Hi Yall--
I am new to the game and want to become better at playing my GWF. I have been trying very hard and reading up on all the MOD 5 builds and information I can get my hands on but I don't seem to be doing great on the dungeon scoreboards-- I'm never last but rarely in the top two either.
The following is my character's stats:
Power: 4006
Crit 1784
Arm Pen 1677
Recov 1057
Def 1645
Def 622
Reg 225
LifeSteal 179
and for my Character's feats/powers (swordmaster/destroyer) I went with this guide:
http://www.neverwinterstore.com/news/166--neverwinter-great-weapon-fighter-pve-dps-guide-in-swordmaster-path
For my at-wills I use: Weapon Master's Strike/Sure Strike
Encounters: Indomitable Battle Strike, Not so Fast and Flourish
Daily: Crescendo and Slam
Class: Weapon Master and Destroyer
Basically my rotation is:
Lead with WMS, then use IBS, NsF, then Flourish---with Sure strike as a filler, unless there are multiple targets in range to buff destroyer then I will WMS for filler
I use Determination on Cool-down and try to save IBS for when it wears off---
Daily on CD--Crescendo for ST and Bosses, and Slam for AOE on some trash pulls
I am using an active companion that gives +165 Armor Pen and +165 Recovery and has two Rank 7 Bonding Stones and an Eldirch.
Any advice or suggestions on build changes or how I could improve what I'm doing to be better are very welcome!
Thanks!

Next..get your crit upto about 3.5 to 4K
Arm pen needs to be at 24&. Treat every point of CON over 10 as 1% then get arm pen up by the difference
EG. I have 15 CON..so thats already 5%....so i need 1900 to get to 24%
Recovery needs to be around 2.5k
Then Stack as much power as you can.
Weapons...Ancient Castle Champions Greatsword and Sword knot (2 set bonus)
Weapon Enchantment...Vorpal (for extra Crit damage)
Also you need to go full top line of destroyer tree with deep gash included, and then get the 1st two top line of sentinel.
Companion wise...get an ioun stone of allure...this is an augment companion..all the stats from runestones and gear that are on it go DIRECTLY to you...so stack it with whatever you need.
Mine gives me 4.5k power amongst other stats
In mod 5 on the pc i was 24k gs...12k power plus the above mentioned stats, and i rarely came outside the top spot.
I've had a lot of updates recently, now my stats sit at:
Power: 6288
Crit 4058
Arm Pen 2407 (23.1%)
Recov 1376
Def 1913
LifeSteal 260
I have the AoW 4-set and the vorpal weapon enchant (25%). I dont have a stone companion, but I do have a cat and a few other companions with some nice bonuses.
This all being said, again I'm rarely ever on top (unless I end up solo dpsing the last boss of instances). I do have a question, I switch to the popular high crit build and got my aritifact weapon, but I am unsure how WMS feats/power works with resistance? Could i drop some arm pen?>
At what point in GS do you think that GWF will start passing other classes by?
Honestly, your stats look better than mine (I'm about 14500 total GS, you must be higher with those stats) and I feel I do just fine for my roll. I've taken on the role of single target DPS - I find the biggest target and try and keep their aggro while smashing them, or flank them if GF present.
I run the same powers as you, except Spinning Strike instead of Slam (which I've been meaning to change out now that I think about it, lol) and Daring Shout instead of Not so Fast. As sjk mentioned, DS combined with the intimidation feat in the Sentinel Tree is a boatload of extra damage to marked targets for yourself. Uptime on that ability should be 100% if you stay on top of your rotations (or less if you wipe targets before refresh is done).
It could be that I'm playing with lesser geared teammates than you (I'm top GS on my guild, and rarely end up playing with higher GS), but it's very rare I'm not tops in Paingiver. I usually don't go down, and when I do it's from getting one-shotted (risks of the class maybe, trying to mitigate through raising deflection). I can hold lots of aggro and survive through DS and Unstoppable boosting my Damage Reduction.
Best part - practically none of these things rely on my skill, but rather are built into the class and anyone can do it!
The biggest thing with GWF I've found is getting geared up. I went through a nasty spell shortly after hitting 60 where I felt this class was useless and could never compete or fill a viable roll. After I started getting geared and respecced a little things changed. After getting gear (this is for others who may need to know, seems like you have a handle on this specifically), learn rotations as best you can and make sure you're building Destroyer and Weapon Master stacks before popping Encounters and Dailies. Personally I've been spending time learning to recognize other class' buff symbols and what they mean so I can time some really nice damage. True story, I can hit 100k damage using Sure Strike (last hit of combo after two rotations, eight hits in total of SS, it actually adds up to way more based on earlier damage done) based on rotations and stacks built before hand all by myself - more if receiving party buffs.
This class can be a beast
