Hello Neverwinter!

dbgamer23dbgamer23 Member Posts: 5 Arc User
First of all, I'd like to say hello all - I'm brand spankin' new to Neverwinter, so please be kind. EQ has gotten on my last nerve, so I'm thinking about making a move to a new game - and Neverwinter is looking pretty cool.

I have a few questions about the game that I'm hoping some of the more seasoned veterans can answer so I don't go down the wrong path too far before I learn more.

I'm interested in the rogue, GWF, and guardian fighter, as those are typically the type of classes I play - usually DPS, but I just love the look of a plate class with a sword and board.

1. Is there a clear leader in DPS class in PVE and PVP?

I know that the first and best argument here is skill over class, but in some games there are classes who are currently and undeniably ahead in the DPS department. I'm not intending to turn this into a d-measuring contest, but if there are current winners, which class is it?

2. Can guardian fighters dole out decent damage?

From what I've read, it seems like guardians are tanks, which makes sense, but given my typical preference, am I going to be able to dish out as much as I take if I choose this class?

3. Starting stats - how important are they, and is there a general rule people use when rolling the dice for their starting stats per class? if so, what are they?

4. What is the best game info resource for Neverwinter? is there a couple of websites that I can read up on classes, gear, end-game, pvp etc.?

5. Do starting races matter a great deal in end-game for class choice?

That's all for now - thanks again.

    GWF across the board

They can in PvP, based on the build, but they are usually Tanks. OP tends to be the choice for tanks now though. If you are a Tank built... you dish out very little damage. Just enough to keep threat on you.

From what I've read, it seems like guardians are tanks, which makes sense, but given my typical preference, am I going to be able to dish out as much as I take if I choose this class?

How do you want to play?

    Neverwinter Wiki and here.

    5. Do starting races matter a great deal in end-game for class choice?

Not really... everyone gets One-Shot at this point. So there is no clear cut "better choice". You picked an odd time to join... the game is a bit broken ATM.

That's all for now - thanks again.

    1. Currently GWF destroyer spec dragonborn or human leads most charts, with SW dragonborn or human will be second , then CWs This is of course if all gear is equal and they have lostmouth set ect.. Gear will make the biggest difference, a 4k monster will of course be way ahead of a 2k person. But again race differences are fairly small.. a few percentage points increases.
    2. Gfs or guardian fights were recently given much more dps.. but that still makes them poor cousins to the dps classes.
    3. Starting stats will make a difference in a 2-3% margin difference.. you can also make up some stats now with different belts, its all sort of what you build around and what class you are playing. Recharge speed, crit chances are not be ignored.
    4. This game changes fairly fast, alot of guides are not updated for mod 6, which totally channged the game stat curves, so they are totally useless, go do the desired class and read one of the updates guides in the forums, its the best place. (we are getting another update to the game on Aug 11 for strongholds.. so hold onto your seatbelt.
    5. They will again give you a few percentage points increase, humans will allow you to pick more heroic feats, which are good for some classes, dragonborn allows for +2 to any 2 stats, giving them a advantage plus a 3% critical chance and power (which isnt all that much anymore for power.. its actual about a 1-2% increase of total dps. Some people like to pick halfings still for PVP advantage in deflect.. OVERALL.. the percentages of advantages, is fairly small.. dragonborn is also expensive, as its part of a $75.00 pack.

WERE you still playing original EQ? ... It was a great game.. ALONG time ago, I cant imagine still playing it.

    Another couple quick questions:

How do you preview an item? ie gear/weapons

Also, are there epic/legendary/etc. end-game quest/crafted weapons in Neverwinter?

Guardian fighter is the minimal dps of that lot.

Not entirely true if you look at the PvP side - first there's less to no OSK there (nice hint at the ratio between player and mob damage... :^/), and second a CC-resistance race trait is somewhat relevant and very hepful there (Elves w/o Drow, Halflings, less relevant Dwarves). But race and stat roll can be retrospectively modified buy purchasing a race-reroll--token. Those are 1500 ZEN, though.

I'd recommend you to go for TR if you're PvP focused, GWF if you're DPS focused, and GF or Prot Paladin is best if you are into getting fast-tracked to Dungeon runs...

Once you have decided, best peruse the corresponding class forum for guides and more specific counsel. Also, you get 2 slots for free...

Not able to create a topic yet and was wondering if anyone could answer a question. To my understanding once Tiamat is gone (X1 player here) she can no longer be farmed, is that correct? If that is the case does that mean that being able to get the artifact that Tiamat drops will no longer be able to be obtained?

*takes off her moderator hat and sets it aside for a moment*. Tiamat is a permanent feature, not a temporary event. She will always be available to be farmed.

*puts moderator hat back on* Please at least try to find a topic on this in the General discussion (Xbox) subforum. Thank you.

Stats? Just mouseover, and you'll get them displayed.

Looks. No simple one, but you can preview gear you already have in your backpack:
    - Right-click the currently worn slot the item would go into in your char sheet (e.g your helmet if you want to see what a helmet looks like) - or use the button next to that slot.
    - choose "Change Appearance"
    - in the popup window, select that item from your backpack in the lower RIGHT hand corner's pulldown menue.
    - The character model - zoomable - now displays the new item's look. The lighting is crappy, and you only have that one standing upright stance, but you can get an impression...
    - choose "Cancel".

Items in stores or on the AH cannot be previewed. For some stuff there's screenshots floating around in the forum (class forums are a good place to look) or on the wiki. Otherwise - no cookies.

I warn you that the task ahead of you is Daunting and not rewarding at all. You will have a great time with the story and cutting enemies down until you hit 60. Then you will hit the mega xp wall when 1 level before is now only one bubble. After struggling to reach the max level at 70 you will be introduced to the meat of the game.

The Boon grind, 12 daily quests every day to obtain the power to just make the game bearable. Next you will be like well I need to upgrade my gear because everything is still crushing me like a cockroach. So you think well I gotta upgrade these Elemental weapons (which will be replaced in less than a month). As you struggle to raise your item level higher and higher you will finally realize you are still underpowered for the content in dungeons.
