Epic Air Archon : To Sell or Not to Sell?!

cadmancancadmancan Member Posts: 41 Arc User
So I am a lvl 70 CW. Right now I have the Ioun Stone of Allure. Just go the Epic Air Archon from a lockbox. Should I sell or equip? The lowest Epic Air Archon is 440k AD in the market. I sure could use that kind of coin! Not sure what would work better at this stage of the game. I thought certain folks could use (2) companions at once. Is that true? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Certain folks are, like myself, people with more characters and actually playing with them.

Easy decision, play and want more damage? Equip the archon. Need AD bad? Sell him. They will go down in price, bought my 3rd for like 200k two days ago.

If you need AD I would say sell it quick. Or wait till Strongholds drops, wait a couple days, and try to sell him then. But after Strongholds(after 1-2 weeks) there will most likely be a drop in players again, so prices will drop significantly. Thus, you will get less for it.

You can have one summoned companion and then 4 active ones who's Active Bonus carries over to you. The Ioun Stones are good summoned as they are augments so cannot be killed and all their stats (equipped items, enchants etc) are passed to you.

The Air Archon has got a good Active Bonus if I remember so isn't a bad one to equip. Damage Bonus to targets not at full health. AD is always good but you've got to make the decision if you do sell then what are you gonna spend the AD on? Is it going to add more than the Air Archon?

I got the Iron Golem Companion ages ago from a Lockbox and equipped instead of selling and I deeply regret that now as the Active bonus is an extra 1200 HP which in Mod 6 is completely pointless. I'm probably gonna get an Air Archon once I've got the AD.

I thought of selling it cause I am pretty low in HP and armor pen and I am trying to acquire gear that will raise those up but so far am very unhappy with what I am seeing on the market. Even some of the upper tier vendors have HAMSTER for gear. So IF I was to sell my Air Archon it would be for a bit better gear. I am item lvl 2200, HP 63k, Power 12.4k, Crit Strike 3.6k Armor pen 3.2k, Recover 3.6k, Defense 2.1k Life Steal 2.4k. With all these descent stats I still cant go to most dungeons and can barely survive Well of Dragons w/o gobbling health potions like mad.

Would this Air Archon be a good fit for CW build? Are my states decently balanced? Thank in advance

Nevermind the question to active bonus
    Active Bonus:
Increases your damage against targets not at full health by +5.0%. Each additional active Archon increases this bonus by .5%
Applies to you as long as this companion is active.
Expert Striker: This companion is a seasoned adventurer and while summoned has boosted stats, defenses and attack abilities. Unlocks at rank 20.

Master Striker: This companion is a true adventurer and while summoned has strongly boosted stats, defenses and attack abilities. Unlocks at rank 35.

Tempest Blade: A mighty swing of the archon's blade.

I think CW's should focus more on control, and there are plenty of other pets to help with that. But if you want to do more damage, this is a great pet.

I say sell it and invest in one or two control pets.

Cool. Thanks! Another silly question. What are the best stats to focus on control. I am assuming power is more DPS but I am quite squishy. Would be nice to see a spellstorm CW build post mod6. I might need to repec. Some stuff really changes like armor pen and life steal (for the worse it seems).

If you are going to use the air archon in the future keep in mind that buying or equipping the one you have is cheaper than upgrading from rare to epic. Also as for the control bonus it is my understanding that you get diminishing returns on Control Bonus over 2k so stacking to much is a waste.

You definitely seem like you're missing a piece of equipment IL 130+. Your gear is going to get you the HP you need faster than anything else.

So as gear goes then as Control Wiz, (which at times I have to solo), should I concentrate on Lostmauth gear or Valindra? Not sure the 700k for the amulet of valindra's favor alone is worth it. The Lostmauth for the set of 3 is cheaper but will significantly increase my DPS. I have read the control stats on Valindra gear not worth it. Thoughts? Very limited info on this as I searched the forums.

It is now. With the removal of AD from leadership a lot of the AD sinks in the game are getting looked at and companion upgrades are one of the more obvious ones that could be on the chopping block.

Lostmauth set for CW but you need to stack crit for it to be worth it. Valindra set bonus is pathetic and killing stuff is more important than controlling it. Too many mobs are immune/resistant to control to make it worth investing in it.

You should be stacking crit, armor penetration and power. Aim for at ~ 70% crit chance, 60% resistance ignored and as much power as you can get after you hit those. I'd finish Sharandar and Dread Ring before going into WoD. The healing boons/buffs really help make it easier to survive.

Air Archon is good but I'd get an Augment like a Black Dragon Ioun Stone first.

Air archon is a decent bonus, but the reason people equip it is if they are using bonding runes, rather than aug stones for stats. Idea being that the whirling attack equates to a lot of hits, getting your bonding stacks to three.

I'm control focused, but have to say, the bonuses have been imperceptible and I no longer keep active Ctrl based companions. However, locking down mobs has been fine and useful. Except Giants. Their still a bit of pain..
