Find the start point. Press jump down. Fly to next island. Repeat. Easy.
Only (little) difficulty is to find the start point (for example on one of the towers) because the quest markers shows the end point of the journey. One of the very very few interessting quests^^
for most jumps i first press jump up and then go forward, reduces chance of falling down comparing to forward and jump at the same time, though one or 2 jumps require max distance
i just hold my space bar down, when i start to fall i go forwards, and usually i land on the platform. Once you get used to it, you look for these quests. Only annoying thing is finding the start zone in the last area, took me a bit to figure it out.
you have to make sure your holding the "jump" button, you release it you won't reach the islands.
I know some of you have already done a great job explaining how to complete this quest in writing but in case it helps anyone then I have put together a quick video guide for how to do the Avia Landing Tome of Air quest.
Lust leaving out any information about what you're supposed to do in a quest is NOT the way, nor does it make it interesting, it makes it a pain in the a s s
