got a toon of each class that I've been invoking since level 21 and they're all around 64-69 so I'll start gearing out a GWF now that I'm pretty much done with my CW.

Trying to but I'm still a few hundred iLvl short to enter epic Demo. Probably going to take me a long while to get there and if future content has higher gear walls then it might be stuff I'll never actually play with any of my chars. :(

I have 2 70's. And 5 60-69's. I play them all, but mostly play the 2 70's and 1 60+ at a time, I go through phases of what I want too play. once you have some decent enchants you can get pretty much any character respectable, and getting normal artifacts up is pretty cheap compared too how it used too be.

I think the most important thing to work on is your Offence/ defense slot enchants, and your weapon / armor enchants. These can be moved around characters pretty easily, focus on your reinforcement / utility slots / lgendary/mythic artifact gear after this. with ensorc mulhro weaps and 3-4 epic artifacts you can still be pretty strong.
People are way too negative, Why cant we just all get along.

Spent 100k a while ago getting them for my TR and now they're going for 5k+7k.

All my characters(one of each class) are level 70, but I'm only playing my OP now and that's only running a few HE's a day to get ichor. I just don't have the time or energy for the current mediocre content.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

I started a thread this week on things that they need to make the game more alt friendly, they have gone WAY overboard on grind levels since mod 4.. adding a particular gate every module. But the vast majority of players dont need half of those gates, they do them to keep a small % of the population from running out of things.. but trust me, that % of population, literally rolls through the new content NO matter what in 2-3 weeks.

I offered some simple solutions to dial back on the problems we have.

But the most important out of all of them is the following.

ARTIFACT gear and weapons from Green to EPIC (or purple) need to be vastly reduced by 50% of the value now, a much more shallow curve needs to be in play for this segment. I dont mind keep the current RP value from epic to legendary (not asking to be BIS on all toons ) but we need some obvious and immediate relief in this field.

This is starting to really bog down the game. They are not balancing out the correct way for those who really want to play alts. I will not play a game that I cant play multiple toons in.

and yes.. 3k is find and dandy for pve.. no need to have any toon over that.. frankly 2.5k is fine and dandy as well.. but anything in between those two points can roll through all content in this game together. Sure you can get to 4k and literally roll through things and solo t2s, and if you find that challenging, go ahead and do that.. I dont care if poeple do that.. its just something Im not personally interested in.

My playable alts are between 2.3k and 3.1k total i level. Yes, if i dumped all resources into one toon, I would be BiS, but the game would be 10x more boring to me . Some classes barely need any i level to be perfectly functional , others need a ton more. DPS requires some more investment and out of the dps classes, I find the HR to be the most expensive to get to the point they are functional, SW the cheapest and GWF the most efficient (IE every progress you make, you get the most return out of it).

They REALLY need to work on this aspect of the game soon.

There are of course MANY other items they could do.. but to me personally artifact gear HAS to be changed for alts. Its just too steep and it curtails options in the game.

I really hope they listen to this once.. just this once on this!

(other items is costing on opening up powers.. wow is that WAY too steep in game! Just ridiculous!) I really hope they change that soon (1 augment cube should = 1 power to open) sounds simple and easy solution to me.

I still believe the game is too alt-unfriendly, even with the changes made more recently. More stuff needs to be account-bound instead of character-bound.

I have 2 toons which I spend most of my time on, both are lvl 70 HRs with IL's 3k and 2.7k. I also have a GF and GWF at lvl 70 but they are only side projects now.

I play since beta, got enchants etc. from friends, who stopped playing and I have 1 char with near BIS gear, 3 more wth legendary weapons and legendary/ mystic artefacts. Two more with decent gear and 2 2k+ IL.

While it is viable to play some chars in PvE, it is difficult to gear more than one char for PvP. The difference between 2.5k IL and 4k+ is just to big.
Chars: CW, DC, GF, GWF, HR and TR.
  • silverkeltsilverkelt Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 4,235 Arc User
3k vs 4k is just too big as well. Thats part of the issue in pvp.

But so isnt the massive amount of perma rooting, perma draining, perma stunning, perma bubbles, perma ap, perma everything else..

Its almost like the devs gave up and just allowed every effing whatever in the game.

    so whatever back..

Sadly, Ive tried my hardest to get into a match the last couple days.. waiting in queue for a hour at a time, getting a match to pop and bam partial premade with one of the top end pvp guilds.

How am I supposed to get shards for my coffer this way?

I cant just dictate when Im on and I cant spend eight hours a day waiting for a queue to drop either.

If you played at the start I'm sure it's fine, but for anyone new to the game, since mod 6, it's not feasible really unless you're willing to spend a ton. Then just buy all your levelling gear, buy all your R12 and transcendent enchants, buy to complete the campaigns without doing them.

i have 2 toons pretty much full geared, except for companions (im starting now to think about it)

1 of these two usually dont get used anyways since the grinding for each mod is too high. I do the full grind only on one while trying to improve little things on the other. For example this mod im using the tr, while upgrading utility slots on the hr.

+ 3 toons around 1.4k ilvl alts to run stuffs like under 70 dungeons, skirm, dr liars and do some nice ads. Without them my ad income would be 0.

I have just the two default toons. The main is currently 2.5k, and the alt was a DC simply for the sigil unlock. Mostly his purpose was another character's worth of refining. Underdark rings have made hitting the cap on a second character much easier, so I've been enjoying being able to gear up faster (nearly twice as fast; I do some selling on the AH, but not so much that I'd say it readily competes with 36k a day). I can just run him or the main through the demonic HE's and get rings for salvage and ichor and elemental seals. The latter is helping me gear that alt up, though I've done almost nothing to refine up his artifacts and artifact equipment. Nevertheless, underdark gear should make it relatively easy to get him to 2k without having to go through the pain of dungeon runs that could fail miserably at any time (especially right now with the crash bugs). My main can already solo almost all of the single player content--Biggrin and frost giants in general are perhaps the last real trouble spot. And that's with only one legendary artifact, everything else being epic (or rare for my belt and cloak), and no enchants over rank 7, or weapon/armor enchants beyond the basic lessers.

Since you have to pay for extra character slots (or give up precious AD to get the zen for it) I am limited to just the two toons. So I am basically forbidden by default from actually enjoying the full breadth of the gaming experience unless I'm willing to routinely delete characters. I get some measure of enjoyment from the DC, but he's an AP/buffing type so it's actually kind of boring: stand in one spot, blast out the healing to amp up the AP and then blast out the dailies to and just dodge every so often as desired.
