3rd party macro word software to emote, say favorite sayings, etc (my weak hands)

danaswansondanaswanson Member Posts: 87 Arc User
If someone took this post down because of the M word subject I just wanted to explain my issue a little more and what would help me with my weak hands resulting in pain, stiffness, etc. I was noticing some issues with the forum web site when I was posting this so maybe that's why it did not get posted.

I don't want to macro the actual game play or anything like that. I would just like to macro some screens that cause my hands to get stiff, weak, etc...

One example would be opening your crafting screen, clicking Collect Result and then clicking Take Rewards, then doing the next box and so on. Things like this can cause me problems with my hands.

Here's my original post---->

Hi Fellow Adventurers,

I know mentioning 3rd party macro software can be a sensitive subject. I read how Neverwinter used to have a macro system built into the game but people abused it and it was removed. I can't see how this game can be any fun automating it with macro software like people do.

I would like to be able to macro things like emotes, favorite sayings, etc...

More importantly I would love to automate some repetitive tasks that cause me aches and pain in my hands. I have a subcategory of muscular dystrophy which has weakened my hands a great deal and certain repetitive mouse movements/clicking will cause aches, pains and stiffness and it gets worse the more I play.

I was curious if people have done this with good results for good not evil.

Thanks!

You can make an alias file and short-hand your emotes. I use an alias file for several things because like you, I have terrible hands and typo a lot.

However, third party programs will only get you banned. You'll need to use the ingame macro and alias system. Let me see if I can find the details on how to do this.

Well, I cannot find the guide I was looking for so I'll try and explain.

Navigate to your Neverwinter\Live\localdata game directory. You should see a file called Gameprefs.Pref there.

Right click the background of the folder and create a new Text (.txt) document and name it CommandAliases.txt so you then will have two files in that folder. Now, using notepad, open CommandAliases.txt file.

Each line you enter will be a new alias and must be prefixed with "alias" so for example, here is a excerpt from part of my file:

    alias legit "nw_legit_community"
    alias nlc "nw_legit_community"
    alias bow "em bow"
    alias bowf "em bow_formal"
    alias cheer "em cheer"
    alias salute "em salute"
    alias admire "em admire"
    alias ssui "screenshot_ui_jpg"

So, what this means is that when I type /legit and hit spacebar, my default channel switches to "nw_legit_community" and when I type /bow and hit enter, my character does the /em bow emote.

If you need help on what to enter there to do what you want, just ask.

Gaming keyboards can also be programmed to type a number of keystrokes with a single press. So for example you could map the G1 button to type out "em salute". They cannot be programmed for more complex tasks like collecting professions, and will not get you banned.

Because of my hands I also have issues typing but only with very ergonomic keyboards. Remember the Microsoft Natural Keyboard? That wasn't for me :) For the last 20 years or so I've been using the same basic type of Compaq/HP keyboard. But it's not to say I can't adapt to certain more ergonomic programmable keyboards.

The Razer keyboards look very nice. I can always buy one locally and try it up to 30 days and hopefully get used to it.

    Thanks for the tip!

I did a google search on macro keyboards. I saw this product I've never known about. You mount it to the top of your keyboard and it adds a row of macro keys. Perfect for me if I can't find a macro keyboard that I can type on. No idea what the reviews say yet...
