If an Ioun Stone costs 1200 zen, then at an exchange rate of 250 (supposedly the desired rate according to Cryptic) a cat, which is also an augment, should cost 300,000 AD. So, a 90% price reduction, probably not. But a 62.5% price reduction? Sounds good.
VIP packs get -25% off, but then again coupons give -20% off on Ioun Stones, so that evens out.
Still don't get that exchange rate. Doesn't Cryptic want people to buy Zen? Perhaps it is to make prices in the Zen shop look more reasonable??

Cryptic has some stats somewhere that suggests that the optimal zen to AD tradeoff is such and such. Obviously, they want people to be able to buy zen and feel like they're getting something out of it, but they also want people to play the game and feel like they're getting something out of it.
Of course, their numbers could be off, or could be better geared for the near-launch era of the game's population.

Yeah the ~250 number sounds about right and was almost certainly their near-launch goal but various exploits and ever-growing prices on the AH did a number on that one. Once the AD:Zen price spiked to 500:1 and the backlogs started, they had a rough time getting it to drop even a little bit.

So are Zen store prices based on 250 AD per or 500 AD per? We're talking a factor of 2 here.

Zen store items are priced on cash value, not on AD value. The exchange is exchanging gameplay time for cash and vice versa.

KITTY KITTY PWETTY KITTY WHERE'S MAH KITTY KITTY?!
I'm a caturday survivor, but I don't have a cat, what's up with that? Where's mah kitty kitty kitty?!?
I do think the overall costs of companions on the Wondrous Bazaar should be made in line with AD supply, and to mirror the recent price changes to the Greater Marks of Potencies.
Something to work hard for, but not for months on end. A 75% reduction in price will be in line with the recent GMOP changes.
In a similar manner, the Devs should also look into the costs of upgrading companions:
From a green to blue it is currently 500kAD. To match GMOP changes, this should be reduced to 125kAD
From a blue to purple it is currently 750kAD. " should be reduced to 187.5kAD
From a purple to orange it is currently 1mil AD. " should be reduced to 250k AD.

Well, as I stated, the price of companions in terms of AD should be in line with the price in terms of AD for companions purchasable via zen, with a certain margin that allows them to be a "good buy" in some circumstances, and a "bad buy" in other circumstances (when zen is super low).

I mentioned this in another thread, the pet upgrade prices are insane now post AD nerf.

The price of Cats and the price of the Ioun Stone of Allure aren't linked as you think. Both are separate and one doesn't affect the other. Just because you feel like buying, you can't ask for re-pricing. Do you feel Sapphires are a good deal?! NO! That's the price of it, and that's it.
PS. You see the price at 600,000 AD probably cause you have bought VIP (which gives upto 25% discount). The actual price is 800,000 AD

Ummm, okay, but the argument is that the price is irrationally high, hence why it is being requested/recommended that it be changed? In this case, I'm not even making a "people are too poor!" argument; rather, I'm suggesting that a similar resource is cheaper (by much more than I originally thought, because I totally forgot I had VIP at rank 12), ergo it would make sense for this resource to be cheaper as well.
Now, obviously, there's some vanity priviledge to having a cat over a stone. It's cute after all. But aside from that, there's not much functional advantage of the cat. For an item to exist, it should serve some functional purpose. If cats and Ioun Stones are roughly even in terms of price, we don't run into a problem; people will purchase whichever is most fitting for htem based on the current relative prices (eg, the stone floats in value in terms of AD, so sometimes it's better to buy a cat, sometimes its not). However, in the current pricing system, it is always better to purchase the stone than it is to purchase the cat, because regardless of zen price, the stone will cost less than the cat does, but comes with a Lesser Bonding Runestone.
In short, there may as well not be a cat in the Wondrous Bazaar at all. Obviously, you can just leave it in and there's largely no harm to the game; people buy Ioun Stones and that's just how it is. Cryptic manages the game that way in a lot of areas, and truth be told, it's not a very big deal.
But these are cats we're talking about! Cats! You don't treat cats like that! They're our feline friends! They're the perfect wizard's companion (aside from Owls, obviously).

would like to see more different animals (pets) like this.
I'd love to have a Raven.
