Importance of armor penetration.

amafia313amafia313 Member Posts: 270 Arc User
Ok guys I know most of you on this forum know the importance of armor pen but there are far too many ppl in the game that do not. We'll never be able to successfully complete dungeons or Tiamat with ppl in our groups with the same armor pen and hit points from last mod. Its just not enough dps. It makes it harder on the rest of the ppl who are ppl who are geared correctly. Try to pass the word along when you see ppl who don't know what they're doing. Most ppl will get upset but at least try. I often inspect ppl in Tiamat and the Well to see ppls stats. Too often I see 2 and 3k armor pen. Just try to spread the word in game. I always get nasty replies in zone chat. Probably from kids.

While the idea is great, note that it's not trivial to get above roughly 45% for classes which don't have AP bonus.
You probably need multiple ArPen artifact and personalized pants/shirt to get these higher.

P.S. Someone is still running Tiamat? Why? Can't you buy all the campaign stuff from AH?

Mainly I just want the word to be passed along. It will help us all out in the long run.

i thought defense reduction from plague fire and RI% were 2 different things. in other words, those with max RI% benefit the most from plague fire.

Melee classes need to reach for 6K arm pen.

Well it's not just about our brains craving for higher numbers. Of course every setup is different as is everyone's knowledge of the game, but the safest and most effective way to deal damage is to break through an enemy's damage resistance with arm pen. In PVE the cap is at 60%. That's just over 6K arm pen and it can also be stacked much higher for people running PVP. Without taking the other buffing/debuffing vairables into consideration, many of which proc and cool down, stacking arm pen never has to. Some people simply don't know and are still under the assumption that dungeons still use a 24% cap and are not generating enough even with their buffs/debuffs even though they think they are, and some people have no idea in general and stack in other areas. I saw someone with 11K power and 1K arm pen. No amount of buffing is going to get them to 60%, let alone penetrating through the higher resistance generated by stacked players in PVP. I agree that many setups do just fine with 3K+ but I highly recommend melee classes to stack.

If you run a melee class in dungeons and feel as though you're hitting the enemy with a wet noodle then I suggest you take a look at your arm pen.

some people are either just ignoring the fact that arpen is very important now or are broken and cannot afford any way of upgrades to improve their stats.

Saw a GWF with like 15k power, 5.5k crit and 1.2k arp. I loled real hard.

Whilst spreading the word is a good idea, most of people affected still wont give a f.... because the just dont care at all or just dont know better.

I know the feeling...I was a little late for the tiamat party when it launched. Luckily I managed to save the 30 linu's before EE launch but did not use it for for 1st of 2 boons...I got the lostmauth jewelry instead.

So I just need 65...may as well be a million.

just assuming here but after the double RP is over, Tiamat raids will get more frequently successful because people pimping up their stuff to legendary, mythic so you will be raiding Tiamat soon TM.

striker classes is way harder to stack up arm pen unless they r willing to go for support role which most of the classes have lots of buffs for it, my tr arm pen was around 4000++ with all the stack of rank 8 dark enchantment as rank 10 is way expensive

decided not that worth it especially in pvp but when it comes to running tiamat, my tr is always the top 1 or 2 with that set up
    Guild: Asylum
    Character:
    7thS1n---Trickster Rouge LV 70(perma-Stun build)
7ThH3AL3R-- Devoted Cleric LV 70 (Divine Oracle Haste/DPS build)
    7ThM4G3-- Control Wizard

I gave up on that. I cut sharandar for the moment and if I feel like it a few dragon runs, but that's kind of like tilting at windmills ATM.. too much too much.

I do think control wizards are very important in the overall set up. they may have been nerfed but they are still very useful as full renegade set up to the rest of the team. Especially if you have more than one. only one can be active at a time but if you get them in rotating off each other I think you can pretty much have a near constant buff going.

Not to bad...the longest is IWD. All dailies take about 1.5 hours. Sharandar 2nd longest, about 1 hour. Dread Ring...super super fast, about 30 minutes.

I miss the WOD HE farms...it's a weekend thing for me.

It's a lot, but I don't mind. On Tuesday night I will do the dailies as usual and in the AM (work later in the day) after the reset...I will do it again and be free in the evening!

Sharandar is actually very fast once you comllected enough of redcap/dark fey currencies. I'm running for these sparks now mostly (a few more days to get these swords) but it's already down to about 10 minutes a day for Sharandar.

Dread Ring is longer as you have to do the lair, so ~ 20 minutes. IWD is at least 20 minutes too since you need a lot of Dwarven Valley currency, plus encounters aren't always easy to get down during quiet hours.

Then you might want to do a daily dungeon e.g. low-level CC, another 10+ minutes. And then a few runs of some skirmish. All in all at least a couple hours a day. But then you also need to level up a second character to 70 so that you can get the Sigils. Ouch.

Is above 50% really needed? Is the only thing sitting on 60% Tiamat? Because I am at 53% right now and that is going to push even higher when I get full PvE gear, should I swap out some darks I have been stacking if I don't intend to fight Tiamat anymore?
  • amafia313amafia313 Member Posts: 270 Arc User
^^^^ to my understanding you need 60% for all bosses and 40% for ads

What do you guys think about the new terror aug vs plague fire as far as rebuffs are concerned?
  • nightranger7477nightranger7477 Member Posts: 211 Arc User
Terror the absolute way to go, PC says bis for tank classes.

I really like how with the current drop in GMOP prices getting ArPen high is getting more and more achievable.
With some luck one can get rank 8 dark for ~35-40K AD.
With DRP and that GMOP price drop I've swiftly went from 40% to 56% DR in just a couple of weeks (and I'm really just an average f2p player).

My rogue sits just over 7k, around 61%. The difference between that and what I had previously is night and day. NIGHT AND DAY.

^^^^ Make sure your RI % is 61. Not your armor penetration contributing 61% to RI. 7k is a little high for on 61% RI. I made that mistake before and it's pretty common. Just trying to help.
  • pbrand45pbrand45 Member Posts: 99 Arc User
Yeah, some boons add to RI. I hit the 60% RI around 6400 arpen

^ This, your class, ability score and many other thing determines your actual RI, be sure to scroll down and check.

Also, most of the time you play, you'll have the campfire bonus (+1 to all ability-scores) so that could be something to keep in mind...
