Is coal ward needed to upgrade enchants?

I know you need one to make a weapon/armor enchant but do I need one to upgrade? I have a lesser lofedrinker for my warlock and I wanna upgrade it but I'm not sure if I will need a coal ward or just preservation, is the chance still 1%? Thanks.

I believe you do need a Coal Ward to upgrade, but I'm not positive and I can't check at the moment. Either way you need a duplicate of the enchant you're upgrading, so you either have to buy one or use a Coal Ward to upgrade it.

yes, the upgrade from lesser is still 1%, as is the upgrade to greater, and perfect. Coal needed for all.

In some cases it's faster to just buy the completed enchant.

Had a lesser vorpal already and wanted another to eventually get the vorpal. I had a coal ward but tried about 10 pres wards and got the 2nd lesser vorpal. Then I got to use my coal ward to get the vorpal! So yes, pres wards do work even at 1% lol.

I mean... you could use a Preservation Ward, if you're a HAMSTER. :)
Having only a 1% chance would burn through quite a bit of PWs before hitting.
