layer of the mad dragon (epic)

I was just in a group trying to defeat the mad dragon and I must say it was ether bugged or just made way to hard. Every one was above the required gs (7k-9k) and many left/joined so we had every class try to defeat the boss....but the only problem was that the mobs would spawn way to often to where we were being easily killed with no time to attack the dragon. Instead of a normal boss where the mobs would spawn after the bosses health gets to a certain point they literally spawned faster then we could kill them. Our group spent over a hour trying to do this and we couldn't get the boss to half health at all......has anyone had this problem before or is the dungeon actually that hard?

    It's like that by design. The 6800 is the bare minimum. You wouldn't be expected to clear it at that GS unless every person on the team had a good knowledge of their build and worked very well as a team. That being said if you were all closer to the 9k GS then you just pulled some pretty bad players or bad team diversity.

    Well we had a many players join so I don't think it was our diversity.... I did notice that the monsters did do more damage then I do which seems a little unfair....and don't say " then u are the problem" because they were hitting me at 3k damage a hit. And iv seen the same problem with the wolf den too, where even the strongest players get rushed and killed in just a couple seconds

    Just a particularly tricky boss. The key for Mad Dragon is to have a good tank or Control Wizard dealing with adds while everyone else is on the boss. Good luck next time!

    By the way it's 'Lair of the Mad Dragon' not 'Layer...'.

    The dungeon is just hard. My first few days trying to clear Mad Dragon was nerve wracking but after about 2 or 3 days of attempts my team got used to the mechanics and devised some strategies and now he's a joke granted we were only about 7k tops on GS at the time but still it's hard even with a higher gs if you don't have some type of team play or strategy. There are a lot of dungeons that are like that in any MMO and it's just one of those things where practice and persistence is key.

    Mad dragon is a rough one but very much doable. We used to avoid that one with a passion on the PC version because completely geared out players would have a really hard time particularly with PUGs with only T1 rewards. Generally it was more beneficial to do a T2 which was less difficult than Mad Dragon.

    6800 is the absolute bare minimum. Don't expect to beat it with that score although it is possible with a great group doing everything perfectly.

    I understand that it should be challenging, but, if it is difficult to the point of you have to have a "great group doing everything perfectly", then it is TOO difficult. If you seriously expect players to spend HOURS on one dungeon, when they could easily complete 3-4 other dungeons in that time, then I want some of what. you're smoking...
    The question is legit. How many people actually dungeon with the same team regularly? I know I don't, because I can't guarantee that I can be on at the same time as one other person, much less 4 others. I'd be willing to bet that is a common thing, otherwise they wouldn't have the groupfinder mechanic for the queue. So, there goes your teamwork argument. And it DOES seem that it has been turned up a notch. I've been through once already getting my epic armor set and had no real issues, even with non-talkative strangers with a 7k GS. It maybe took two tries to get through. Now, you can have 5 players with 9-10k GS, and get demolished by just the adds.
    Honestly, how hard would it be for the developers to dial the number/spawn rate of the adds back by 25%? It would still be challenging, but would be more inline with what new level 60 players going for a T1 item should be ready for. Either that, or change it to a T2 epic item quest with a GS of 9800.

    As already said, Lair of Mad Drag boss fight is insanely difficult if you're around the min GS requirement.

    When my buddies and I started out running t1s to gear our mains we spent hours on that boss, it didn't help that we were all dps classes, team composition can be a big factor in that fight. We raged, complained and quit a number of times! And honestly felt that dungeon should be a t2 not t1...

    When we went back in there a month later with our alts, around the same GS, we smashed it. We understood the game better, class mechanics etc. and were just better players at that point. So there could well be an argument that these super hard encounters, while frustrating, do have benefit in the long run (assuming you haven't thrown your xbox out of the window by then :D )

    However, with the insane drop rate of t1 epic set pieces from the Heralds in WoD, you can now buy your full t1 set from the auction house for less than your daily refinement limit of rough astral. So you need never set foot in that dungeon... Soon to be the same for the t2 sets as well, as they are common drop from Tiamat.

    It's the hardest T1 dungeon in the game If you ask me. That being said, you simply need to control the ads to beat him. If you don't have the DPS or tanking ability to kite them throughout the fight, you won't succeed. 8 or 9k GS is my recommendation for this dungeon.
